Have you seen an animated film in the last 15 years or so? They've been steering away from people you've never heard of and have usually been casting celebrities. That said, I think it could make a good animated film.
I would hardly call Idina Menzel, Satino Fontana, Anika Noni Rose, and Josh Gad huge celebrities. I think that it being animated and it's name will be a big enough draw itself.

I don't post dream casting all the time you know....

A quick look at the director will tell you that if this actually happens, it will not be anmiated.
This is not going to be animated. But I think it might be a game changer.
My Dream Cast:
Elphaba - Elizabeth Gillies, Cynthia Erivo, Jessie J, or maybe even Caroline Bowman
Glinda - Ariana Grande, Anna Kendrick, Lucy Hale
Madame Morrible - Bette Midler, Meryl Streep
Fiyero - Aaron Tveit, Josh Hutcherson, Leslie Odom Jr
Nessarose - Kimiko Glenn, Allison Williams

The casting people are suggestion for the most part are way to old. like Aaron Tviet played Fiyero 9 years ago. Even lea Michelle is too old for the role. I think they'll cast people in their mid twenties.
Now you do realize in the show there is a time jump after "Defying Gravity" right?

The brazilian production of Wicked also confirmed this.
It has been in development hell for many years for they to confirm this if it was not a sure thing.
Also, by then they can count on a 16 year Broadway run, 13 year West End run, and conquering the biggest musical markets outside these two: Brazil and Asia as a whole.
They have nothing to loose anymore. It is happening.
Well the way the film industry is going we can make people look younger or older with the right makeup.

I'm only too worried about Defying Gravity: you can make a scene like that properly (it is possible on film? time will tell) and expect the audience just to move on with the story without a moment to catch their breath.
They could fade out and then have text on the screen saying something like "Six Years Later" and then reveal the next scene

I hope it's not animated! I'm not really much of a fan of modern day animation, some animated films look great while others don't, and I have a feeling this would just end up looking like a reskinned Frozen(sorry to all Frozen lovers!). It would just be too much of a hit-or-miss, and with the direction I'm hoping the film goes in, target audiences would be pg/pg-13 or up.
It'd be neat if the film combined the musical with the darker elements of the novel, maybe CGI where appropriate if they can make it to look believable and not over do it....I can already envision haunting cover songs (think: Lana Del Rey for Maleficent) and beautiful colors for trailers. Ahh I really hope this film actually happens, I'm already excited.

Depending on how Beauty and the Beast goes, I could actually see Emma Watson being a contender for Glinda considering she still reads early 20s on camera.
Saoirse Ronan as Elphaba.

I've thought that for quite a while.

Madonna as Morrible- I'm only partially joking
Thank God this is a Broadway board. So many people on here should never, ever go into film.
