His rendition of Holy Night sends shivers down my spine, especially when he does the "NOooooooeeeeeEL" part...oooooh!
Love him, love him, love him. I hope he hasn't damaged his voice beyond repair. It would be be so sad to see such talent go to waste so early on in his career.

I'm with Evie. LOVE his O Holy Night!
What I wouldn't give to have seen Chess.
thank God!! I thought it was just me that detested him. To me, I don't think his voice is even that great sounding, and the fact that he has no emotion behind it, well, let's just say I would rather be front row center to watch harvey Fierstein play jean ValJean.

SLS (the technique josh studied under) is an invention of Seth Riggs. It is short for "Speech-Level Singing"...which helped get Seth Riggs kicked out of NATS.
Josh's voice was fantastic, and now the vibrato is just weird.
With that said, he is a very sweet guy, and whoever said he had nothing going on when he sang wasn't paying attention...he is a very passionate singer, and not hard on the eyes either.
He's a mediocre (at best) legit singer who's crossed over into the pop world, where people who are used to pop/Broadway, etc., think he's brilliant. He wouldn't make it in the classical world.
Every few years someone like this comes along...Andrea Bocelli, anyone?
I think he is pretty mediocre as well and definitely agree that, he may be a passionate singer, but it does not come across...he looks uncomfortable performing.
Oh, Pippin, you made me choke on my Cobb Salad in the employee break room.
I can just hear your icon... "Oh, nooooo, not Jean Valjean!"
Don't care about technique but Groban puts on one boring ass concert. He has no stage presence whatsoever.
And that's an unforgiveable crime.
Watch a KISS concert and learn how to work a crowd, Josh.
(Blood-spitting optional of course.)
I haven't heard any of his recent stuff, but his voice sounds fine to me...
He's kind of one of those people that falls in the same caterogory as Charlotte Church for me... I don't really like them... but I don't really hate them.
has anyone here heard Josh Young? my new love www.josh-young.com I found him on myspace i think the page is myspace.com/joshyoung and btw...I'm so glad I found a thread about groban...i havent looked in the "off topic" br

NATS = national association of the teachers of singing
This is me when I watch him perform.
He freaks me out, he's so weird and awkward.
Rath- thank you for bringing up Andrea Bocelli.
In the late 90s, when the world was crazy for him (including several of my friends), I'd have endless arguments about his voice and how he really wasn't anything special. I'd usually get "But he's BLIND!" as if that's a qualifier.
There are far, far more talented people than Bocelli. He just has a "story" and good publicists (or did, anyway.)
caught Groban on The Today show last week - oy - he was so angst-ridden. I guess he's finally trying to act the material - but he should stick to studio stuff - watching him almost hurts.
I know, Cheno - Bocelli's quality (what there is) is completely inconsistent. Put that label "classical singer" on someone in the pop world, and the general public convinces themselves of their immense talent.
Gag.
I'd rather be pushed off a bridge that listen and/or watch the Groban.
I'm so over these faux-legit singers. I mean...if they're legit, I should be at the f*cking Met.
"Faux-legit." Thank you for finally coming up with a term, robbiej!!! KISS ME!!!!
Augh. Andrea Bocelli.
I was finishing up my Italian studies minor in college as he was hitting his peak popularity in the U.S., and all my professors just LOVED him. They also LOVED Roberto Benigni and made us watch all his movies (this was also around "Life is Beautiful" time). Both ANNOYED me.
I always thought: We're studying a culture that produced Dante, Michelangelo, Pirandello et al -- and these are the two schlubs you want to push off as the culture's modern-day representatives?
Roberto Begnini is insanely popular in Italy. I did love "Life is Beautiful" but can easily see how he can be so annoying.
I agree about Dante, Michelangelo, etc. For God's sake, why not at least look at Maria Callas (who was French-born but was the darling of Italy)? So many amazing Italian artists to consider, and they go right for the ones with good PR.
I can think of one, Idina Menzel.
