It is my opinion that if this board combined our collective knowledge, there wouldn't be a musical at least two people wouldn't know.

So, this is my challenge. Someone name a musical that no one else on this board will have seen. I'll start.

Anyone know a west coast musical named "Dixie Highway"?

No-one will ever have heard of the musical Virus, starring Jack Wild (Artful Dodger in the film Oliver), which played at the Theatre Royal, Nottingham (England) about seven years ago. It closed before its two week run finished, lost lots of money and disappeared into obscurity. No recording or anything.. Lost forever!

I don't know how obscure this one is, I accidentally stumbled across it the other day and have had a bit of a time finding out much about it: Nymph Errant. It was performed in 1933 in London and had a short run because of the depression, though Cole Porter thought it to be his best work.

The New Hopeville Comics, a really solid show about a comic book world turned upside down.

it was at the new york musical theatre festival 3 years ago and an LA production is now being mounted. You can also get a DVD of a performance when you donate $20 to american distractions. plus the cast recording is available too.

Diamond Studs...based on the life of Jesse James. Bizarre little show. It was in NYC in the mid-70s, if I recall...which is, of course, what makes it so weird. The 70s produced some of the weirdest shows ever. Are there any good shows that came out of the 70s that don't seem like they are from the 70s?

I knew someone would know Diamond Studs. It definitely is a strange piece (which I did in the 80's in NC). It was basically written an performed by the Red Clay Ramblers to promote themselves and was running in a saloon / bar in Chapel Hill, NC. NY producers caught the show and decided to bring it to NY, but the rights got caught up in a legal battle and it never made the transfer from off-Broadway to Broadway because of it. We even had issues with getting the rights to do it because of that battle.

I saw New Hopeville comics at the Fringe and have the recording, which features Megan Lewis (most recently of Forbidden Broadway fame).

Anyone else see or have the CD of Inappropriate which ran Off-Broadway a few years ago? Loved that show. Thought it deserved a much longer run. There were rumors that a film of it was being considered but I haven't heard anything else about it since it closed re: name a show no one knows

I did lighting for a production of Homeroom at my middle school. Of a similar concept is a musical called Yearbook.
