"The boots are extremely comfortable and warm (very good for walking around Ithaca's campus in December, I might add), but the craze around my area is just out of control. I just love it, though, when I see the 45 year old mothers with their jeans tucked into their boots trying to be like the teenagers!"
Isn't there just the teensiest possibility that those 45 year old mothers who are ALSO walking around Ithaca just might possiblity be wearing them because they also want something that's warm and comfortable? I know - it's a radical thought but you never know....
Well, while I will agree with Joshua and others that I was under the impression that Uggs were SO 2003, they are quite warm and toasty. I am from SoCal and remember surfer girls wearing them with skirts back in the day--this is 80s/90s--so they've been around a while, but the way they've exploded is crazy. In my book when a "trend" has been around long enough for the knock-offs to hit payless (and I love me some payless, mind you!) then it's no longer on the cutting edge, it's on the downward slope of the trend.
OOh, and YES, I love moonboots, and they are comnig back--I saw a girl tonight in fabulous yellow ones.
Okay, so maybe they are warm.
But when half the grade of snotty prep school girls in FLORIDA is wearing them on a day when it is 70 degrees outside...that just plain makes me nuts.
Florida? Wow, that really is extreme... I'm not sure how that can be justified! I personally think my poor feet would be sweltering hot in those weather conditions!
Exactly. It can be justified by one thing and one thing only: style.
Ug buys ugly houses.
Ugg = uggly
They look ridiculous. Luckily the trend is starting to die out in Chicago. I have a couple of friends who have them and I laugh whenever I see them. They just look so silly. Good marketing can make people buy anything. Trendy fashion is at its lowest since the 70s.
I agree, I don't think they are cute. But here in my town, every single girl has a pair of ugg boots. Not including myself, of course... becuase I dont' care about being in fashion, and the ones who do care that much need to get lives. The girls won't be wearing these boots next year when the next fad comes.. anyone else have tons of people with side-swept bangs in their area?

I have a pair of the pink knockoffs - but only for the snow. I've only worn them once so far, although obviously I'll be wearing them to work tomorrow (and changing into shoes once I get there). I have to admit they are warm as anything and comfortable as slippers. And perhaps the real ones have no tread, but these do. I had a pair of similar $100+ boots from a few years ago that also had no tread. I hated them - I fell and cracked my a** wearing them because they were so slippery. These cheap ones are more comfortable and much safer.
i am ashamed to say that i live in FL and i own a pair...i just love them though cause i have this crazy disease or something that i get freezing cold in like 65 degree weather..so not only do i think they are adorable, but i also use them for thier acual purpose
I have Fuggs, which is what the kids in my school call "Fake Uggs" (Creative, no? lol). They're really comfortable but having like 20 pairs is ridiculous. EVEYONE in my school has them. It's like Attack of the Clones but... Attack of the Uggs. ha.
I went to http://www.uggaustralia.com, and those "fuzzy" Uggs the lady is wearing are hideous!
Ugg boots...have never tried a pair, but actually saw someone wearing them today. I probably could never pull off the look.

Since I go to one of the preppiest schools in my area, I can totally relate. I am pretty much the only one without Ugg boots, though I must confess to owning Ugg clogs, which I think are much more practical anyway.
in my school to miami florida 87 degrees and 20people in uggs with mini skirts and tank tops!
The point of Ugg Boots is not to be fashionable, it is to be practical. They were developed as a cheap way for AUSTRALIAN shearers to keep warm during cold nights.
THEY WERE INVENTED IN AUSTRALIA AND AUSTRALIANS AREN'T ALLOWED TO EXPORT THEM!!!
Another example of American Corporations screwing over the rest of the world. The name Ugg Boots was taken by an American Company, despite the fact that it has been used by Australians for decades (at least).
As usual, America one, rest of the world zero.
Of course, where would these corporations be if they were forced to be honest?
I am just upset that American greed has practically killed an Australian industry.
Ugg Boots are an Australian Icon. We've been wearing them for decades. All of a sudden America wants, America gets.
Paradox is correct. The Ugg is as ocker as meat pies and kangaroos. The shearers had the first uggs. But, it was the surfer dudes in Australia who made the boots popular in the 1960s and 1970s. These surfers were the first to market the boot as the Ugg.
It was the surf culture that spread the Ugg to California and beyond. I have to say that by the 1980s, back home in Oz, the Ugg had settled into a bogan charm. The recent popularity of these boots is somewhat baffling. However, I cannot ignore the warmth of the Ugg. In Ugg boots your feet will be as warm as an Australian beach in January.
