"I just thought she was awful. That's all."
I would point out that she won an Oscar for the role...but ever since "Crash" won Best Picture I've been remiss about the sanity of the Academy.
Well, awards are only valid when we agree with them.

Unfortunately, the Academy Awards are political. So I don't take the winners to heart. It's subjective anyway.
jrb, how do you know about what they're open/not open to signing?

Playbills and Night Music Merchandise will only be signed at Stagedoor. Unrelated Memorobilia for Catherine and Angela can be sent to the actresses vis the stagedoor with return postage. Both actresses are good about singing and returning non-show related memorabilia. You can mail or hand deliver envelopes and packages to the stagedoor.
Besides, its just RUDE to ask for non-show related memorabilia at a stagedoor. Or so several actor friends have told me, its almost insulting. There is a proper procedure for those things, and it is through the stagedoor. And they get & return tons of stuff that way.
I just walked by the theatre this afternoon and they were loading in what looked to be more technical equipment. I wish I could go tonight! But, I'm going to have to wait till Dec. 15th when the student rush is available.
Can't wait to read reviews later tonight!
And no posing for photos with them. I dont wanna say why I know. Someone else prob will.
mywonderwa11--there are a certain amount of roadboxes and stuff that is around until performances start. Nothing new loaded in. They just cleared all of it.
Ah, I see.
And even if Angela Lansbury isn't suppose to pose for pictures, I bet she'll make some exceptions anyway. She's just such a lovely person.

Just watch out for that stage door guy. I hear he is a total d-bag...
He wouldn't even let me stop into CZJ's dressing room to drop off the scrapbook of photos that I printed off of websites on the internet. I spent days on that scrapbook!!!!! WTH?!? I paid good money for my ticket and I DESERVE alone time with CZJ.

I'm flying in this weekend and will see it Friday and Sunday. I saw the 1973 production six times (five of which I couldn't afford) and figure this one should be worth at least two. I'll find a way to deal with the small orchestra. Have my doubts about CZJ, but will give her a chance and hope for the best. I'll be back in February and will be able to see it without her, too. Can't believe I'm lucky enough to be seeing Angela Lansbury on Broadway again so soon after BLITHE SPIRIT! Can't wait!
I love Colleen!
I am so thrilled to have seen Angela Lansbury's final performance in BLITHE SPIRIT on July 19, 2009 and tonight I get to see her first preview of A LITTLE NIGHT MUSIC a little over four months later.
I sincerely hope that Angela Lansbury is on Broadway for many years to come. For a woman, in her 80s, she is in wonderful shape and deserves to be on the stage where she belongs. The woman is a true gem of the earth and it is an honor to see her on stage.
can someone post a scan of the inside of the playbill? The title page?
"I hated her with a passion in the movie Chicago. She acted like, "Aren't I the best singer and aren't I the most gorgeous and aren't I wonderful?"
Duh. What a bizarre thing to point out if you didn't like her -- you've just explained that the way she "acted" MADE her the perfect Velma! That was what she was trying to do -- and yes, that is called ACTING as you've noted.
It's like "I hated Rex Harrison in My Fair Lady. He acted like he had no respect for women." Duh.
Exactly, isn't Velma supposed to be "show off-y"? Whether or not she sang well (and I thought she sang fine), I think her acting was spectacular in the role, and she was a perfect Velma.
I'll be there Friday evening. Horrid seats....but I'll be there! Can't wait to hear what you all think and to see it myself.
I thought CZJ was suprisingly good in Chicago, and played the character spot on.

It HAS to be intermission already! Any thoughts, anybody?!
"Besides, its just RUDE to ask for non-show related memorabilia at a stagedoor. Or so several actor friends have told me, its almost insulting."
This is a serious question and not a snarky one. I have to admit I've never heard anyone say that asking for non-show-related memorabilia to be signed is insulting. Can someone amplify why that would be the case? Assuming that you are sincere and not a dealer, is it offensive to ask CZJ to sign a Chicago DVD or Angela Lansbury a Sweeney Todd CD? (In theory, that is -- if they've announced they don't want to sign non-ALNM memorabilia and you ask them anyway, then yes that is rude.)
I'm on my phone. It was great not perfect yet. Act 2 was absolutely fantastic. Angela forgot some lines and lyrics but was spot on with acting. Zetas clowns was beautiful. Hanson was great and I'm glad they brought him. Davie needs work in act 1 but was vEry good in act 2.
Personally I feel that the performers have just done a live show for 2 hours or more. I think that it is only proper to have them sign things from the show. If you want other things signed, find out how to send it to them and do it that way. And I have heard that some people go to the stage door to have things, other than show related items, signed and have not even seen the show. I don't agree with that. It just adds to the many people hoping to have a Playbill or poster signed after they have just seen the show and are waiting at the stage door. JMO
I'm choosing to believe that we haven't heard any word yet because people are too enraptured to even think about posting yet. Fingers crossed for sheer and utter brilliance. Can't wait to hear! Am trying to decide whether to break down and grab a full price ticket tomorrow or hold off until next week when balcony seats aren't sold out. Oh, the difficult decisions of a theater fan. :)

She acted like, "Aren't I the best singer and aren't I the most gorgeous and aren't I wonderful?"
Do you mean she acted like that in the movie or she acted like that about being in the movie?
I didn't the think the fact Catherine Zeta Jones could sing was up for debate. I can understand not liking her, but I think it's silly to make it seem like A) She can't sing a note and B) It would really matter for the role of Desiree if she could sing or not
I really don't think it's rude to ask them to sign memorabilia not from that show.
Posting on my blackberry, so excuse the scattered nature of this post. The show was very good, but it was definitely a first preview. There are some major pacing issues in act 1. The show got out at 11:10 tonight. Catherine is very good, not great, but she nails Clowns. Angela is a joy to watch and she sheds the cutesy persona. She apparently messed up a few lines and lyrics in act 1, but I didn't notice until ljay told me at intermission. Liasons was spot on. The best performance in my opinion was from Alexander Hanson who I thought was fantastic. The show definitely has potential to be great, but they have some kinks to work out. I will post more when I get home.
