This thread hijack is riveting--a movie-of-the-week update of CAT, with Greg a reluctant Brick missin' his Skipper. Oh, that Tennessee knew what he was writin' about, didn't he?

I read all 6 pages of this, and I'm just glad to see more people are Bush bashing then ever before. Is it REALLY bashing when it's true, though? I'm not sure. If the man can interrupt his vacation (and yes, he DOES really take vacations, the most of any US president in history) to try to "save" Terry Schiavo, wouldn't it be a good idea to high-tail it back to the White House and at least TRY to look more concerned about the fate of the Gulf Coast than his golf handicap? It's not just NOLA (about which I am profoundly sad), it's not-so-beloved places like Gulfport, MS and Biloxi (pronounced as a "u", Bi-LUX-ee), and my home state of Alabama that are truly devastated. The destruction is worse than originally thought, unfortunately.

Zzannahk, you said people are "effing" stupid to live in Florida. What are you even talking about? Birmingham, AL was affected by Katrina. It's not coastal, but are you saying that people are stupid to live there too? Should we ALL move inland, like, to Tornado Alley? Great idea. Keep 'em coming.

Greg-4Now, if you are implying that Clinton raped women but don't know enough to know that he signed DOMA, I think you should turn off Fox news and step away from the TV. There is no mainstream liberal media, by the way. Turn off your Limbaugh hatemonger radio and go read something. Educate yourself. (And I too am sorry for your loss on 9/11).

To sum up, I guess it's a good thing that Bush 43 invaded Iraq so we can steal their oil reserves, 'cause that mean old Katrina interrupted our Gulf Coast pipelines and we're gonna need someone's oil to help out!

I sincerely hope that everyone's families are friends affected by the storm are at least safe and dry at present.

Ok, ok...I give. Lessons learned and here they are (plus some commentary).

A) I will absolutely stay away from all political conversations on BWW Off-Topic Board in future, so I do not offend those that are intolerant of my opinion: besides its not possible to have a reasonable discussion with the "other side" because of a handful of far too bitter and angry individuals (not all, just a few).

B) I have learned that some folks here just can't imagine that there are actually genuinely straight, married guys that like the theater...a lot. All must wrong with the universe when this happens; therefore this man must be a closeted homosexual. Right...I got it now. Gotta love those open minds!

C) FindingNamo - Man, you have some serious deep-rooted hate, rage, anger, bitterness...et al. And if I may say, a strange thought process. I don't know who wronged you in your life but I hope you get over it, or at least get some help. Life is way too short to go around being this bitter; more so with people that are total strangers.

As far as my wife...she knows everything about me, who I am, where I've been and who I've been with, my likes and dislikes ...there are no secrets. Its a much easier life, at least for me. You should try it sometime.

As far as the "hard earned cash" I throw around; (and this is where you really pissed me off) I have given more money to charity in the last four years of my life then you will probably make in the next 10 years of yours. Who I give to is my business; but when you're ready to compare your Schedule A and 8283 to mine, I'll be happy to meet you. And for the record, I don't list some of my donations because its not worth a possible visit from Uncle Sam. (Now, I am sure your imagination is running wild - its perfectly legal to NOT list certain donations. If I list them all, it would exceed a certain percentage of my gross income and trigger an audit - again, nothing to hide, but audits are a big pain)

You need to practice what you preach regarding tolerance; frankly you have none outside your myopic viewpoint (or at least based upon what you've written to me). If the square pegs don't fit...then rip'em apart, right Namo???

D) PalJoey - I'm sure we don't agree on much, but some of your posts are amusing.

E) Starchild - The rape claim was made by Juanita Broaddrick, not by me. Sorry, I didn't know that Clinton signed DOMA. Maybe I read it, but I don't remember much of it. I travel a lot and was out of the country for long periods of time during the mid and late 90's.

I don't listen to Limbaugh; its not news, its shtick and not even good shtick. When I listen to the radio its for one of three things; music, traffic and the Yankee game...talk radio is pretty boring, I don't care who's doing the talking.

There is a vast universe of great people, different people; It has been my experience that most people are capable of being good, kind, honest and loving, given the chance. The question is; when you meet them, do they have a chance to be part of your life? Or will you dismiss them (or worse yet, mistreat them) because they don't look like you, talk like you, act like you, live like you or think like you?

Dr. Martin Luther King once said, "Darkness can't drive out darkness, only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that."

Ok ... I am done on this thread...if you want to continue with me then do it in a private message.

Okay, good, now that he's gone, let's really dish, girls.

So, he wants us to know how rich and powerful he is, so that can only mean one thing. MAJOR PUSHY POWER BOTTOM! You know the type, giving orders as his helium heels ascend to the heavens. Like Jim Guckert's clients.

It's all so obvious. She's getting all pissy about being a "straight male who loves theater," who just so HAPPENS to have had sex with guys in the past. Mmmmmmhmmm, yeah Miss Thing, go on with your bad gay self!

C) I'm not bitter at all. I'm bittersweet!

Back on topic.

Jack Cafferty is the one memeber of the so-called liberal media who is really calling the president on hisd lack of leadership.

This is what he just said on CNN:

"You wonder, given the notice that we had, that this thing was out there and it was getting to be just as deadly and nasty as they're capable of being, you wonder if more could have been done, should have been done to prepare, to evacuate, to do some contingency planning... You wonder with almost a week's notice from the time this thing crossed the Florida peninsula if enough was done to protect the people in the path of this storm."

I played General Major Pushy Power Bottom in a little known G&S operetta. It's a great role, with an unforgetable 11 o'clock spot, "I Am Modern Marvel Of A Model Private Poufter." Check it out, perhaps a rare recording is available at Colony.

An editorial from the staunchly Republican Manchester (NH) Union Leader. (I disagree with their praise for his actions after 9/11.)

---
Editorials - August 31, 2005

Bush and Katrina:

A time for action, not aloofness

AS THE EXTENT of Hurricane Katrina’s devastation became clearer on Tuesday — millions without power, tens of thousands homeless, a death toll unknowable because rescue crews can’t reach some regions — President Bush carried on with his plans to speak in San Diego, as if nothing important had happened the day before.

Katrina already is measured as one of the worst storms in American history. And yet, President Bush decided that his plans to commemorate the 60th anniversary of VJ Day with a speech were more pressing than responding to the carnage.

A better leader would have flown straight to the disaster zone and announced the immediate mobilization of every available resource to rescue the stranded, find and bury the dead, and keep the survivors fed, clothed, sheltered and free of disease.

The cool, confident, intuitive leadership Bush exhibited in his first term, particularly in the months immediately following Sept. 11, 2001, has vanished. In its place is a diffident detachment unsuitable for the leader of a nation facing war, natural disaster and economic uncertainty.

Wherever the old George W. Bush went, we sure wish we had him back.

Just want to say...with all the loss of death and looting, thank god we have as many National Guard as we need.

Uh, we don't?

We are they?

Oh, Iraq.

Actually, about 60% of Mississippi's National Guard has been assigned to organizing relief efforts. Not everyone is in Iraq.

Anyone watching Bush's comments on Katrina right now? It's on NBC, CNN and probably a few others.

I saw the comments. I try to stay out of the political realm on this board b/c I'm still figuring out some of my views but I'm glad that relief efforts are taking place.
