Oh Lord. By "Broadway" you know they mean musicals from the 80s and 90s. You KNOW there'll be at least one Les Mis song, one Phantom song, and one Rent song.....
...and they're all going to end up as stunt casting on Broadway, might as well warm them up for it:)
Can't wait to watch Simon shoot himself in the head over this.
A friend sent me this link from an all that chat post. It says that rights were requested to songs from the following shows:
OK, so I obviously failed at writing riddles (reference to post I made last week).
But since the show airs tonight, the ban on releasing the information to media is lifted.
America hears their Idol wannabes sing Broadway tonight!
I don't know the songs that were chosen, only the shows. You'd think the emphasis would be on recent shows (Wicked, Rent, etc.), but the clearance requests I saw were for the standards:
The Sound of Music West Side Story Babes in Arms Man of La Mancha Pippin The King & I Funny Girl Oliver Camelot
Please...let Anwar sing "Simple Joys" from Pippin, and Carrie sing "Don't rain on my Parade."
I'd expect to hear the "Top 40" of Broadway. Again, it's a good thought, but I don't want to hear that creepy girlfriend beater singing Impossible Dream off key.
I hope so ShuQ. I think he's creepy. I think the judges feel sorry for him and don't give him the most honest critiques possible. He definetly needs to go next.
Broadway - Hurrah! Though one time they did this we were subjected to a rendition of Footloose.
Nikko - Steppin' to the Bad Side? Nadia - Easy to be Hard? Another Hundred People? Bo - Hair? Jesus Christ Superstar? Carrie - Any R&H blonde song - People Will Say We're in Love? Anwar - If Ever I Would Leave You? Vonzell - I Got Love? Ice Cream? Anthony - Miracle of Miracles? She Loves Me? Scott - Poor Jud is Daid? Constantin - Life Is?
from the earlier post The Sound of Music - Carrie doing Lori Morgan's arrangement of My Favorite Things? West Side Story - please not another Somewhere - maybe Bo singing Krupke! Babes in Arms - Johnny One Note? Where or When? Man of La Mancha - Anwar or Anthony singing "Impossible Dream"? Scott singing Dulcinea could be very nice. Pippin - "Corner of the Sky" The King & I - Hello Young Lovers, We Kiss in a Shadow, I Have Dreamed Funny Girl - I thought Mikalah was cut! Oliver - As Long As He Needs Me Camelot - If Ever I Would Leave You
Anthony Fedorov - What you own? - Rent Anwar Robinson - I'll cover you - Anwar makes me sleepy. Dont know why... Constantine Maroulis - Gsthemene (sp?) from JCS Nadia Turner - Everythings all right - JSC Nikko Smith - That Hunter Foster song from Grease! Bo Bice - I can't stand still - Footloose Carrie Underwood - Somewhere that's green Scott Savol - NOTHING - Go home Scott!! Please, go home! Vonzell Solomon - Tough call - Too many good choices.
If they cleared performance rights to those shows -- that's what they will be singing from. The person who posted that list on Talkinbroadway works in licensing -- he knows what he's talking about.
Perhaps, the criteria is "traditional Broadway." I don't think we're going to be seeing any RENT, LITTLE SHOP, HAIR, etc.
I would like to see the contestants perform some of these songs:
"Gimme Gimme" (Thoroughly Modern Millie) "Once Upon a Time" (Brooklyn) "Don't Rain on My Parade" (Funny Girl) "All That Jazz" (Chicago) "Shadowland" (Lion King) "Impossible Dream" (Man of La Mancha) "On My Own" (Les Miserables)

Ryan Seacrest comfirmed on his radio show this morning that the theme is 'Musicals'. I suppose this could include movie musicals as well ("Yellow Submarine", anyone?).
Based on the musicals that they are listed, here is what I think we might see (based on nothing other than who I can picture singing what)...
Nadia does "I Guesss I'll Miss The Man" Anthony or Nikko does "Maria" or Anthony does Edelweiss Anwar does a decent rendition of "The Impossible Dream" Constantine might also do this one...but I'd like it better from Anwar. Carrie does "People" Bo? Geez - not sure 'bout that one. He'd probably rock the house with "Cool"
Can't think of any possiblities for the others...(shows or people!)
The Sound of Music - Climb Every Mountain maybe? I doubt they would do the title song or My favorite things. West Side Story - Somewhere, almost certainly Babes in Arms - My Funny Valentine, almost certainly. Man of La Mancha - Probably La Mancha but maybe Impossible Dream Pippin - Corner of the Sky maybe? The King & I - I have Dreamed, Something Wonderful Funny Girl - Don't Rain On My Parade, almost certainly, but possibly People Oliver - As Long AS He Needs me...it's the most popular tune and one that works out of context. Camelot- I'm not that familiar with this show, but maybe If ever I would leave you?

Please no one sing Somewhere or Maria. same goes for "My Favourite Things" from Sound of Music... There are limits to the traditional Broadway that I can endure...
While we know that Rent won't be there, I found it funny someone mentioned Anthony should sing What You Own. Sure, he lookes like Anthony Rapp, but I don't actually think he could sing that convincingly! He's not angst-y enough.
I'm very happy Pippin is in the mix :) (potentially for Bo?) And I'm curious as to which musical Constantine will choose for this week's lovefest to the camera.
this is so weird.. i just said to my friend in school today "they should do a broadway theme for American Idol"! i'm excited and i hope the contestants dont leave me underwhelmed
I hope Constatine doesnt sing from Rent, I saw him and thought he was rather bad. Id love to see some Dreamgirls in there by the girl whose name i cant say.
