(And even if Rogers doesn't win, which doesn't seem likely at this moment, they really need to marketing her as a star-is-born, must-see performance far aggressively than they are)."
I think they are guaranteed nominations for costume, lighting, choreography, and Jasmine at the very least. I've also seen several Instagram ads using the headline from the NY Post review ("A Broadway star is born") so they're definitely starting to lean into it a little.

Pretty sure Mr Showbiz was just a Flash in the pan.
Seeing it this coming Thursday, so breathing a sigh of relief they are keeping the April Thursday matinees.
I had tickets for the Thursday May 1 matinee. I read online that ticket holders for May Thursday matinees were getting cancellation emails. I did not receive an email and there was no notification in my Telecharge account, but that performance no longer appears on the calendar.
I called Telecharge and was told they were not notified that the May 1 matinee was cancelled. However, as the friends who were accompanying me could not make it any other day, and as I pointed out the matinee no longer appeared in their calendar, they allowed me to cancel for a refund and purchase new tickets for the evening performance.
Hoping I didn’t screw up because the matinee tickets still show up in my account. Definitely don’t want to see it twice in one day! LOL

Now, spare the troll comments and"they are back slurs", could not care less. This show was a longshot to begin with. yes, it is good, and the star is really good, but dated material, zero marketing power and lack of real word of mouth. Evidence is in clearly in tracking the next 3 weeks, half empty houses dictate this Boop! has no Bop!"
Oh. The person who attended opening night but missed the show because they screwed up on their whole fabricated story is back. Nice to see you are back attacking Boop. At this point I highly doubt you have even seen the show.
You have lied about this show and those involved from the get go. Do you think anyone here really cares what you have to say? I Feel both sad and sorry for you that you needed to fabricate/lie about this show to be what relevant?
Victoria Byrd is making her Betty debut this afternoon!

BLAH, BLAH, BLAH. Darling, facts are facts. As we don't live together, know each other, or have an air tag on me, your claim of me lying is laughable and stupid. Regardless, we all welcome the diversity of opinions even ones that are vapid, childish and without merit. Bye Bye Hussy!

I saw it again - and found it very entertaining - it. is full of joy.
That is Huss your talking too. There is only one Hussy. Get your BS straight.
Saw the show yesterday and found it fun and charming but I essentially agree with Jesse Greene's review about the show's purposelessness. I am baffled by the show's treatment of Betty Boop as a modern day cultural icon, when I don't know a single person who considers Betty Boop to have a huge cultural footprint. When one thinks of "classic cartoons" Betty is fairly low down the list after Disney, Looney Toons, Popeye...even Droopy Dog - her most prominent appearance in recent media, unless I've missed something, is WHO FRAMED ROGER RABBIT, where she was portrayed as out-of-work and struggling, and that was 30 years ago! I'm a huge animation nerd, and i love old Max Fleisher cartoons, but I just don't see them being universally beloved the way the show portrays them. I would buy a plotline about a lonely, orphaned teenager glomming onto Betty Boop as a personal hero, I do NOT buy the city of New York instantly recognizing her as a whole and treating her like a beloved celebrity. The more the characters talk about how Betty Boop is a symbol that means so much to so many people (she's strong, she's sexy, she's brave), the more I hear the marketing department influencing the writing.
My reaction, in part, may be due to catching the show at it's first performance without Jasmine - Victoria Byrd was on as Betty, doing a very credible job. She sang beautifully, acted well, danced beautifully and landed the comedy, but the show's marketing has been so star-centric that I came away feeling like I missed something. Stephen DeRosa was also out, and while his understudy was very capable, his delivery didn't land. There were things I really liked (really liked the leading man, the kid was great, Erich Berger was a blast in his one number, and the choreo as a whole was utterly delightful)

DAME is the one and only HUSSY. One might say the grandmama of BWW. mrshowbiz, the only thing worst than a troll is a sloppy troll.

For me a person born in the 80s, yes to Roger Rabbit, probably was how I was introduced to the character, also Chistmas Vacation with the actress who played the aunt, who voiced her, also if memory serves me there was a comic strip with her and two or so tv specials..and Im sure there were shorts and other ways of seeing Betty Boop, though for me the hysterical version would be the short lived mature animated series Drawn Together, which uses parodies of characters, like superman, pikachu, betty boop, spongebob etc. Regardless everyone still knows Betty Boop, and the ones interested will definitely see it, the ones who are fans of David Foster will definitely see it.

I mentioned this before but Betty Boop has a large theme park presence at Universal Studios around the world.
I saw the Thursday matinee with Victoria Byrd, and thought she was absolutely magnetic. Would I go back to see those I missed? Possibly. It's the most fun I've had at a new musical since "The Prom", even more so than "Death Becomes Her", even though I thought both understudies did incredible jobs in that. There's something about the enthusiasm of those going on for the stars that they want to make an impression, so they give 150%. The sets, costumes and choreography are absolutely wonderful, a modern take on the traditional style of musical theater, with the subtle messages presented in a way that makes its point without lecturing. It was nice to see Faith Prince in something after a long absence, and she got a nice round of applause for her entrance. Her duet with Grampy deserved an encore, reminding me of "You're Timeless to Me" from "Hairspray". The young girl is absolutely adorable, funny and smart and charming. I hope to see Victoria in her own vehicle. She was obviously having a blast. There's a tall male dancer who does some amazing high kicks, showing how someone in the chorus can stand out, yet not take over focus. I've got a few other new musicals to see to judge on this season (enthusiastic of going back to the theater after a lengthy break), but I would be delighted to see this get nominated for best new musical.
