What a great great loss. Ab was an amazing actress. She shined in Agnes of God (movie) and was hysterical in Home For The Holidays with Robert Downey Jr (directed by Jodie Foster)
"I want to tell you that Elvis would be proud." I said: "Priscilla, if I get 100 bad reviews, it won't matter because of what you said."
When I was in the seventh grade, I became a Mel Brooks freak thanks to "Young Frankenstein." When I learned more about him and found out that he was married to an actress named Anne Bancroft, I became a fan of hers too. I wrote fan letters to both, and they both sent me autographed pictures. I am so sad that she's gone. I didn't know she had been sick with cancer. What a pity. She was one of our greatest actresses.
This truly is a sad news day... I couldn't believe it when I first saw it. My thoughts and prayers are with Mr. Brooks and family. Hopefully he will be able to keep himself busy with work, I know the two of them were so very close. I wish him all the best through this difficult time...

"If you start from a place of joy and charm, you can get away with a lot in the second act. It may be that that's my life. I'm not sure."

A great lady has left the stage. May God give her peace. Deepest sympathies to Mel Brooks. They were a devoted couple whose marriage was a tribute to love. They were married 40 years.
"And the postman sighed as he scratched his head, you really rather thought she ought to be dead..."
What terribly shocking, sad news. Im such a big fan of Annes work. Torch Song Triloy is my all time favourite film. I hope that Mr Brookes and all her friends and family can take at least some small comfort from the fact that countless millions across the world including myself in London were so deeply touched by her huge talent and spirit. Its just so, so sad in what should be such a happy year for her family. I will cry harder next time I watch those final Torch Song Scenes.
Wether she was 73 or 103 she was wonderful and talented. She was vibrant and classy and intelligent and beautiful. Her beauty never faded. And she will be missed by all of us who loved her work. Brava Anne, for a life well lived.
add my name as a big fan of GARBO TALKS, CHARING CROSS ROAD, TORCH SONG TRILOGY and of course THE TURNING POINT. a very very classy lady. here's to you, ms bancroft!
Oh, my goodness. I read the headline, and almost fell to the floor. One of my all-time favorite actresses, and one of the most beautiful women who ever lived. Such a huge loss.

Each time I log back onto this web site, I read the added tributes on this string and my heart hurts a little more and I start crying again. We'll always have Anne on the screen in her countless wonderful performances. I think it's knowing that Mel has lost his Annie that makes it hurt so much.
If anyone gets these messages to you, Mel - understand that you have all our prayers and support at this terrible time. God bless you and your son and all those who knew and loved Anne.

Rest in peace Anne Bancroft. The thought of Mel Brooks crying makes me cry each time I think about it. We all weep for the loss of a great and moving actress. Let's cry for her loss but also cry for the joy she brought. What an amazing actress, wife, person.
BSoBW2: I punched Sondheim in the face after I saw Wicked and said, "Why couldn't you write like that!?"
Bancroft character talking to Garbo in Garbo Talks, "I've been to Paris. Twice. You got nothing on me there. Of course, you were with Aristotle Onassis and I was with the B'nai B'rith tour." Classic.
She did a wonderful TV special in the late 70's Anne- Women in the life of man. She got to to drama, comedy even sing! So talented & even more obviously dedicated to here family life too.
Favorite lines from Garbo Talks: "Which one of you boys has the electric tongue?...Who wanted a girl to sit on his face?" One of my favorite films of all time - her performance cannot be topped. I weep openly at both Garbo Talks and The Miracle Worker - she was a phenomenal talent and will be greatly missed.
"I don't really get the ending, all i can go with is when after several months,Judith saw Pat sang, and later she kissed him on the toilet, after that the story back to where Pat went down from the stage after he'd sung, and he went to the italian lady.I just don't get it,what Judith exatcly meant when he kissed Pat that she had seen, and did Pat end up together with The Italian Lady? Please help me,thank u very much!"
Quote from someone on IMDB in reference to a movie he/she didn't understand. Such grammar!
This was truly shocking news to me. I truly hope that Mel is holding up well. My thoughts are with him and his whole family during this tragic time. ________________________________________________________________ "If life seems jolly rotten, there's something you've forgotten. And that's to laugh and smile and dance and sing. When you're feeling in the dumps, don't be silly chumps. Just push your lips and whistle that's thing." -Monty Python's SpamAlot
I attended last night's performance of Spamalot, and during the part when David Hyde Pierce plays a bit of piano, he snuck in a few chords of "Mrs. Robinson". It was very brief but it was definitely there and it clenched my heart.
I feel terrible for Mel Brooks, what a great team they were. They were hilarious on the "Curb Your Enthusiam" episode when they parodied the movie version of "The Producers".
She was also in the movie "Point Of No Return" with Bridget Fonda and Gabriel Byrne. I forgot about that one or was it mentioned already?.
