I still think Lysistrata Jones will close before this. It's opening is on Wed.(Dec. 14) and wouldn't be surprised if it closed by the 18th.
A Chorus Line revival played its final Broadway performance on August 17, 2008. The tour played its final performance on August 21, 2011. A new non-equity tour started in October 2012 played its final performance on March 23, 2013. Another non-equity tour launched on January 20, 2018. The tour ended its US run in Kansas City and then toured throughout Japan August & September 2018.
The critics have another notch on their gun . Barring a miracle, they finally did Frank in. We will now have to content ourselves with cast albums from foreign productions
Those who cannot create must destroy is the motto for most critics these days. Whoever will they kick around now. I hope Frank comes out & blasts these hacks with both barrels. He has nothing to lose now.
Let's see, Mr Roxy. You regularly make jokes about Wildhorn in thread after thread. Lately you've been on overdrive with the references, whether appropriate or not. Perhaps because "stick a fork in him/it/her/them" is so played out. You always say the critics have it in for Wildhorn, and you always know you're going to find something redeemable in his shows when you go to see them.
So I challenge you to read Michael Feingold's review, since he is the best theater critic writing in New York. Note the points he makes, and how it's not just the weird Brantley blather that passes for theatrical reviews nowadays. What do you say when somebody who knows his stuff writes a review like this? Is it really JUST bullying or are those hack critics you hope Wildhorn blasts not the only hacks involved? Robbers, Killers, Power Ballads
Up until yesterday the local radio station was playing BONNIE AND CLYDE ads several times an hour. It was really becoming annoying. Anyhow, it all stopped as of yesterday.
It appears two things are likely in play here... First, didn't Reidel tell us that Jeffrey Richards, one of the lead producers of B&C is also the lead producer of the upcoming production of THE BEST MAN, which is vying to obtain the Schoenfeld for its run; and secondly, Jeremy Jordan's agent is probably trying to get him back in NEWSIES, but needs to commit him to the production soon.
It seems the B&C producers decided before opening that if the reviews were again them, then they would not try and make a go of it; would not invest additional funds for advertising and other methods to keep the show running.
I haven't seen the show, but I can imagine how this must feel for those who are fond of it. I assume it will have a healthy post-Bdwy life in regional, community and international theaters.
Finding Namo: Actually Mr Roxy is a Wildhorn fan, as far as I know... (awkward)
This could actually be the end of Frank Wildhorn on Broadway, minus a revival(s) of Jekyll & HYDE (which is in the works). He's working on Zelda (formerly "Waiting for the Moon"/the Fitzgerald musical); once again, which will re-premiere in the fall of 2012 (being billed as "Broadway-bound").
Looks like Japan will be the new joke of his productions, where DRACULA played (and was filmed) with a female in the title role, Gold (formerly called Camille Claudel) is playing now, and Bonnie & Clyde in January.
Is there any other reason why a show will stop selling tickets? Is there ANY hope these tickets could be resold? I just really don't want to see this show close so soon, it's such a special show. I'm completely heartbroken right now, and hoping there might be another explanation for this. If the show already know they are closing the 30th, why haven't they announced it yet? I'm hoping they are waiting for a reason. *sigh*
I am a Wildhorn fan. To bad NAMo has no sesne of humor. Never has & never will. I wonder if he has even seen B/C. I still have no use for critics. Did all these people learn their craft at the Learning Annex course on being a critic. What qualifies one to do it. When one of these yahoos writes a score than they will be qualified. If people now have any doubt about a vendetta against Wildhorn, I have a bridge I would like to sell them.
6 shows & 6 pans. Even Stevie Wonder could see the bias. They have done their job. They have kept Broadway safe from the scourge of Wildhorn.
They need to being in the buttloads of people that Memphis does. Unfortunately, That takes lots of money and time. Two things that are almost gone. If you know someone with a boatload of $$ forward them over to the Bonnie & Clyde producers!
Otherwise this show is this year's Scottsboro Boys.
So sad for the cast and crew. It's always depressing when a show closes too early, especially in this environment. And I'm so sad I'm going to miss ever seeing this show! By like a week too!
