Reviews from The Hollywood Reporter and Variety are both favorable.

It'll be a monster hit.

What's the prototype for this thing? It seems very Adrian Lyne to me. Somewhere between "Unfaithful," minus Diane Lane, and late-night 1990s cable porn, not that I've ever seen such lurid shenanigans.

I assume they are going for an Adrian Lyne (9 1/2 Weeks especially) vibe as well which is sorta... well soft core cable but done at a higher quality. But who knows--so far they seem to just want readers of the book to see it and if the apparently record breaking advance ticket sales are an indication, they'vemanaged that. (I still don't understand people buying tickets for a movie a week or more in advance. But I also don't understand people wanting to see this, so...)

I find the origins of the book absolutely fascinating, so much so that I can't begrudge it's phenomenal success. I am simply in awe of it. Never read it, and don't have any immediate plans to see the movie, but I get more and more curious. And I've had a thing for Jamie Dornan since his Once Upon a Time days.

Apparently from what I have read, think it may have been the BBFC website. The film contains only 11 minutes of sex scenes in a 2 hour movie!!! In the UK anyway.

I am not interested in seeing the movie but Jamie Dornan is the most beautiful man alive. At the very least, I could look at him all day!!!!

I second HorseTears, The Fall is well worth checking out.

I heard 20 minutes. And that EVERY sex scene is accompanied by a different, annoyingly used female sung pop song.

I hope to GOD they made the dialogue better than was on the written page. I read half of the first chapter and just deleted the whole thing.

I saw the film tonight. The good news is that is IS much better than the book. The bad news is that given the material, it still can't overcome that nothing of note happens.

Dakota Johnson was excellent though. She is a real find, and works wonders with the role. I love that she played up the humor and ridiculousness of the whole thing. If this film had been played straight it would be deadly.

Jamie Dornan...was fine. The ladies I went with were not quite fans. I thought he probably took the role too seriously.

Marcia Gay Harden showed up for 10 minutes of shooting and livened up the proceedings.

Overall, it is very slow, and feels long, and more importantly feels very tame for something that people think is so scandalous. I had fun seeing it with friends (and drinking wine beforehand!) but I don't think I'd ever want to see it again.

That said the most exciting thing about the film was the Aloha trailer that played before it! A new Cameron Crowe film with Emma Stone?!! YES please!!

I had absolutely no interest in this until I learned the other day that Marcia Gay Harden was in it for a couple of minutes, so I guess I have to see this damn thing now.

My favorite review so far:

The consensus amongst my friends who saw it last night was that, although it is many things, "hot" is not one of them.

Neil Rosen of Channel 1 gives it 1 out of 4 apples saying the only one he feels sorry for is the audience. He also says the sex scenes have really been toned down & it is now like a harlequin romance novel.

Sandy Kenyon of Channel 7 not a fan of it either. He says the stars have no chemistry. Calls the movie warmed "vanilla cream". Says nothing compelling in the movie .

Supposedly there may be 2 more sequels to follow. Loved the diaper comment.

Oh GOD...all day long at work, the girls have been talking about it. In several different languages. I've verbally rolled my eyes (huffed and puffed, I guess?) all day long, and finally one of them turned to me and said, 'What...you can't take kinky stuff?'

And I was all, 'Bitch, please.'

Like these women have any idea what kink is! If they knew what I did last weekend...

Dammit. I will see just about anything she is in. I'll wait until I can watch online.

Just watch all her SVU appearances as Special Agent Dana. It will satisfy that itch.

There is NO way I'll see this film this weekend, when all of the gaggles of giggling girlfriends attend.

I'll see the movie (because it's going to be too ridiculous not to), but not now.

Rosen also said this would become a cult bad movie like Showgirls

This alone is reason to see it - on Netflix

I saw the film tonight and I enjoyed it. It's a great popcorn movie. For me it didn't veer into camp because Dakota Johnson is very convincing. A lot of reviewers have been hard on her. I think she's fantastic in the film. It's escapist fun. It's not very kinky but I did find it sexy. I think the soundtrack is incredible and the songs chosen for the sex scenes are killer. It's soapy and complicated in interesting ways. Dornan is good too but I hope he stays on for the sequels-apparently he's not super excited about being attached to this franchise.

Like a lady said on her way out, "it reminds me of Twilight, with buttplugs."

"The sexual energy between the mother and son really concerns me!"-random woman behind me at Next to Normal "I want to meet him after and bang him!"-random woman who exposed her breasts at Rock of Ages, referring to James Carpinello

Actually most of the reviews I've read have been pretty generous to Dakota-even that scathing New Yorker review from Anthony Lane who likes to up the quips gave her some praise. People have complained a lot aboutlack of chemistry and somewhat about Dornan but thanks to how acclaimed his run as a serial killer on The Fall is, his career shouldn't suffer.

Weren't they tied into contracts for sequels? it would seem idiotic for the producers not to do that.
