Simply enchanting
I just got an email. Audra is out tonight.

Any idea as to why she was out or whether or not she’ll be out tomorrow?

No idea. I don’t fault her but I got the email at 6:30pm. The other shows I wanted to see started at 7pm so it left me unable to get to them.
Maybe she partied too hard with Oprah and Gayle the night before. <edit: this is a joke. I’m not slagging on Audra. So please don’t come for me>
Do you think she felt like catching a late movie at Angelika or forgot about another obligation? Obviously she did not feel like she could properly execute the performance as needed. There’s very few reasons as to why someone would call out of the show 45 minutes to curtain.

I just didn’t know if it was an illness that prompted a departure.

It's nobody's business why she called out. The show nor Audra are required to explain why she called out.

It is one of my favorite numbers from this revival! Having seen it 5x now, and since 4th preview, I have continually grinned from ear to ear and felt so damn warm watching this number. The trio is so effortlessly in sync, seeming to be having so much fun, and the ease of it, the way it is performed feels like a warm blanket! So glad this is the song for press right now!

Maybe it's just that I've had months to get used to the idea of Audra singing Rose, but her head voice doesn't sound out of place at all in "Together wherever we go." She sounds delicious. I remember Lansbury used head voice in this number as well.

For me, this number is the highlight of the show!
This might just be the hokiest choreography and staging of this number I've seen. Was not a fan of the choreography or the direction of this production. Audra was good acting the role in the musical theater way - but she was not helped by this production or choreography.
When Csolak is choreographing/"collaborating" his own choreography bc it's out of the choreographers "wheelhouse" the rest of the show also feels eh. "The strip" is long and not great. We enjoyed they moved from the original choreography but this choreography wasn't it, or was this production, despite the uneven talent trying to make it work.

These last-minute announcements to me would suggest that Audra is likely unwell (sickness or voice) and she/the team are doing everything they can to see if she can make it on but making the call that she isn't well enough to perform. If she is sick, I hope she recovers soon!
Tonight's performance is canceled altogether, per their instagram.
There is nothing wrong with reducing the number of shows she does per week. Many leads have done it and it's completely acceptable. I know many people wondered how many shows per week she'd be doing when this was announced and the role is a beast.
Sicknesses must run rampant with the number of cute, germy kids in the cast

it's probably sickness going around again and likely not having enough kids to do the show. they did recently add some adult vacation swings.

BettyBoy no one is coming for you.
Not if I have anything to do with it.

The show is in trouble - last week 79% capacity up from 77%. Only 2 other shows doing worse. Now this.

For people who had tickets for today 3/13, when did you get notification that the show was cancelled?
I want to go 3/14, but I'd rather buy a ticket to a show I know is going to go on. We're leaving Saturday, so I probably only have room for one more show.
Thank you in advance!

I think you need to look at other metrics, the average ticket price is still very high. Clearly demand is slowing but from what I can see it’s not about to drop off a cliff or anything (ok maybe this week it will because Audra has been out).
I don’t see it returning to the initial hype demand though without more investment in marketing, tony hype etc.
This same kind of momentum loss has been common I notice in these prestige shows with Broadway stars that are known to a niche audience but not general public (follies, war paint, company etc). It seems to be headed for the same direction.
If history repeats itself that could mean Gypsy does not recoup. But it didn’t in both the last revivals either so doesn’t seem odd.
