Yes, those performances are this weekend - not yesterday and today.

Just a guess, but she decided to spend more time with her husband and the family...that being more important than the show. Again, just a guess.

However, I think Danny is out tonight, from what I've heard.

has Danny missed a show yet? Curious who's on for him? Kober or Joe Osheroff?

Audra is indeed on (and on fire).
Maybe someday I'll write up an actual post about this production. I was positive the first time, but seeing it again (and very close up this time) I think it's even better.

Tryphena’s performances of “Everything’s Coming…”and “Rose’s Turn” are pretty terrific to watch. Audiences are in good hands when she’s on.

Thanks for posting those! I had a chance to see Tryphena last week and thought she was wonderful. Very different than Audra, but I loved her interpretation.

I loved Audra in this, but there's something very satisfying about hearing these songs in full chest voice.

Idk for me personally I found Audra's vocals were of a much higher quality and on more on pitch but not trying to be disrespectful to anyone else, I just really think Audra's vocals were an incredible achievement and they are all I want to hear for the time being.

Don't get me wrong, I cant wait to hear her vocals again on the cast recording.

I don’t know how I feel about the new playbill design:
I wish they would’ve either just kept “Gypsy” or changed it to “Audra Gypsy”.
I also really like the illustration The New Yorker made for this production as it’s very reminiscent of Angela’s cover:

Supposedly they’ve got Heather Headley for a very brief summer stint as Rose, but they’re closing with Audra.

Is that the week of June 30 through July 6, 2025?

I'm surprised there's not more comments on this video.
This actress has ZERO star power that the role demands.
Sometimes understudies are amazing - sometimes they are not. This is a not.

Yeah, this was... Uninspired. It felt like community theater.
Perhaps she was under rehearsed. She wasn't getting Audra's emotion. The vocal had some nice moments, but once she got into shouting territory, she just stayed there.

‘Gypsy’ Revival: Audra McDonald’s Magnificent Take on a Broadway Masterpiece There are few musicals as iconic, as electrifying, and as deeply woven into the fabric of Broadway history as Gypsy. And now, thanks to the luminous Audra McDonald and the visionary direction of George C. Wolfe, a whole new generation is about to experience this masterpiece like never before.
McDonald, a six-time Tony winner, steps into the formidable role of Mama Rose—a part that has been immortalized by the likes of Ethel Merman, Angela Lansbury, and Patti LuPone—and makes it unmistakably her own. Her Rose is a revelation: layered, vulnerable, and fiercely determined. Rather than merely playing Rose as a domineering force, McDonald brings a stunning emotional depth, allowing audiences to witness not just her ambition, but the aching humanity beneath it.
Her voice—oh, that voice!—soars with unmatched beauty and precision, transforming classics like Some People and Everything’s Coming Up Roses into breathtaking storytelling moments. And when she reaches Rose’s Turn? The Majestic Theatre practically shakes with the sheer emotional force of it. It’s raw, it’s desperate, and it’s nothing short of showstopping. But McDonald isn’t the only star shining onstage. Joy Woods delivers a poignant and powerful turn as Louise, perfectly capturing her evolution from overshadowed daughter to dazzling star. Danny Burstein’s Herbie is warm and deeply moving, adding another rich layer to the emotional complexity of the piece.
Under Wolfe’s direction, the production pulses with momentum, carrying audiences on Rose’s relentless journey with thrilling urgency. Camille A. Brown’s choreography reinvents iconic moments with fresh, dynamic energy, while Santo Loquasto’s evocative set design immerses us in the world of vaudeville and burlesque with striking theatricality. This Gypsy is not just a revival—it’s a revelation.
A breathtaking, soul-stirring reinvention of one of Broadway’s greatest musicals, anchored by an unforgettable performance from Audra McDonald. Rush to the Majestic. T
his is the must-see theatrical event of the season. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ (Five out of five stars)

I returned this weekend for the first time since January and if anything I was even more devastated by Audra’s force-of-nature performance. I must say I was taken aback by how manic and screechy a lot of the direction and other performances are. Did I not notice the first time because I was just so overwhelmed by Audra?
