Usually they're so bland and uninspiring.
This is why South Park's "Blame Canada" was one of the best moments in Oscar history.
What, over Beyonce singing every song nominated last year? Please.
I did like that Hustle & Flow performance this year.
I liked the staging of it - hated the song.
audrey 2 singing mean green mother... from little shop
I guess it wasn't a particular performance, but I was very happy about the performances from two years ago (the 2004 awards, honoring the 2003 films). The performances prominently featured musicians playing the autoharp, the hurdy-gurdy, and the bicycle. How cool is that?
Burning car in the background during Crash song = tackiest thing ever?
Plus, the woman was getting felt up by the cop in the background! That was distracting!
And "Blame Canda" was a high point in Oscar telecast history.
Once you got past the hilarity of Bjork’s swan dress (which I loved), her performance a few years ago was mesmerizing.
I really enjoyed Aaliyah singing Journey to the Past back in 97 (I think).
Why do the performances always have to have a gimmick? Last year it was Beyonce, this year, it was the re-enactments of the movies in the background. I can't wait to see how they screw with them next year.
I still can't believe there were only 3 worthwhile original songs this year. Surely there some more good ones in there as well.
Oh God, I have Aaliyah's performance on video (aka the Titanic broadcast). LOVED it. Still can't believe she's gone. I think about her and listen to her music all the time.

They should have nominated the delightful "So Long, and Thanks for All the Fish" from HITCHHIKERS GUIDE TO THE GALAXY. It was he only worthwhile thing about that moive.
The most memorable Oscar song perfromance was the Theme from SHAFT - Isaac Hayes riding in at his keyboard, surrounded by funky go-go dancers with the fog machines going so strong that eventually you couldn't even see him!

I thought Brokeback Mountain's song would've got nominated, but guess not.
Speaking of the Robin Williams performance.

I really loved "There's Nothing Like a Show on Broadway." I thought it was a sweet tribute.

Dolly didn't need a gimmick with her song. It was just Dolly singing her great song in her cute little white suit.
I am so bitter about last night.

umm, Blame Canada was definately amazing, but my personal favorite was "You Must Love Me" for Evita, but that was because i was at that years Oscars.
That Thing You Do had an electrifying performance at the Oscars with the best choreography I've ever witnessed at an Oscar ceremony. I wish I had it on video because it was fantastic!

Here are my choices
When You Believe- The Prince of Egypt
Beyonce singing that Phantom of the Opera song
If You Just Believe- sung by that one dude with the curly hair
Perhaps, since Dolly was the only one of the three songs without something going on, they could have had a real sex change operation going on in the background.
Dolly joked about having had a sex change operation when she had her "girl innards ripped out".

That's probably why she lost, not enough visual aids.
That one dude is Josh Groban.
I have strong memories of the year Anastasia was in the running. They had the Russian ballet perform when they played selections of the score. Beautiful.
