Reg, I wasn't saying you were wrong at all. I never even thought about any anti-gay theme in SotL. I am sure the interview would have disgusted me, too.
Pretty pretty please don't you ever ever feel like you're less than f**ckin' perfect!
Ahem. That belonged to Sigourney Weaver for GORILLAS IN THE MIST.

I often call an old friend and loudly whisper, "Doctor Lechter! Doctor Lechter!" in that bad accent she uses at the end of the movie. ((He responds with, "Don't you hurt my dog!" to which I say, "Don't you make me hurt your dog!" There have been times where that was the extent of the conversation. lol)) Nice accent...

I told Taz in a PM, but just for the record (since I know I'm sounding like Jodie's Enemy No. 1): I liked "Silence of the Lambs," liked her in it, didn't pick up on any anti-gay stuff myself, and thought she deserved the Oscar that year.
"The gods who nurse this universe think little of mortals' cares. They sit in crowds on exclusive clouds and laugh at our love affairs. I might have had a real romance if they'd given me a chance. I loved him, but he didn't love me. I wanted him, but he didn't want me. Then the gods had a spree and indulged in another whim. Now he loves me, but I don't love him." - Cole Porter
Well I guess it's time to bump this puppy back up again. What an idiot smh
WARNING: For the young or easily offended - this does contain strong language and... well it's Mel doing what Mel does when he can't control himself. From TMZ
What the holy crap was that?!?! I couldn't understand most of what he was saying until near the end. But it doesn't matter because he is clearly insane. That is just...gah.

Mel is a nut! He needs help. However, this guy taped Mel Gibson having one of his tantrums as if he knew exactly when it was going to happen. Did this guy record it as an insurance policy? Just in case Mel did not like/buy his script? Makes me wonder. Any meeting Mel Gibson has in the future may very well be recorded without his knowing it. I'm sure Mel has learned his lesson regarding leaving polite and proper voice mails from now on,but this? Joe Eszterhas may have done more damage to his career than Mel's. Not a very smart move IMO. Gibson and Eszterhas communication was documented and somewhat professional.
Displaying this all over again to the public was uncalled for.Joe clearly wants everyone to know he is the victim here.Only thing Joe wanted to do was embarrass Mel Gibson. Only thing Mel is guilty of is being an asshole.I'm sure no one in Hollywood talks like this.No Director or producers or anyone with any power (not excusing it by the way)
Having said this, Mel needs help and I don't mean getting help every time one of these tapes surface. Mel really needs to be medicated or something. No telling what he may do.

In my state it's illegal, without a court issued warrant, to tape conversations (including rants) without all those speaking having knowledge of being recorded. Certainly other states have similar laws, don't they?
To be fair romantico, what has Eszterhas' career been since the unholy trinity of Showgirls, Jade, and An Alan Smithee Film: Burn Hollywood Burn?
As for Mel, now I want to know if this whole new persona is a transformation or has always been there. I mean did Oksana do a number on him because she comes up in the middle of this rant that I doubt either Eszterhas or his son would indulge in with Mel for conversation.
I seriously think the only friend Mel has is Robert Downey Jr. and that is because Mel paid insurance for Downey to appear in his films out of pocket when he was considered a risk after his arrests/imprisonment.
Eszterhas is still writing major movies? Wasn't he sorta written off, not just because he started to have some infamous flops, but also had issues with his temper and people working with him?
Maybe Eszerhas is hoping this will find him some attention/work. I think Mel hated his script and Eszterhas was pissed. Like Mel's ex girlfriend, I think Joe knew what buttons to push to get a reaction. Since my earlier post I've read an article where I discovered that Mel is actually taking medication. Either he skipped a day or two or they need to increase it. At least Mel didn't get physical. Joe made some incorrect statements which leads me to think more and more that it's just personal. For example, Joe claimed Mel was doing this film to help his image. However, anyone researching this on Google can see Mel has wanted to do a film on this subject for years, before his arrest and before he made anti-Semitic rants.
I fear one day someone is going to piss Mel off and while ranting on and on he is just going to drop dead. I remember a couple years ago with the voice mails how he was panting and couldn't seem to catch his breath.Despite the rage and anger, his shortness of breath did not sound good.
Also hearing Joe is meeting with Mel's ex. Mel is crazy and needs help but Joe had 'other motives' for recording and making these tapes public. Like I said before, Hollywood is not gonna trust this has been screenwriter after this.

A couple of years ago I was outside the O'Neill when SPRING AWAKENING was letting out. I was waiting for a friend who saw the show and we were talking for a few minutes. Pretty much everyone had come out of the theater but then Mel Gibson walked out. He was alone and nobody recognized him (I have an uncanny ability to recognize celebrities). I remember looking at him in amazement, this old man with white hair walking very slowly, clutching a rolled up playbill and shuffling down the street towards Broadway. He looked so much older than he was/is and I remember feeling so bad for him. Here was this iconic worldwide sex symbol who in the course of a few years had gone from that to a little old man who really looked alone and sad.
Ezterhas and his ego briefly fascinated me--at least over 5 years now--it was incredible how he crashed and burned (of course his bigger hits--even A class sleaze like Basic Instinct which I admit I like, was usually helped by good directors). In a way he was shunned almost to the extent Gibson was due to his reaction to the failure of his work (of course without the misogyny, death threats, anti-everything...) I would believe he had an ulterior motive for leaking these. Then again, I hate to admit if Mel left a message like that on my phone for whatever reason, I'd be tempted to leak it as well.
Yeah, the Eszterhas leaking the situation has its own motive...God knows what.
That said, Ezterhas' book THE DEVILS GUIDE TO HOLLYWOOD is a bitchy, entertaining read. Maybe Joe ought to reinvent himself as a gossip columnist. For the record, I admired JAGGED EDGE, MUSIC BOX, and yes BASIC INSTINCT.
