I’m just happy Hells Kitchen didn’t win, which I thought was a real possibility.  I thought their leading lady gave a beautiful speech.

The worst opening in the history of the show. They had Empire State of Mind and Willkommen and they chose to open with that??

Did anyone notice that Daniel Radcliffe was handed the awards by Ben Platt, who is doing the same character in the movie version (that we're gonna see in 2039)

One thing I noticed....They forgot to include Sarah Rich during the Im Memoriam.

I enjoyed the evening. I teared up a lot. Along with a few of the speeches I got a bit emotional having moved away late last year and seeing people I met and know from my time back there in the community.

Just give the world Love.

Being in the UK I am relying on clips uploaded on social media, but so far I have been unable to find one that shows Radcliffe's category in full - "...and the nominees are..."  If anyone knows of one, please let me know.

Most competitive = slim pickings.

You won’t be able to say this next year and it will again be extremely competitive.

No offense, but I hope this is the last time Debose hosts.

I would love for Lin Manuel Miranda to host!

She's already said it is. (But she was not good this year.)

Radcliffe and Groff were incredibly deserving of their wins, but it feels likely that if Merrily hadn't been around this year, at least one of The Outsiders boys would have won in one of those categories. Regardless, thrilled for both of the Merrily wins!

I'm kinda glad for so many award  surprises!  Will Brill! He seemed the most surprised ice seen a winner - like he wasn't even entertaining the possibility of a win! Not happy about Friedman, though... But, boy did Sonia seem pissed!

Thrilled for Groff and Radcliffe, and just seeing their relationship really warms the heart. Can't wait to be at the show on Tuesday.

As to the performances? As usual, a mixed bag. (In no particular order)

Opening - What a snoozer!

Chita - she deserved better

In Memory segment- the best filming of the night

Hells Kitchen - solidified I'm not buying tickets

Water for Elephants - nice, but the opening to it was off.

Tommy - I enjoyed, but we've seen it before. Looking forward to going on Weds.

Merrily - heartfelt, but not outstanding

Cabaret - I felt the same about it as seeing the production...good, interesting

Outsiders - one of the very goods. It changed my son's opinion and he now wants to see it.

Illinoise - broke my heart all over again, so I'll see this a second time when son is at Outsiders! (No need for a second view of that.)

Suffs - dont see a big affect at the box office (but BOY the response to HRC was unexpected)

Stereophonic - I loved the show, but I couldn't figure out why everyone thought they should perform. There was no way a pull out performance of this was going to be exciting. Yes, in context it works brilliantly, but out? There's nothing to show

I probably missed something, so I'll add if I figure it out.

When Patrick Wilson was coming to present, they announced his next upcoming musical “The Lost Boys.” Didn’t even though that was happening. Is it the 25 or 26 season?

Seems like it might be towards the end of 24/25. I think Lorna Courtney has been part of the readings?

Here are my overall thoughts...

Hell's Kitchen's performance was good but was completely overshadowed by Alicia and Jay-Z and turned into a concert of their own. At least Maleah walked away with a win! She has a bright future ahead of her!

The Outsiders once again stunned me with their performance! I am so glad they incorporated the Rumble scene to show that intense choreography! Don't hate me, but the Kuperman brothers were robbed of that Tony. Had Illinoise not come in at the last possible second, Choreography would've been a lock for them! I am happy they won Best Musical, well-deserved. It's gonna be hard to get tickets now with their expanding fanbase. Will definitely try to see it again before I move to London in the fall.

The cabaret performance was as beautiful as ever! If this season wasn't as packed as it was, they probably could have walked away with more awards. I am just happy Tom won for Set Design after being robbed at the Oliviers 2 years ago.

Happy Stereophonic won, should have won more, but at least it won Best Play! Will Brill winning was also a great moment! Also, the fact that they only got 90 seconds to perform was unacceptable and prevented the cast from showing off their beautiful talent! I cannot wait to see it again next month!

While I thought SUFFS had a shot, I am happy Shaina Taub walked out with two awards in hand! She deserves it! Cannot wait to see what else she has in store for the future! Hope it will run through the election and serve as inspiration for people to vote in the fall!

Merrily, Merrily, Merrily! I'm sure Sondheim is somewhere looking down on us, happy and proud to see his once-flop musical become a smash hit! That said, MARIA FRIEDMAN WAS ROBBED! That was truly the shock of the night! Also, don't hate me again, but Lindsay should have won, plain and simple! Daniel's speech was emotional and beautiful! That said, NOTHING could have stopped me from ugly crying for Jonathan Freaking Groff! As someone who grew up not far from where he did, I was so proud to see a fellow Central Pennsylvanian take home his first and long-overdue Tony Award!

Lastly, I love Ariana DeBose, but I think she needs to take a break from hosting duties.

Overall, what a season this was, and I am excited for next year!

I hate to speculate, but based on these results, anyone have a prediction on the first closing notice for this season?

I think something happened last night which I have never seen happen before.

Alicia Keyes STOLE the song from Maleah.  Maleah WON THE TONY. And the composer stepped in and took her best number. So we never got to hear the young lady who WON the award because the composer decided it was best she sing it.  That was AWFUL.  That was a disgrace imho.

Alicia Keys and Jay-Z turned it into a performance about them. Not a fan

I think you need to understand what this performance was about. It was about selling tickets. The shows spend hundreds of thousands of dollars to perform, so they have to put forward the best chance at snagging the most ticket sales. Like it or not, having Alicia Keys’ face in that performance was worth so much more from a sheer commercial perspective. Which is what the Tonys ultimately boil down to.

Now…was the performance successful overall? Not in my book because the execution was so sloppy. A helpful reminder that Sara Bareilles came out for Waitress and people didn’t complain like they are about Alicia and Jay-Z….which is…interesting.

Of the five Best Musical nominees, Suffs needed the big win the most. I think they close this year. Not sure if I'm so bearish as to say Labor Day closing, but I certainly don't think they last past New Year's.

Honestly I’ve seen people posting about Jay-Z being there so it’s getting traction in non-theater spaces which is a big deal. Smart move on their part and I think that number certainly sold tickets.

Do the producers pay more for certain spots on the broadcast? I feel like they had a prime spot.

tell me another time this has happened?   It's new, I believe.  Yes, it's marketing I understand that, I don't need a lecture on what was going on.   It was AWFUL and it set a terrible precedent.  Just more decline in the theatre world. Little by Little. Year by Year.
