If you have read one of the novels, this is not the thread for you.
What if you were forced to read the first one and didn't like it and never read another? That's my story.
never read them, just the movies
Never read any of the books, never saw any of the movies.

I haven't. I read part of the 1st one for a book report. I didn't follow it at all. I was scanning it...and I didn't catch on. Woops.
Not I.

cturtle, don't be embarrassed, be proud!
This is an exclusive club where membership is self-selected by NOT reading one of those books, and falling into the Pit of Potter Promotion. By electing to qualify for this club each of us is refusing to be a sheep coaxed along by the herders of marketing.
BTW, folks, seeing the first film does not automatically disqualify one's membership. Reading any of the novels does however.
But, cturtle, as a children's librarian, you've just been elected chairperson of this club.
Zip.
But I'm starting to feel under-read. Might soon succumb to the pressure.
Add me to the list.
I've also never seen any of the STAR WARS films.
They just didn't capture my interest.
I only saw the first Star Wars movie. Never felt inclined to see the rest. I DID, however, have one of those damned plastic models of the Enterprise and a gazillion little plastic Star Wars characters occupying space in my house for a year or two. The starship had the annoying tendancy to lose small parts when played with, and I invariably stepped on them when barefoot. I suspect that I subconsciously equate Star Wars with pain.
That being said, it still makes me happy to think that the release of a children's book can create such excitement.

Never read the books, never saw the movies. The same for LORD OF THE RINGS.
Never read any of the books... saw half of the first movie and thought it was awful.

I have only had to listen to some of the tapes while on car trips with the kids, mildly amusing.

Hi, my name is Yenta and I have never read a Harry Potter book. However, it is a great series for kids and it gets them reading!

I read number 1, but not another.

cturttle - I must respectfully disagree with the wisened and always correct Jose' and question your non-response to this phenomenon. Despite all the over-hyped promotion, it is beyond debatable that this series has re-invigorated the interest in books among young people. I'm amazed that you've been able to hold yourself outside it's sphere.
Never read the books, never saw the movies.
Don't feel I've missed out on anything either.
Thank God for this thread. I am not alone.
I attempted the first one - couldn't get through. Own the first 4 - but haven't attempted any of them after trying to first the one.

If your implication is that those who have read the books are of no interest to you, Jose', then I am happy to fall outside your limited radar.
I never read the books and I didn't see the movies either. I sat in the theater for the first movie but I fell asleep fifteen minutes into it, I kid you not.
