"The Spectacle has, indeed, an emotional attraction of its own, but, of all the parts, it is the least artistic, and connected least with the art of poetry. For the power of Tragedy, we may be sure, is felt even apart from representation and actors. Besides, the production of spectacular effects depends more on the art of the stage machinist than on that of the poet."

I saw this news report on TV -- just terrible. No $400 tv is worth a man's life.

Just read this item as well. Holy heck what is wrong with some people?

"All I ask of you is one thing: please don't be cynical. I hate cynicism -- it's my least favorite quality and it doesn't lead anywhere. Nobody in life gets exactly what they thought they were going to get. But if you work really hard and you're kind, amazing things will happen." Conan O'Brien

Unbelievable!!! But then, is it? The world is out of control. Just look at what is occurring in India at this exact moment. Pure evil...

You see this stuff on the news every year... I just don't understand the mad and panicked rush to get into the store. Can't people line up and be civilized if they feel the need to go to these sales events?

Call the understudy / I can't go on tonight / I'm drinking with my buddy / I'm getting good and tight / Before they raise the curtain I'll be higher than a kite / So call the understudy I can't go on tonight

I was looking through the Best Bey circular and if you look at the fine print it says they only have one or two units available per store at the sale price.

Talk about the ole bait and switch!

Poppy, you got that right, the world is out of control. All through elementary school we were taught to line up in an orderly fashion. Wal Mart could have hired a few cops to stand in front of the store and get people lined up.

Aren't their codes for theaters and night clubs for crowd control in case of fire, so that people don't get trampled? I thought there were. The stores need to adhere to some sort of code as well.

I may not know a lot about theater but I know that I love it.

I'm sure Wal-Mart will be sued, by all parties injured, for their lack of control.

THIS is why I get my daughter a wheelchair for all trips involving an airport or train station.

It's like the deaths each year during the Hajj in Mecca...except they're going to pray and we're going shopping.

"Wal Mart could have hired a few cops to stand in front of the store and get people lined up."

Exactly. They should have had a better system than this. Really, I blame WalMart since it is something that could easily be prevented. For example, Best Buy has people line up, then when they waiting employees are asking what they are getting of the big discount items and employees give tickets for it. Then customers go in and get in line for that item (or items). Once the tickets are out, that is it for the item. When new people get in line employees ask what they want and if they are out, the customers are informed of it and can wait for other stuff.

But there are no rushes because they do everything they can to prevent that from happening

"Kimberly Cribbs, who witnessed the stampede, said shoppers were acting like "savages.... When they were saying they had to leave, that an employee got killed, people were yelling 'I've been on line since yesterday morning. They kept shopping."

Disgusting.

I know there's humor in this because of the absurdity of the situation, but I just can't even laugh at it because it's so, as Diva said, "disgusting." It's just depressing to think people can be this cold and self-centered.

I hope the stores video cameras got some good pictures of the people. They need to be arrested. And they should show their faces on TV.

I hope they all got what they wanted…

I agree, Diva. This shouldn't just be brushed to the side. I don't know how they're going to determine who caused this guy's death, but I hope they do.

Wal-Mart is/was the cause of death, they caused the situation. I think it would be almost impossible to prove who or whom in a mad crowd actually caused the death and injuries. Granted Wal-Mart didn't make these people do what they did, but I still blame Wal-Mart.
