Here Lies Love, David Byrne and Fatboy Slim's immersive disco pop musical inspired by the life of Imelda Marcos, will come to Broadway this summer. Previews will begin on June 17 at the Broadway Theatre, with opening night set for July 20.
Conceived by Byrne, lead singer of the Talking Heads, and featuring a score by Byrne and rapper Fatboy Slim (as well as additional music by Tom Gandey and J Pardo), Here Lies Love won 2013 Drama Desk Awards for Outstanding Music, Lighting, and Projection Design, as well as the Outer Critics Circle Award for Outstanding New Off-Broadway Musical.
The Broadway run will once again be directed by Alex Timbers and choreographed by Annie-B Parson, completing a decade-long collaboration on the project which took them from concept album to the Public Theater to the West End. Once again, the productions will have sets by David Korins, costumes by Clint Ramos, lighting by Justin Townsend, sound by M.L. Dogg and Cody Spencer, and projections by Peter Nigrini.
Timbers's staging will transform the Broadway Theatre into a dance club, where audiences will stand and move around with the actors. A wide variety of standing and seating options will be available throughout the space.
Complete casting is still to be announced. The original off-Broadway run featured Ruthie Ann Miles as Imelda, alongside Conrad Ricamora and Jose Llana.

They're clearly appealing to a younger audience for this show. I can't see anyone over 50 wanting to stand for a Broadway show after paying +$100 per ticket. The seated section apparently aren't good seats.

I loved this show off-Broadway. Very happy it's coming uptown.
I need a better job so i can afford seeing this from a good seat.

I loved it downtown - although, after 20 minutes I longed for a seat. All that standing around and walking became annoying.
I hope on Broadway, they will offer seats and standing tickets
From the Broadway Briefing:
As was the case at the Public, "Here Lies Love" will offer a semi-immersive experience. According to press notes, the Broadway Theatre "will transform the venue's traditional proscenium floor space into a dance club environment, where audiences will stand and move with the actors." Standing and seated tickets will be available "throughout the theater's reconstructed space." Additional details will be announced.

I completely disagree. I saw it the first time from the seated balcony at the Public but at the Shed in London I decided to partake in the immersion. Did not enjoy it nearly as much.
OMG YES!!!!!
That artwork though. I can barely read it up close. How will anyone read it on a marquee?
Oh I adore this artwork. I’m so excited for this and intrigued about the re-configuration of that barn. Part of me feels this would work better with a Great Comet like setup than a full dance floor.
So will they only be using the orchestra level of the theater?
From what I heard previously, they are building a platform that raises to the mezzanine level, and the mezzanine is the only seating section, the rest is standing
Since it's not opening until the summer, couldn't Miles conceivably do both Sweeney Todd and Here Lies Love?

Unless Light In The Piazza shifts again, no

If memory serves, that's precisely what they did for the Hal Prince revival of CANDIDE at the Broadway, though for that production there was seating on that platform. I agree with Betty22--standing for the downtown production became wearisome.
Cool!
This does take some pressure off my planning for my March trip...but now do I use my remaining days off for another NYC trip later in the year?
They are sinking a lot of money into this if it requires renovating a theatre. Hope is plays for a while.
This so exciting! I think this is how I'll celebrate my birthday this year!

But not PIAZZA. And where they moved it for her, it seems that she is extremely committed to it. At one time the word was she was planning to do all 3 shows, but that doesn't seem at all conceivable now.
HLL – 6/17 previews, 7/20 opening
Piazza – 6/21-6/25
How about Eva Noblezada as Imelda?
Yeah, she would have to give up Piazza, and considering that they already moved it for her...I mean, it's a one-week run of a concert version, but maybe she just doesn't want to do HLL anyway. She originated the role like ten years ago and it launched her career...maybe she's afraid of tarnishing her memories of it (and the memories of other people of her in it).
The whisperings I’ve heard said Ruthie isn’t doing this on Broadway. But take that with a grain of salt.
I’m so excited about this. This is going to be the event of the summer, and they will set the bar high for the next Tony season.
Do whisperings really matter when there's a huge shout from City Center saying she's not doing it?

All this sounds too chaotic

There’s no speculation… she’s not doing it. So anyway… excited to see what they do with the space!

If Conrad's back (which based on IG activity seems like a clear lock) I'm not sure a 26 year old Imelda with a 43 year old Ninoy would necessarily work
