With the Oscars tonight and Tony nominations almost 2 months away, I was wondering who are the contenders for the Featured Categories?
I know for Featured Actor we (so far) have Andrew Rannells, Ramin Karimloo, Mike Faist, Lucas Steele, Tony Sheldon, Fred Johanson, Corbin Bleu (longshot), and then a load of people in Come From Away.
And for Featured Actress we have Brittain Ashford, Laura Dreyfuss (unless they somehow consider her Leading), Rachel Bay Jones (unless they somehow consider her Leading), Stephanie J. Block, and then whoever else pops up this spring.
So. Who looks to be good candidates for nominations? What actors/actresses am I leaving off that should be on this list?

But do all of them stand a chance? Maybe I'm wrong but I highly doubt we'll see Jennifer Laura Thompson or Kristolyn Lloyd get nominations (not to take anything away from their great performances though).
I would not be terribly surprised to see Jennifer Laura Thompson nominated- she's doing wonderful work even though she doesn't have enough to do.
Gavin Creel and Kate Baldwin are also definite possibilities for Dolly. At this point, the only real frontrunners seem to be Rachel Bay Jones and Lucas Steele.
I am a firm believer in serendipity- all the random pieces coming together in one wonderful moment, when suddenly you see what their purpose was all along.
Ramin is not going to get an nom. Even if they did fix up Gleb, the role is not beefy enough to get a Tony nomination. John will get one though and possibly win.
I think Jenn Colella and Caroline O'Connor are likely to be nominated

I'm predicting Featured Actress will be Rachel Bay Jones, Jenn Colella, Amber Grey, Caroline O'Connor, and Mary Beth Peil, with Jones solidly taking the win.
Actor is far more difficult, but Lucas Steele is a force to be reckoned with.
I liked Laura Dreyfuss' performance over Jen. Laura Thompson, honestly. And agreed that Stephanie J Block should get a nomination. She could be this year's Simmard.

I agree with you, Will. Saw the show Saturday and, although both were excellent, I didn't feel they were stand-out performances worthy of a Tony nomination.
SJB will be a lock for a nom as well as Brandon Uranowitz! Both will (should) be nominated! (of course, my opinion)

In what way would SJB be this year's Simard? She was a highlight (one of many) in a low-key, but critically celebrated revival. Simard (and Micah Stock), on the other hand, were surprise highlights in lukewarm, star-driven productions.
Your comparison is lost on me

Stephanie J. Block Rachel Bay Jones Mary Beth Peil Jenn Colella Jennifer Laura Thompson
Of those names listed, only Rachel Bay Jones is a shoe-in. Stephanie J Block is an industry favorite -- so she may very well make the cut. Laura Dreyfuss is more likely than Jennifer Laura Thompson.
Other potential contenders include:
Kate Baldwin (HELLO DOLLY)
Rachelle Ann Go or Katie Rose Clarke from SAIGON
Beth Leavel (BANDSTAND) --- another industry favorite
Ariana deBose (to show BRONX TALE some love)
Emily Padgett (depending on the size of her role) or one of the "girls" from CHARLIE -- Veruca can certainly be a scene stealing role.

I'm sorry quizking. I guess I was comparing solely on their big moments in the show which are both really comic (Block's Breaking Down was highlight of the night for me). I know that's a stupid comparison to make, thank you enlightening me.

Not to discredit her talent, but Rachelle Ann Go did not win the Olivier or was even nominated. In such a tight season, I'd be surprised if she got a nomination, the character of Gigi is very small compared to the others being considered.
I figured that Brittain Ashford for a definite nom and possible win. Kind of disappointed that more aren't feeling the same way. Rachel Bay Jones was very good, so I assume a nom for her, too.

Need I remind the board that Elizabeth Davis was nominated for Once?"
Neon, you copied my quote which I was solely referring to Krystolyn and JLT from DEH, where I agreed with another poster's assessment of their performances. I am confused why you chose to copy my quote which made no reference to Ms. Davis, at all. Or, did you use my quote as a general comment to apply to anyone who may have omitted a particular actor/actress that had this same (mine) opinion that others may disagree with, which is fine. Hence, copy the quote...
Not trying to give you a hard time, just curious if that's the reason, thanks.
I don't think phan24 was implying that all the females in DEH deserve/will receive Tony noms, only that there is no female in that show who, if nominated, would be in the lead category; they would bel featured.
