Better than making everyone schlep up to Washington Heights, but...oy.
Would love to know what went down with Radio City/MSG.
When the Tonys were at the Beacon, it created a lot of seating nightmares because the co-producing/investing teams are so large and one of the perks is being able to buy tickets. The Beacon has 2894 seats, Radio City has 6,000, and United Palace has 3300. The Koch, by contrast, only has 2,586 seats –– the Tonys smallest venue in decades (aside from the Covid year at the Winter Garden).
So unless the League also changes who is eligible to win a Tony (which they should), and caps the number of Best Musical/Play/Revival nominees at four (which they should), there's going to be madness on their hands. I don't envy the GMs, producers, and League staff who have to figure out this mess.

Deeply disappointed that the League & Wing would hold the Tonys in a venue named for someone who gave millions of dollars to harm LGBTQ people, minorities, and women. It’s frankly disgusting

I was wondering if something happened with Jim Dolan/MSG. The Koch is a beautiful venue, albeit smaller than Radio City. I think it would be a cool idea to use the whole of Lincoln Center and its different stages/theatres. Have awards in the Koch theatre, performances in the Beaumont, and they can use the outside square for extra viewers on screens.

I'd rather have it at a smaller theatre with limited seats than panning to extensive amounts of empty seats at Radio City...

Nice choice IMO.
Lincoln Center has some gorgeous spaces and the acoustics are top-notch. I once went to the Geffen back in 2018 to see Dudamel conduct Beethoven’s 9th complete with a full chorus, and it was quite the experience.

Geffen/Avery Fisher was known for its piss-poor acoustics and has been fully renovated since 2018 with acoustics in mind. So hopefully the 9th would sound even better there now!

It's a good choice for a venue. For red carpet events including parking and staging areas Lincoln Center is probably the best choice in the city.

I agree, along with funding the pathway to our present radical right Supreme Court who will ensure that the company that lives beyond him will continue to heat up and destroy the planet.
But this is a given of nyc culture, that vast amounts of money Trumps everything. The present court troubles of Mister Mr. in NYS are a rare exception.

Had the announcement of this venue as host been made 15 years ago when the theater was first named for this person, I’d understand the outrage. However, after 15 years of hosting productions without any significant boycotts or protests, this disgust feels a little late and very much in line with the faux outrage and cancel culture mentality we see every day on social media. I don’t like the Koch’s either, but when this happens now instead of then, it looks like people are scavenging for malice for the sake of hoopla rather than truly being concerned.

Oh, I'm sure Lincoln Center will address it in around fifty years when it serves their own social media agenda, the way they've just un-buried the injustices of the razing of the Puerto Rican neighborhood that they built the complex on top of in the 1950's.

Great choice! It's a beautiful theatre. This year's ceremony had an equally beautiful theatre. So many great theatres all over the city to choose from.
Ermengarde, when you are referring to seating nightmares, are you referring to because it's a smaller venue, less seats are made available to the general public? Or, do you mean people who had tickets, found someone else in their assigned seat?

I think it was two-fold. Radio City had too many seats so there were a lot of empty ones they thought they could sell and two its probably REALLY expensive to rent and I'm sure Paramount is cutting back on linear programming that doesn't rate well (at least for an awards show). I think Lincoln Center makes more sense (it makes the red carpet so much easier since it has a courtyard and there are driveways into the center that don't block traffic). But it's unfortunate it's that theater and not The Met (who could use the dough right now).

Well, the Kochs don’t earn income from its use, which can’t be said for Trump supporter James Dolan and Radio City.

Regarding the ceremony:
After the smashing success of this year’s unscripted Tony telecast, I think it should continue in the future without writers.
Bring back DeBose as host - and for the opening number, I’d like to see her join company members from each of the Best Musical and Best Revival of a Musical nominees and perform some choreography from each show.
Oh, and please also bring back Julius Rubio and his hotness, he deserves an encore after this year’s impressive “stair catch.”

YES, I hope they incorporate some of the unscripted elements, too.
I liked DeBose as a host, but let someone else do it this year. I just don't like a perennial host for anything.
Red Carpet and Press Room will indeed be much easier considering the LC campus. Doesn't solve the co-producer problem of it all, but we'll see what happens.

I think about the stair catcj so much. It was all I could think about when I was at the United Palace for the Only Murders in the Building event.

I really liked the pre-recorded press material and interviews before each show’s performance.
And adding onto my “stair catch” comment, I seem to recall that Ariana and Julius actually spent a full week together (in and out of the rehearsal room) to forge a closer bond leading up to the iconic moment. I definitely remember them sharing a bicycle one of those days (per Ari’s Insta story), and I believe they saw a few shows together too.

That would be a great way to thank the WGA for agreeing not to picket this year's ceremony! ![]()

They were already close friends long before the stair catch. Julius played Quique in the WSS film.
