Maleah Joi Moon is a star and if you had bothered to see Hells Kitchen, it would have been obvious.
With all due respect, I’ve been seeing shows on Broadway since the 1970s and continue to see shows even today and even though I’ve seen the shows you referenced, I still have no idea who she is. I do remember her Tony Award win when it’s mentioned but then she blends into the background again and forgotten until her Tony Award win is mentioned again.
Her talent is glorious but she has yet to make any type of impact to merit being called a “star.” Heck, even the mainstream masses have no idea who Audra McDonald or Sutton Foster are even when their acclaimed projects on TV are pointed out to them.

Boop! Me (The Cut Review)
"I, too, loved it. I did not think of taxes or deadlines or impending fascism, I thought only of Betty Boop and that heart-shaped garter I’ve coveted for nearly 30 years. Now, when my mind goes blank for the sake of self-preservation, I can fill the silence with a shrill “Boop!” And while a musical about a cartoon flapper isn’t a perfect salve for everyday horrors, it’s a necessary injection of joy. It’s not unlike giving a cherry sucker to a toddler after a traumatic doctor’s appointment: Boop! doesn’t take away the pain, but for over two hours of technicolor spectacle, it makes everything hurt a little less."

“Industry folks are saying Lea Salonga’s Roses Turn outshines Audra's. Trust that it’s not just this board. Remember, Tony voters are also voting towards their own interests. Y’all really don’t like to make space for new stars. Noted.”
Industry folks are saying …??!? That is such crap. Which industry folks? Your source? I know we’re living in a time of “alternative facts”, but this is ridiculous ! And, without question, the dumbest thing I’veon this board in some time. And industry folks agree!🙄
Hold it! “Y’all really don’t like to make space for new stars. Noted” I could actually be dumber. Not because it reveals your agenda but because it’s categorically untrue.
You’re making things up again, Arnold. Get some sleep — or you’ll be a wreck in homeroom tomorrow."
I know some of you make this board your entire personality, but take a deep breath. It’ll be okay. You’ll survive. God forbid someone has a non favorable take on here. I can’t make up things that are told to me, whether you were there to hear them or not.
So cut it with the name calling and find the mental capacity to deal with a varying opinion without insults. I believe in you. You can do it.

The show needed good reviews, and very happy for Jasmine, who surely will get a nom.
But to even think anyone outside Nicole or Audra will win the Tony is... a stretch, to say the least.

Yeah, I post once every 4-6 weeks. Maybe. So your attempted dig at this board being my personality falls flat.
But, for someone upset at name calling, your condescension isn’t much better. I’d argue that it’s worse. At least my disdain is honest.
Also, heads up! There’s a pop quiz in Algebra today!

Are you done? You feel smarter? Baby get all her feelings out? Maybe you should only post every 4-6 weeks, keeps the conversation sensible and adult. You’ve taken us so far off topic and you have nothing to add. I said what I said based on what I’ve heard. I’ve seen all three performances and Jasmine is the most memorable.

‘Boop! The Musical’ Review: Betty Gets a Brand Extension

Because it is. The content of the review is undeniably mixed.

Yeah it's weird because Green says he loves the performances, the music, the choreography then goes off into a weird tangent about merchandise pricing and him being mad the show was created in the first place.
DanS3 said: "Isn’t Nicole, technically, new blood? I mean has she won a Tony?"
I was thinking the same thing. She's making an extremely buzzy Broadway debut. If there's some natural division between "traditional choice" and "newcomer," she's quite obviously on the same side of the line as Rogers, and would logically split votes (if that even means anything) with her, not with McDonald.
Now let her do the talk show circuits and a good Tonys performance and they’ll be golden.
Scherzinger is a newcomer to Broadway, sure, but not theatre and certainly not the entertainment industry. She's less "new blood" and more "blood transfusion."
Meanwhile, Jasmine Joy Rogers doesn't even have a Wikipedia entry (yet).
The Tonys seem to have favored first-time winners for most of the major categories in recent years. In my mind, this could mean new blood or a highly respected, overdue stage veteran.

Will be interesting to see how this does.
Betty Boop is not even really a millennial cultural staple.
Seems like the kind of musical that would have come out in the 90’s.
Big Risk. Word of Mouth is gonna have to be the driver for this one.
Why not open this during Christmas?

Where’s Mr. Showbiz? Still looking for the after party?
I haven't seen Boop, I hope it is still playing when I come this summer and would love to see Jasmine.
I think she'll get nominated.
But of the less likely possibilities, I think there's a better chance she gets snubbed for a nomination than that she wins the award.

Gotta open when schedules align for creative team and theatre. And opening before Christmas means having to survive the brutal Jan-March corridor. Spring feels like the most logical time to open.

Haha this is a very bad take, especially considering you haven't seen the show.

My point in saying I hadn't seen the show yet was that I wasn't commenting on the quality of the performance. I'm just saying it's a crowded field for Lead Actress and Boop isn't doing very well and could be closed by the Tonys. That's why I think she doesn't stand a chance of winning. I still do think she'll get nominated but a snub would surprise me less than a win would.

You’ve taken us far off topic, but I’m going to continue doing so as if I’m not.
I’m THRILLED you liked Jasmine! I adored her in Boop.
But who are the industry insiders? I’m quite anxious to hear. I’ll wait.

That seems highly unlikely -- especially if it's a Broadway flop. Who would the target audience be -- nursing homes?

Who said it’s a Broadway flop? The touring houses will be courted when they come for the yearly convention soon.
