I know its early for speculation.... but why not? I thought that it really had a chance of closing once Taye left but judging by his opening being sold out i guess not. Who do you think the next hedwig will be?
The rumors I've been hearing from here and also some closely-affiliated friends is that Alan Cumming will be the final Hedwig come October and it will close in January.

Alan Cumming? Isn't he a bit mature to be playing Hedwig?

He is two years younger then JCM.

Since he's only a bit younger than JCM, I wonder if they'll modify the show. We don't need another knee brace. Otherwise I'm sure he'll be terrific

Just wondering, why would it close in January? If they are paying the bills and making some cash, I would suspect it will continue to play. Unless I am missing something?
But I'm also hearing the rumor that Alan Cumming is tapped to open Hedwig in the West End.
I've said this elsewhere on the board but my vote for next in line is Jonathan Groff. I previously thought he was all wrong for it but after seeing him in Hamilton - it's a totally different color on him. He always plays so sweet and earnest, I loved seeing him as a total bitch while displaying excellent comedic skills. Plus, there's the Midnight Radio "costume"
I would think a cardboard cut out of Marilyn Monroe would be a more boring choice. Or maybe a chair.
Well, we know Alan Cumming can do the German accent.

I would love to see Alan Cumming as Hedwig. Why would that be boring? It would be something exciting and daring for him. Yes I could see comparisons between him as Hedwig and him as the Emcee but in reality they are two completely different characters with different mentalities and souls. With Alan Cumming at the helm, I would imagine it would be a beautiful Hedwig with something we've never seen before. I really hope these rumors are true.
If he does Hedwig in the UK, maybe it will be more successful last time around. Hope so.
Seems likely it'll be Alan Cumming for 12 weeks. Though I haven't heard if the show plans to close with Cumming in January.
Cumming is a logical choice, but I have to say the idea doesn't really excite me. He's certainly capable and I think will handle the role with no problem. I just think that his take will be very similar to JCM's but without JCM's special magic. Not a horrible idea, but not revolutionary.

Unable to confirm anything about Cumming or a potential replacement, but can confirm that the show will definitely be around beyond October after Taye has already left.
Cummings is definitely a safe and obvious choice. I'd rather see someone not known for this type of a role. I'm trying to score tix to see Taye Diggs in this, but I don't want to go until he settles in to the role a bit more. It seems from the feedback on the boards that there is much to be worked out still.
Obvious, maybe. Easy choice, sure. But man alive, would I ever queue up to that box office in a heartbeat. I love Alan Cumming. I'd loved him for years since I interned with RTC while he was in Cabaret.
It's been enough years since the Ally Sheedy disaster to think about an actress as Hedwig.
To really shake things up, I say they go with Lena Hall as Hedwig. Can you imagine her sinking her teeth into the role and her take on the songs.
However for box office reasons, they might try to go with a "name" if they are available. Lady Gaga or someone of that ilk. Gwen Stefani, etc.
Not that she would do it now, but I would love to see PINK give it a shot.

How do they approach the Tommy scenes when Hedwig is played by a woman? No issues to me with a topless woman on stage but it could be be a little confusing with Tommy supposed to be male if Tommy has breasts.
I think Gaga could really be interesting if she can act. No idea if she can.
Will definitely see it if Alan Cumming is in it.
I think Jane said with Ally Sheedy the bandaged her breasts

Does no one else share my Groff enthusiasm?? Think of the vocals! Think of the booty shorts, people!

Not that there's a snowballs chance in hell of it happening, but IMHO a great HEDWIG could be Joseph Gordon Levitt.
