Why is she the only one that takes photos? Is it some union thing?

Cause she is an industry pro and one of the best in the business.
She is also extremely nice and a very sweet and funny lady.
I am not with familiar theatrical photographers, I just have noticed how Joan is always the credit. I am sure there are many others but she is just the one I have noticed the most.
I am not all familiar either. I have noticed looking through photos and whatnot, that Joan and Martha seem to have the most to present. Both are wonderful.

this woman is a goddess to me...
I have a huge fascination in production photography!
she's amazing!

anyone know how I could contact her? I have wanted to for about a year or so...
I think she is in the yellow pages.
Carol Rosegg seems to do many offical pictures as well. Both are exteremely skilled at capturing the moment.
Martha Swope has been retired for about 15 years.
The last show I think she shot was The Will Rogers Follies in 1991.

How do they do pictures on broadway? anyone know?
Usually I thought that people ran the show and you just get what pictures you can...
but this year I came to college and was introduced to a photo call, where you go to that point in the show and pose.

Speaking of Martha Swope, how about this shot she took of George Balanchine, and his cat, Mourka?
Look at that form! Look at that line! Bravissima!
I've seen a couple of other photographers' photos in Bway pics, but Joan Marcus always seems to be the person who stands out. I'm jealous - she has one of the best jobs lol.
Joan Marcus probably does the most work of any theatrical photographer, but Carol Rosegg and Paul Kolnik also shoot quite a few shows.

I've seen Paul Kolnik's name pop up more often nowadays.
I think he's more associated with dance though.

Photo call is indeed a pretty common procedure, although it doesn't happen all the time I imagine. But it's important for people involved in the production to have records of the show for both professional and sentimental reasons. Also, pictures are need for publicity, etc.
because she's a silver fox?
Joan Marcus is married to a theater professional too, isn't she? I'm not suggesting she gets her work this way at all. I really enjoy her photography and she's been doing it for years. I just remember hearing that she's married to a director or producer or someone?

He's done the Lestat photos. Can't say I really like them.
I would give my left arm to spend a day shadowing Joan Marcus.
Joan shot our photos for the souvenir book of the 2004 Joseph tour. The photo call was a PROCESS. It wasn't just stand and pose. We ran certain parts of the show over and over. That way you get the movement of the show in the photographs.
She took an amazing photo of me in a russian jump. I did the russians consecutively about 16 times, then she stopped me, and then we repeated the process. The photo is AMAZING though, so it was worth it.
Don't you think she needs to publish a book of all of her favorite theatrrical pictures? I'd love to have one! There's so many pictures that we never get to see and usually those are the most unique ones!
she should indeed! I am always fascinated with theatre photography! I LOVE the billy elliot throught the lens book... it was AMAZING!
