This statement is truly truly horrendous.
1. "the responses I received to what I posted have made me also focus specifically on how my own behavior towards fellow cast members was perceived by them." -- by using the word perceived here she's rhetorically avoiding owning her actions by placing the hurt on the receiver not the action

2. "While I don’t remember ever making this specific statement and I have never judged others by their background or color of their skin, that’s not really the point," -- First of all there's no need to deny the original statement, that's just trying to excuse herself from this specific harm. Secondly, if that's not the point then why bring it up?

3. "Whether it was my privileged position and perspective that caused me to be perceived as insensitive or inappropriate at times or whether it was just my immaturity and me just being unnecessarily difficult, I apologize for my behavior and for any pain which I have caused." -- Here she's trying to blame things other than herself for her actions (privilege, perspective, youth etc) and again uses the word "perceived" to minimize the actions themselves

4. "I listened to these criticisms and I am learning and while I am very sorry, I will be better in the future from this experience." -- the use of "while" here is a way for her to not own her sorrow in a meaningful way. It's just something for her to get through on her way to the better future. Cutting that one word would make the apology much more meaningful

It is one of the better "apologies" I've seen.  And I don't doubt SHE doesn't remember the specifics - perpetrators seldom do as they don't give it any thought.  But several time she makes a comment like this one "....that caused me to be perceived as insensitive or inappropriate at times".  STILL puts the blame on those receiving her behavior.

I HOPE what she stated is true. We'll see.

It was nice of Ryan Murphy to write that for her.

How hard is it to write a simple apology? All you need is: "To the people I've hurt, I'm sorry and I hope to earn your forgiveness in the future. To those who are disappointed in my past behavior, I join you in that disappointment. I am working to become a better person, and I appreciate those who hold me accountable."

Her behavior was well known in the Broadway community long before she had any success in other parts of the industry. As others have pointed out, there are stories going back to when she was a literal child, and many of them are true. (Can confirm the SPRING AWAKENING understudy story totally happened.) It didn't stop her from getting jobs or moving into film and television.

LOL! I noticed the same thing. There are at least two prominent Glee cast members from the first season that person failed to mention. "

Season 1 Cast

I did not mention Amber Riley by name but I kind of figured you knew she was included in the women of color that I said in the opening sentence "bashed" Lea Michele in her tweet. Did you really want me to mention Mark Salling (Puck) who was arrested for child pornography and sadly committed suicide? So the others I missed (Jayma Mays, Jennna Ushkowitz, Jessalyn Gilsig), did they ever publicly say they had issues with Lea Michele? Once again, I am not saying she was a saint. I just tried to provide balance showing there are people that can't stand her and there are some who are friendly with her and have worked with outside of Glee.

Like the comedians who call themselves "equal-opportunity offenders," in a way. But if you're causing that much harm and destruction to the people around you, does it really matter whether or not yourmotivations are race-related?"

It's up for the people of color she harasses to decide. If it feels racially motivated to them, then that's all that matters. White people cannot continue to be the arbiters of what is racism. There have been (and will continue to be) plenty of white people also bullied by Lea Michele but things like her saying she'd **** in the wig of her black costar and a whole article about her devastation over not getting Maria in "West Side Story" - "I even learned Spanish for this!" - indicate a racial insensitivity.

Have been eagerly awaiting her comeuppance for years.

I hate defending her in any way but I will say that I don’t believe she’s a racist. If she’s anything she’s the textbook definition of “classist”.

Calling you out for making digs at actors for gaining weight during their industry shutdown and for offering your opinion on how they are mismanaging their money and offering your predictions on their future post-performing careers isn’t mean. Take responsibility for your own behavior.

I was referring to Jenna and Naya (who I think was in the first season? I haven't watched since it first aired). Amber has indirectly expressed her support of Samantha Ware's tweet in the linked thread. Naya has, of course, expressed her issues with Lea in the past. Jenna had Lea on her podcast and seems to be on speaking terms with her. However., my point was that everyone you listed was white. That's a bit of a glaring oversight in light of a thread in which her treatment of black actors specifically is under scrutiny. Samantha Ware, Alex Newell, and Amber Riley were among those in that Twitter thread that people have pointed out. HelloFresh specifically listed racism as a reason for terminating their relationship with her.

That said, many others who aren't people of color, have shared bad experiences working with her. At the very least, she has a well-corroborated history of workplace bullying and treating people badly.

I hope she means her apology, people can change organically or being forced to do so (this). I don't believe in cancel culture, it's extremely dangerous, so I hope she can learn from this and not treat others like garbage. Some of the stories of her on that set were truly horrendous. Her career hasn't really been a thing for years now, most likely this being at least a minor reason. Who wants to work with a monster diva? I hope she changes, if not, her career is probably completely over. Which is a shame because I find her to be extremely talented. I'm glad she was called out though, it was time.

Yeah, I don't think she's racist. But her career being over because people think she's racist is karma and I'm not mad at it.

People like Lea have never experienced consequences. It's long overdue.

For what it’s worth, Gerard Canonico, her castmate on Spring Awakening, has been vocal about his support of this takedown of Michelle on public Facebook posts. “Sucks to suck.”

A previous poster asked, "How hard is it to write a simple apology?" Well, I think writing a public apology for being a sh***y person is probably pretty hard.

By no means defending her -- her behavior described by her colleagues is abhorrent -- but I suggest giving her the chance to show change in behavior. I don't know what is gained by further criticizing her apology and acting like she is irredeemable.

Yes, the apology has A LOT of qualifiers and I have no idea who actually wrote it, but she did own some of it (e.g., "...I clearly acted in ways which hurt other people." ). She didn't engage in criminal activities, she was just being a terrible person.

She needed to be called out and now she is under a professional and public magnifying glass of scrutiny now. If she fails to uphold her part of the bargain, people will very likely believe future criticism about her.

Time will tell if she exhibits positive behavior and treat all consistently going forward, even if she is never authentic about it. She's also now incentivized by avoiding more consequences leading to direct loss of income (e.g. Hello Fresh). Or maybe her career IS ruined and we won't have to hear about her again.

This is just my two cents on the apology. I'm not a fan, and still interested in hearing about past transgressions should they be shared by those who were transgressed upon. And any criticism on her future actions. Just as a bystander welcoming distractions (pass the popcorn).

I don't understand the people here who seem to need EVERY Glee cast member to issue a statement about her mean actions before they'll believe it.

You can watch MANY interviews including the recent Stars in the House reunion where her name is tangentially brought up and all their faces drop. Chris Colfer talked about how rewarding it was to get to sing "Defying Gravity" on the show and his face when he says "sang it with Lea" tells 20 stories on its own.

And the number of people who are coming to her defense, either publicly or on social media, speaks louder than anything else.

Why anyone is apologizing for this privileged rich white celebrity's well-documented abusive, nasty behavior toward anyone she deems below her is beyond me.

Y'all need to check your value system. She doesn't need your defense. She doesn't deserve it.
