That seems highly unlikely -- especially if it's a Broadway flop. Who would the target audience be -- nursing homes?
"

I hate to say that that is a key demographic of road houses, but that is a key demographic of road houses.  Also, the Chicago audience who saw it as part of their subscription season seemed generally pleased by it via the word of mouth I heard.

Good article on Betty Boop's history. This may have been posted already. I looked but may have missed it.

That's fair enough, of course. I still don't get how she and McDonald form some kind of natural class that will "split votes" (like the three featured actresses from Fun Home).

I don't think it is being implied that they are in a "natural class". It is based on their performances. And if Jasmine is as good as people are saying, she may get a lot of votes causing a split between Nicole and Audra.

Will Boop make it to the Tonys? I'm not saying this to sound snarky I just genuinely don't know if it can...

"You can't overrate Bernadette Peters. She is such a genius. There's a moment in "Too Many Mornings" and Bernadette doing 'I wore green the last time' - It's a voice that is just already given up - it is so sorrowful. Tragic. You can see from that moment the show is going to be headed into such dark territory and it hinges on this tiny throwaway moment of the voice." - Ben Brantley (2022) "Bernadette's whole, stunning performance [as Rose in Gypsy] galvanized the actors capable of letting loose with her. Bernadette's Rose did take its rightful place, but too late, and unseen by too many who should have seen it" Arthur Laurents (2009) "Sondheim's own favorite star performances? [Bernadette] Peters in ''Sunday in the Park,'' Lansbury in ''Sweeney Todd'' and ''obviously, Ethel was thrilling in 'Gypsy.'' Nytimes, 2000

Both Gypsy and Sunset have basically built their entire productions around their stars, and the stars generally deliver (depending who you ask), which is why there's been such a binary split for Leading Actress consideration.  Jasmine Rogers is definitely the most hyped part of Boop, but she hasn't been built up as much in the marketing and press as either Audra or Nicole, though perhaps that narrative will change.  Either way I do still find it unlikely she'll actually win but I would be very very shocked if she weren't nominated at all.

Mr. Wormwood said: "bjh2114 said: "Mr. Wormwood said: "My point in saying I hadn't seen the show yet was that I wasn't commenting on the quality of the performance. I'm just saying it's a crowded field for Lead Actress and Boop isn't doing very well and could be closed by the Tonys. That's why I think she doesn't stand a chance of winning. I still do think she'll get nominated but a snub would surprise me less than a win would."

And my point is that you're doing an awful lot of projecting based on absolutely nothing. To be honest with you, with the reviews she just got, it would be SHOCKING if she was snubbed. The nominations are announced 22 days from now. This isn't a situation where a show closes in the Fall and is forgotten. The show will absolutely still be open by the time the nominations come out, and she absolutely WILL be on the list. Yes it's a crowded field, but she's in the top 3 women in that field without question. But again, you not having seen the show is clearly not allowing you to understand what kind of performance she is giving. Right now, I'd give her about a 20% chance of winning the award (with a roughly 40/40 split between Nicole and Audra). There is a ZERO percent chance that she isn't nominated.

Google says David Foster has a net worth of between $100-150 million.  He's not even the lead producer as far as I know.  It will run as long as they want it to.

WaPo reviews both Boop and Smash. Positive on Boop, not on Smash

Two bombshells hit Broadway, but only one ignites

“Boop!" makes a fresh star of the classic cartoon, while “Smash” banks on the rhythms of background television.

https://www.washingtonpost.com/entertainment/theater/2025/04/10/boop-smash-broadway-review/

"As the cartoon vixen sprung to life in “Boop!,” Jasmine Amy Rogers gives the most sensational star-making Broadway turn in years — funny, captivating, a total knockout. It would be impossible to take your eyes off her if the rest of the production, directed and choreographed with maximalist razzle-dazzle by Jerry Mitchell, weren’t such an eye-popping spectacle."

Next season perhaps we will have a new musical about the rise and fall of Mr Showbiz, the Phantom of the Boop.

By that logic, Bad Cinderella should still be running today.

BOOP has canceled most of its Thursday matinees and moved to either a Sunday evening performance or two shows on Wednesday. This is not a good sign.

A Chorus Line revival played its final Broadway performance on August 17, 2008. The tour played its final performance on August 21, 2011. A new non-equity tour started in October 2012 played its final performance on March 23, 2013. Another non-equity tour launched on January 20, 2018. The tour ended its US run in Kansas City and then toured throughout Japan August & September 2018.

I saw that too and was disappointed. I had booked a Thursday matinee in June, which would have given me an extra time slot to see a show that trip. Fortunately I was able to get the same seat for the same price at an evening performance.

I get the sense, could be wrong, that 'Boop' is the fresh new version of the old classic broadway style musical 'Some Like it Hot' was trying to be.

That’s a shame, because a Thursday matinee next month was the only way I was going to be able to fit the show into my schedule.  More shows (that I want to see) need to have Thursday matinees!

Some Like It Hit was infinitely better than Boop. Better score, better book, better design, better Choreography.

the only Thursday matinees left are April 17 & 24. the haven't filled in their schedule for certain weeks in May & June. odds are they likely add a Wednesday evening instead.

Me, too, but I did not have another slot, so I won't be seeing it.  Disappointed.

I liked SOME LIKE IT HOT a lot better than BOOP (and I liked BOOP a great deal).

BOOP might be a more universal show but it also requires a level of explanation. As a title, SLIH meant more and had better critics' reviews. BOOP is opening in a crowded time where you have multiple musical comedies and other shows that appeal to its two target demos (older people and families).

Pros and cons to both, but until numbers dictate otherwise I don't really see BOOP lasting 14 months like SLIH did.

I think Boop needs a Best Musical nom- or at the very least, a performance slot- and/or a win for Jasmine Amy Rogers to last. (And even if Rogers doesn't win, which doesn't seem likely at this moment, they really need to marketing her as a star-is-born, must-see performance far aggressively than they are).

Very bummed to get an email notifying me that Betty Boop's Thursday May 8 matinee — yes, Thursday — has been cancelled, and my ticket refunded.

A Thursday matinee of Gatsby last year was how I was able to cram a sixth show into what would have been a five-show trip.

I still have a couple of open slots but this season is so rich that I've had trouble narrowing down my list. And now I have to decide if one of the remaining slots is going be Boop. It sounds like eye candy and great fun, and god knows I (and must of us, I expect) could use that right now

I've done my own checking to no avail but if anyone knows of other shows with Thursday matinees or otherwise irregular performance times heading into Tony season, please shout. Thanks!

Weird that they don't settle into a "normal" performance schedule (mats on Wed, Sat, Sun) until post-Tonys and they have 2 different schedules prior to that. Impulsively futzing with the schedule is not a harbinger of success.
