Oh no! This is such sad news!
EVen sadder is that I just saw it tonight (AND LOVED IT!) but waiting at the stage door, we were told that they were having a meeting inside. I now realize what that meeting was for. re: FINIAN'S RAINBOW to Close January 17 The cast must have forced a happy face on when they left the theater, because they seemed absolutely fine.

This is really getting majorly depressing. First, Ragtime, now Finian's! God, what is there on Broadway anymore beyond celebrity casting, Hair, and next to normal?!

I'm sure they've been expecting the news.

I seriously doubt they have any money available for a move.

And I'm sure Carnage will close as scheduled in February.

"Too bad that you're the only one who thought that... "

Nonsense.

And incidentally, there's a far larger world of opinions out there than those expressed on Broadway World. (As if there were even 100% unanimity- minus myself- on this board.)

They are? Huh, I thought they were only going until February. I can't imagine the next few months will be terribly kind to them.

I don't think the material is at fault here. Anything without marquee names these days is in trouble. From Shakespeare to Sondheim.

Friends of mine refused to go with this rationalization: "It's just a concert version moved into a Broadway house and charging twice the price." It's hard to fight that. In these times, people want bang for their buck (as, euch, Wicked continues to prove.)

Well, this was the kick in the pants I needed to finally get tickets for this. Got a TDF ticket for January 7.

Except it's not... they turned it into a full scale production during the transfer. It's not a concert version anymore at all.

Too bad. I saw the show only this Sunday, went in with no expectations whatsoever and thought it was terrific. Not a mind-blowing smash, mind you, but a charming, thoughtful production that really snuck up on me. Smartly staged and exceptionally sung. Sad to see it go, but at least we'll get a recording out of it.

Will Cheyenne Jackson be a regular on 30 ROCK now?
I don't think anyone thought this would be a hit, good for the producers for letting people see this show after the Encores! production.

"Some people can thrive and bloom living life in a living room, that's perfect for some people of one hundred and five. But I at least gotta try, when I think of all the sights that I gotta see, all the places I gotta play, all the things that I gotta be at"

I think your friends were right in their assessment. I thought it worked better at Encores. There the expectations are lower regarding production values, whereas on Broadway, the lack thereof really sticks out like a sore thumb.

Both Hair & Spring Awakening got great reviews .Spring should have run longer & Hair is losing steam much to early. This is an ominous trend IMO.
