ah yes because tony awards are the ultimate in deciding what is good and not.
I think Porter is a lovely person and often a good performer, but I have to agree his performance in Kinky Boots left me cold. And I saw it at the peak of his performance, a month after the Tonys.

I agree. And I actually think his vocals are weak.
Should have gone to Trunch, hands down.
Bertie carvel was just simply not existant when he was the Trunch

You mean besides winning the Drama Desk and the Olivier for the same role? How was he "not existant"?

i hated this f*cking show.... your tony award winning music and lyrics are compromised of everyone singing "everybody say yea yea" over and over??? mess.

I think jorge was saying that Bertie Carvel sunk into role the so deeply that there was no separation between Carvel/Trunchbull on stage. Seems to be a compliment of a well-crafted performance, no need to get defensive.
I also took it as a dig but I hope you're right. He was magical.

I read it as a dig as well. My apologies if I jumped too quickly.
Bertie should have won hands down. He was incredible. Kinky Boots is simply not great.

Really? It's a common way to applaud an act or saying they "disappeared" within a role. Maybe it wasn't worded well, but the jump between what he wrote and meant was a short I've for me.
But I do SMH at the keaovthiscthread has taken from discussing Brady, to again whining over Matilda's loss. Get over it kids....I'm sure the actors did long ago. Both show seem to have met with similar success, so the awards really don't matter much.

Just that.

Wow this went from discussing Wayne Brady in KINKY BOOTS to a b!tch and moan fest about it's win over MATILDA really fast...

Wayne Brady is the perfect person for this show. When it comes to Carvel vs. Porter, I feel like they gave Porter the Tony somewhat out of sympathy as he was a stage veteran who had ups and downs and winning that really put him at the forefront for Broadway at the time. It was the best gift Porter will ever receive.

And we are still talking Carvel= Porter in the thread about Wayne Brady...

I was there tonight and really, really enjoyed Brady's performance. Thought he blew Porter out of the water and after not caring much for the show initially I was able to give in to the feel good fluff more this time around. (I still don't think the score is great and there aren't enough- or any- stakes for the characters because it's so obvious what will happen from the start, but Brady roped me in and made me care despite the inherent flaws.)
The rest of the cast is doing well, but it's almost eerie how much they all resemble/imitate the original cast members from the leads down through the ensemble. Brady is the only one doing something different from his OBC counterpart. I liked Jeanna de Waal more here than either Waitress or the Carrie revival. Kelso could team up with Stark Sands for the male Side Show revival because they look and sound like the exact same person.
I can't believe I'm saying this about Kinky Boots, but I think Brady's performance now makes this (almost) must-see theater.
I've always thought Wayne Brady to be freakishly talented. And adorable. Whizzer's review almost makes me want to see this mediocre show again. Almost.

Until March 27
Stark and Andy - the same person? Hmmm...while physically a bit, I thought they were very different in the role and had very different styles...Stark having a much larger persona, while Andy gives a quieter more personal performance.

I'm planning to go in January some time to see Brady in this. How were Brady's vocals, as that was my main concern for him in this role?
also, there was a list of scheduled dates Brady is supposed to miss but I can't seem to find that this anymore? anyone have those dates?
