A friend of mine on this site told me that webber was considering letting Cher play norma desmond on broadway. What do you guys think of Cher playing norma desmond in the sunset boulevard film ?

I can't really see Cher doing the role now, especially with her scary plastic surgery, but it is worth noting again, that she was asked to open SUNSET in Toronto. Apparently, she really wanted to do it too, but was suffering from chronic fatigue syndrome at the time which made any kind of 8 show a week commitment totally unthinkable.
not in 1950 - back then, women attached safety clips to their excess skin and literally pulled it tight under a wig. Thats how Marlena Dietrich did it...
I think it would be interesting to see. It could be a train-wreck in a good way, or a train-wreck in a brilliant way. We'll never know.
"Some people can thrive and bloom living life in a living room, that's perfect for some people of one hundred and five. But I at least gotta try, when I think of all the sights that I gotta see, all the places I gotta play, all the things that I gotta be at"
I’ve always thought she would be amazing as Norma. I think she’s a better actress than a singer and a better singer than Glenn Close. It’s really too bad she wasn’t able to do the show in Toronto.
What most people ignore/forget is that Cher the singer is one thing, and Cher the actor is another. She's EXTREMELY versatle, and I have no doubt she could pull it off...I'd be running and pushing to get into the movie theater.
I'm having really horrific flashbacks to Seth's Bway 101 where he played a video of Cher singing "I Feel Pretty" and then had Laura Benanti sing for contrast. Hysterical but...
Cher just shouldn't sing anything written for anything above a tenor. Ever.
Now what would you say if today I started over?
Without a thing but this taped together four leaf clover
And I'll pretend like everything is already alright
And I'll run toward the sun till the castle's out of sight
She would be an interesting choice. She could do it. The songs will have to be sung in a lower key but so what. I think after Barbra Streisand Cher would be the oone actress that could sell lots of CD'S.
A good friend of mine who interned at the casting agency that is supposedly (?) preparing to cast this film claims that she just got the notice that they were preparing to cast, and that Streisand and Close were the top contenders.
