The name that was originally bandied about was Anne Hathaway

I wouldn’t hate seeing Anna Kendrick in this, she’s done Broadway before and it’d be great for her to come back. Seems like a role that’s right up her alley, I think she’d knock it out of the park

I really enjoyed Rosalie Craig in London. Too bad she won’t be part of the transfer.

Jessie Mueller would be my pick...

I’d like to see Annaleigh Ashford do this at some point.

If they're going for a name, I hope its Anna Kendrick. If they're going for a theatre name, I would love Jessie Mueller.

The name they're going for has been mentioned several times in this thread, and it's not Anna Kendrick.

Jessie Mueller is the best choice for this. Not only is she a fantastically talented and versatile singer, she is a pretty remarkable actress.

I can’t imagine Anne Hathaway is capable of singing this score once, let alone eight times a week. It would sell a lot of tickets though.

God please I want Jessie in this role. I could scream at the thought. https://youtu.be/R8HQtx6Vowk

Sneak peek? Hopefully! Fingers crossed.

If they aren’t bringing Rosalie over, it can be assumed they are seeking a movie star, which unfortunately pushes Jessie Mueller off the list.

I can still want Dunkin' Donuts to make five kinds of jelly donuts, fresh, on the premises several times a day. Will it happen, though?

They’d be very smart to get as high profile a name as possible to ensure this gets an audience.

Anna Kendrick reads too young for this.

Um, this is a thread to discuss the possible Company transfer, and Hathaway is far from confirmed for the role so I will continue speculating and throwing other names out there if I want, thanks!

I think Hathaway could be great, I just question the likelihood of her committing to a 6-12 month Broadway run. She's always got a slew of film projects in development, and she has a young family. This is a fairly big show and it's unlikely it could recoup in less than 6 months.

With Anna Kendrick, it's no wonder Bobbie is single, she's insufferable!

Just because they want Hathaway doesn't mean it'll happen lol. Im sure everyone show wants an A list/B list star to bill, doesn't mean it will 100% happen. I agree she could be great but I think Anna would be as well. Also, Lindsey Mendez would kill this score. Would love for any to happen!

There's now an EPA for this production. The only offer pending is for Joanne (PATTI). Think we'll see it as early as Fall? Definitely the Spring.

I did not see Michelle Williams in Cabaret, so I don't know how she did with the title song.  She is clearly a great actress, though, and did well with the songs in Fosse / Verdon, although that only meant that she needed to seat on key.  She would give the role the gravitas it requires.

If she played the role, there would be NOTHING BUT gravitas.

Aside from Anne Hathaway, the only other A list film actress I can think of who is the right age and who could maybe-possibly sing the score is Scarlett Johansson.

If they’re after a major actress and there’s an EPA up gearing for a production this season, wouldn’t the actress have pretty much already committed? Most major actress are busy and don’t have 6 months laying around.

Idina would make a fantastic Joanne, that was a great suggestion!

My first thought was Amy Adams.
