There certainly is a lot of entitlement going around (i.e. KarateKid being the latest offender). Listen to the samples on Amazon and buy yourself a copy.
Mildred, honey, you have excellent taste. I'm really enjoying the vocal arrangements to Blow Gabriel Blow as well.
Oh, the entitlement. If you WANT the hard copy, then WAIT for the hard copy.
I don't doubt for a minute that there are people (probably lots of people) that will claim to have purchased the cd that haven't. I'm sure there are also people that will cancel their advance copy upon receiving a pirated copy.
Unless things have changed: you didn't buy a copy, yet. You ordered a copy. You aren't charged until they ship it.
Until recently, I always wanted the hard copy...then I broke down and purchased one or two things directly from iTunes. That's all it took.....I no longer "need" hard copies. I'm sure some of that has to do with my realization that I no longer have room for more cds...just like I no longer have room for more books, thus my kindle.
If we're not having fun, then why are we doing it?

I hope this runs until I can afford to get to NY! And my friend got to meet Sutton after one of the shows and was enchanted by her. He can't stop saying how nice she is :)
Yes, can someone please give this kid a free cast recording? He doesn't get his allowance for another week an he's just DYING to hear it now!!! And even when he does get his allowance he shouldn't have to spend it on something he can just get for free from someone here!
I think the recording sounds too crisp to the point it makes it sound too artificial. (I guess I have this issue with most recent recordings, which is why I much prefer the OBC of ACL over the 2006 revival)
alfie, i was mostly surprised because sh-k-boom/ghostlight has had a really great track record of late with its cast recordings. oh well, it's not too bad..
My CD came in today! Just reminds me how much I love the artwork and the production design.
"Oh look at the time, three more intelligent plays just closed and THE ADDAMS FAMILY made another million dollars" -Jackie Hoffman, Broadway.com Audience Awards
I deperately wanted to see this production with Sutton, which simply isn't going to happen, so I was thrilled to get the recording. And then immediately disappointed upon my first listen. I don't like the arrangements or orchestrations at all. Was anyone else let down by the glaring absence of strings? Sutton sounds fine, but to me, the whole thing sounds like a little Off-Broadway showcase rather than a full-scale Broadway revival. Maybe it works better in person with the staging and live performances, but I'll probably stick to the LuPone/Paige revival recordings I find much more dynamic and thrilling.
"What can you expect from a bunch of seitan worshippers?" - Reginald Tresilian
Now that I've got the recording, thanks to itunes UK,I just cannot wait to see and hear this next week LIVE. The recording does sound..well like a recording..but it is just a taster of those trumpets, saxophones and trombones that will soar out of a pit. The recording does sound a bit dead..but I blame that on the studio..very dry..no bounce or zing..but there is nothing to beat a big band...and nothing better than hearing it live. Be thankfull for the instruments that are playing..we could have had 3 keyboards trying to be a full string section...as is the way in the UK.
I always think there is a fine line between high quality/precision and sterility. Maybe seeing the show has influenced how I feel about it but I think this recording is a good balance between high quality and resembling what you would hear in a theatre. Listening to the 1987 revival again I think that the low quality and exccessive Reverb of that recording isn't very appealing either.
"You can't overrate Bernadette Peters. She is such a genius. There's a moment in "Too Many Mornings" and Bernadette doing 'I wore green the last time' - It's a voice that is just already given up - it is so sorrowful. Tragic. You can see from that moment the show is going to be headed into such dark territory and it hinges on this tiny throwaway moment of the voice." - Ben Brantley (2022)
"Bernadette's whole, stunning performance [as Rose in Gypsy] galvanized the actors capable of letting loose with her. Bernadette's Rose did take its rightful place, but too late, and unseen by too many who should have seen it" Arthur Laurents (2009)
"Sondheim's own favorite star performances? [Bernadette] Peters in ''Sunday in the Park,'' Lansbury in ''Sweeney Todd'' and ''obviously, Ethel was thrilling in 'Gypsy.'' Nytimes, 2000
