David Gordon on Twitter hints: Encores moving PIAZZA w Ruthie Ann Miles to mid-June to accommodate "scheduling conflicts," leading me to believe the rumor I heard about a certain David Byrne musical coming to Broadway this spring. You'll thank me, the Schvitzy Soothsayer, when this is confirmed.
Between this and KPOP, two of my favorite immersive experiences Off-Broadway, I’d be so overwhelmed. If true, this would make my wildest dreams a reality.
Missing this Off-Broadway (despite having moved to the city a couple months before it ended its encore run) is one of my great regrets. I'd love a chance to see it again.
Incidentally, every time i saw this ad I kept thinking, for a split second, that it was an ad for Here Lies Love. Am I the only one?

She would be with Here Lies Love through the Tonys on June 11. Then take 2 weeks off to rehearse and perform Piazza. And then go back to Here Lies Love.
I am hoping this is not a rumor. It's one of my favorite shows. Ruthie Ann was dazzling. Wouldn't it be great if they got Jose Llana and Conrad Ricamora to return as well?

AGAIN, I know nothing, and from what I've heard, I hope this is true, not trying to be that guy who questions a rumor just because
BUT if theyre launching a big Bway show (for which shed surely be in the running for a Tony) it seems nuts to me that she'd keep her Encores! gig and commit to such a grueling schedule-- most take VACATION after the Tony Awards, not dive into a whole new show
BUT if anyones got the strength to do it, its her.

With everything that she has gone through I am convinced that she is a warrior. She can do anything.
I just love her so much - she's one of my favorites. She deserves every good thing.
I loved loved loved this at The Public (hard to believe it's been almost 10 years!) and would be overjoyed to get the chance to experience this - and Ruthie's knockout performance - again.

You’re definitely not the only one! Seeing those ads all summer was a huge tease for me.
“New York City Center has announced new performance dates for Encores! The Light in the Piazza as part of the 2022 - 2023 season. Due to scheduling conflicts, the Tony Award-winning musical directed by Chay Yew and featuring Tony winner Ruthie Ann Miles will run June 21 - 25, 2023 at New York City Center.”

The Broadway theatre seems a tad large for this…

I don't know what the current plans are, but there was chatter pre-Covid about the "Broadway version" of the show being even more immersive than COMET. Like...raising and extending the stage deck way out over the orchestra section with all seating happening in the mezz and in newly-created sitting/standing locations "onstage." IF that is still the plan, it would make sense that they want the Broadway because the mezz is huge. But that was 2019/20 so things might have changed.
Either way, maybe this is finally David Korins' chance to win a Tony.
Which producer is behind it now? Because at different points in its lifecycle it has had different heavy-hitter lead producers attached and nobody has been able to get it to Broadway. Off the top of my head: Joey Parnes, Barry & Fran Weissler, Kevin McCollum, and David Binder, plus the Public and other nonprofits where it played (National Theatre, Seattle Rep).

This just gives me more confidence that it is happening.

Word on the street is that Ruthie is playing Beggar Woman in Sweeney Todd in the spring, then doing Piazza in June, followed up Here Lies Love in the summer (indeed at the Broadway - they can't do spring as they still need to start renovations). Could be a huge year for Ruthie Ann Miles!
