HERE'S TO YOU, MRS. ROBINSON: Oscar-winning actress Anne Bancroft has died of cancer at age 73. She won an Academy Award for The Miracle Worker and earned a place in the pop-culture pantheon as the seductive Mrs. Robinson opposite Dustin Hoffman in The Graduate. Survivors include husband Mel Brooks.
This comes as a shock to me ! A wonderful actress and a true Lady. The world is an uglier place without her regal presence. She will be terribly missed. May she rest in peace
All of his money means nothing . He would give it all away if he could bring her back. After a grieving period, I think Mel will throw himself into working on Young Frankenstein to keep himself busy
Oh my god... I've literally been sitting here with my mouth open, since I saw the headline. I just can't believe it; she was so young. My heart goes out to her family. She was a class act and a true talent. May she rest in peace.

She was so incredibly talented and so incredibly beautiful! My own favorite was a tiny little gem she made with Anthony Hopkins called "84 Charing Cross Road". I know Mel absolutely adored her and my heart is breaking for him.

Well Chita, I think most of us would put 73 at a fairly young age to die, including the name sake of your screen name who is only two years younger. Updated On: 6/7/05 at 07:40 PM
Very few deaths have hit as hard as this one. I just watched (again) in the past 3 months both GARBO TALKS and TURNING POINT, and she is exquisite in both. But I don't think she was ever less than perfection.

Very good point Michael Bennett. In this day and age 73 is too soon to depart this earth. My parents lived to age 83 and 86 and I still felt it was too soon. I am very saddened by this news, as it comes as a complete surprise to me.
What terrible news! My sympathy and prayers go out to Mel Brooks!
