He also lied, stating the NFL sent him (and only him, apparently) a letter stating they were concerned the debates fell on the same nights as a couple of games.
The NFL has stated emphatically they never sent him any such letter.
Best op-ed piece on Trump in a long while.

Trump has decided to repay McCain and Ryan for their support by refusing to support them in their upcoming primaries.
Effectively ruining any chance they had to withdraw their endorsement of him--if they did now they would just look petty.
Watching Krauthammer look so anguished talking about Trump is worth all.

When you read this piece, read the comments posted as well. I am so very afraid for this country right now.
Meg Whitman is endorsing Hillary and pledging to raise a lotta dough for her, too. Some choice quotes from Whitman regarding Trump (and Chris Christie) in the NYT.

Never read the comments. It's like reading the Off Topic Board.

Trump's Twitter comments are epic on both sides - many hateful people and so many comedians!
Joe Scarborough has shared an anecdote about Trump that, if true, is scary.
"Several months ago, a foreign policy expert on international level went to advise Donald Trump, and three times he asked about the use of nuclear weapons. Three times he asked, at one point, if we have them, why can’t we use them?"
I was listening to that segment, and former CIA Director Michael Hayden was their guest. Scarborough pressed Hayden for info about the process for the use of nuclear weapons. Obviously, Hayden couldn't provide specifics, but he stressed that the emphasis on that process was speed, not deliberation and checks & balances.
Multiple news sources are reporting that GOP leadership (Priebus, Gingrich, Guiliani) are planning an intervention to get Trump on track. Not sure that admitting your candidate needs an intervention can be remedied by having an intervention.

John Harwood at CNBC just reported that the Trump staff is "suicidal" and Paul Manfort has all but given up. Manafort went on Fox News to deny it.

There are some questionable stories circulating this morning that Trump might drop out. If that were to happen.. could Paul Ryan still run?
I think the nominee would be brought up by a group of delegates160 around. I heard something on NPR, they also said this would have to be done by early September. I guess we have to hope he holds on for another month, because I'm totally skeered that whomever they come up with will beat us in November. This is indeed a crazy, turning point election and time in our history. Hang tough Donald. We need ya.
I think if the GOP convinces DT to drop out, there will be a lot of DT supporters feeling very disenfranchised.
I predict it will happen Labor Day.
And when it happens will we win the election?
It's depressing thinking about Trump being replaced on the GOP ticket, admit it, you're skeered, I am.
I don't know. Whoever they put in will not have as much negativity around them as Trump has and could be looked at by them as a savior.
If Trump does drop out, the GOP would have to make a massive and swift recovery. He's made the party leadership look inept and cowardly. It would reinforce his narrative of a "rigged" system. It cost the RNC a massive amount of time and resources. Not only would the GOP have to deal with their terrible platform and policy proposals, they would now have to deal with the fact that they even backed Trump and wasted time and energy doing so. They would face a swath of angry Trump supporters who will make the Bernie or Bust folks look calm and measured by comparison.
The train has left the station on Trump. It's either stay on it and crash, or derail it and crash.
You're optimistic, the chances of the Republican being the next president go up by so much if he is somehow replaced with a Ryan, Romney, Kasich..... Wait for the next day polls if they change candidates, they will crush, and the base, even the Trump nut jobs will rally behind that candidate, we're not out of this yet, it's not a lock PJ. Just like Brexit.
In the unlikely event of a Trump dropout, the RNC would almost certainly move Pence to the top of the ticket. Although he didn't run, he was approved by the delegates at the convention.
