An original musical comedy “Female Troubles” is currently in development with a score by Amanda Green (lyrics) and Curtis Moore (music) and a book by Gabrielle Allan and Jennifer Crittenden.
“Female Troubles” follows Elinor Benton, an unmarried woman in 19-century England who finds herself unexpectedly pregnant. Given the time and her circumstances, Elinor needs a solution quickly. Her friends rally around her and set off on a Victorian-era girls trip to London to find a midwife. The show seeks to illuminate the present-day trials of women’s rights and reproductive freedom while asking, as the writers put it, “Can you believe this sh*t’s still happening in 1810?”
“We like to describe it as Jane Austen meets ‘Bridesmaids,’ but about women’s reproductive freedoms,” Green said in a statement.
Oh Man I looked fast and thought it was another John Waters musical and got excited.

Interesting that the Goodman announced this as a part of their season, and then replaced it with JRB’s new show, Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil.
I'm guessing they decided it needed more work.
Well, I just called to tell you I’m pregnant and I want money.

Me too! And the first scene that came to mind was the Cha Cha Heels scene!
“Female Trouble” follows Dawn Davenport, an unmarried high-school student in 1970s Baltimore who finds herself unexpectedly pregnant. Given her circumstances, Dawn needs a solution quickly. Her friends, Chicklette and Concetta, rally around her and they set off on a life of crime as upper-echelon cat burglars.
There, I fixed it.
I was waiting to Taffy to comment.
I've DONE everything a mother can do: I've locked her in her room, I've beat her with the car aerial. Nothing changes her. It's HARD being a loving mother!
N!
"My parents are gonna be real sorry if I don't get them Cha Cha Heels. I asked and I better get!"

THIS. I was SO ready.
Funny enough, Justin Sayre (the downtown queer cabaret artist) wrote an unofficial parody sequel to the movie as a staged reading a few years back. I heard it was a riot.

Can you tell me more about the Dynasty Typewriter website and how to purchase tickets?
This show sounds horrible.
Now, let's hear more of your Female Trouble musical fantasies, which is the best idea in history!
They actually did a mini Female Trouble musical on Drag Race Season 7 and it was hysterical.
Jackie Hoffman as Taffy please!
Until recently, I wouldn't have known who could do Taffy justice in another version, but having just binged The Righteous Gemstones, Edi Patterson would easily be my first choice. With constant brattishness on her face, Judy Gemstone is already halfway to Taffy, and I would LOVE to see and hear her interpretation.

I couldn't POSSIBLY eat spaghetti. Do I look Italian?
Just got a survey from Telecharge about naming this show. Of the choices they gave, I thought Female Troubles was still the best, with Unchaperoned as the only other one that was halfway decent.

I thought The Road To Ruin was a decent option.

I also received that email message. All of those suggested titles were horrible, especially when they were first presented without context. Nothing about those titles or the show's description sparked my interest. If anything, I was a hard NO! I'm not sure who is the target audience for this show.
