Suprised noone mentioned Prince & the Pauper. I really do love that show. Plus, isn't it strange that The Fantasticks never came to Broadway? It could work well in the Circle on the square theatre. Also, Princess, the witches of Eastwick, alot of the shows off Broadway (Nunsense comes to mind).

"I REMBER MAMA" a version that predated the R. Rogers version and only played Studio Arena Theatre in Buffalo, NY. It was supposed to go on to NYC, but didn't make it. It was a very good show with a delightful score and a lead actress who could SING, not like Liv Ullman

OMG! I had completely forgotten about Das Barbecue! I saw it a year or so ago at Triad Stage Company in Greensboro, NC. I see more of an off-broadway run for that show though...

I second A Man of No Importance, although I can't say I think it would last long re: Interesting Musicals That Never Made It To Broadway

I second Gloria Swanson's (The Norma in the actual movie) Sunset Blvd., which she had the whole script ready in about 1970 and she still played the lead, but the ending was altered a lot from the movie (with Betty + Joe ending differently).

Also, Frank Wildhorn's Svengali...been hearing about that one since like 1995, and it's in the Jekyll & Hyde playbill that I have from 1997 & 2000 about how it's upcoming on Broadway soon?
And also, just a sleuth of his works like Havana!. Who knows?!

Children of Eden (wouldn't be surprised if this got/gets some consideration with the commercial success of Wicked)

But I'm A Cheerleader was awesome. I concur with Reefer Madness the LA cast was good as was the Showtime movie version. You'd think they could have drummed up at least some potential Broadway Investors after the movie.
