Bumping the thread since performances begin tonight! Excited to hear some reports-- especially if there are any changes from the licensed script/cast recording, or crowds/insanity level and if there's any merch?
I have a friend attending tonight! Hopefully if anything insane goes down tonight she’ll be fine with me passing it along here. I’m not a big fan of the show, save for a couple of songs, but I’m sort of sadistically hoping we get some DEH/Spongebob/Heathers craziness from all of this.
God, the almighty and all-knowing, has misplaced a cup?
I talked to a few fans (bad decisions...) And here's the rumors I heard: - Katlyn confirmed there will be changes to the book as well as a new song - Expensive Headphones and Boyf will be Canon? - (this is def true, I saw this) the merch booth is at the bookstore and the show. - Salazar gets more parts. I'm not sure if these are true besides the merch, from the June event but still.

Setting aside that I've purged all the ship names from my memory, I'm assuming at least part of this is "Jeremy/Michael is canon." So, wait, what about it is canon? That Michael is definitely gay and definitely pining after Jeremy? Or that they actually get together at some point in the show? Because the fact that pretty much every action Jeremy takes in the show is driven by a desire to date Christine, the latter would require an overhaul of the entire plot, which doesn't really fit "some changes to the book and maybe a new song."
https://imgur.com/a/BcsUgNl The merch booth is up. The sweatershirt is $50 and the tee shirt is $25??? Kind of overpriced
Update: shop just opened. There is a beanie, a baseball hat, vinyls (maybe special edition?), And CDs. I spoke to the merch booth that said the producers are "shipping windowcards, cups and a few more items like keychains and smaller items that will not arrive here until mid August". If anybody has a will to get an exact list without looking suspicious, it would probably be helpful to some.
Been reading all the posts and just don't get this talk about being worried or if something insane goes down...the stans, relentless crowds, insanity and GIFTS!?
What's the deal with this show? This looks and sounds terrible and o so amateurish from watching the released video.
I don't get the attention this show is getting so please fill me in. TY!

Sunday in the Park with George
A very succinct explanation is that Be More Chill is a show about high school losers who, through circumstances (sort of) out of their control, become involved in crazy events-- plot-wise, it's is basically halfway between Dear Evan Hansen and Little Shop of Horrors. Since the show is set in high school and deals with issues that affect young people (popularity, friends, being true to yourself/peer pressure, etc.), with a modern-sounding pop/rock score, it has a big appeal with a certain age demographic. Like Phantom and Rent before them, and now Dear Evan Hansen and Heathers, it's the hot new musical popular with teenagers and young adults who are just learning about obsession.
ETA: I think it's also an issue of scarcity. The show has had exactly 1 professional production (its premiere in NJ in 2015) and a smattering of amateur/school ones since R&H released amateur rights, so people's familiarity with the show is based mostly or entirely around a cast album. They're probably excited (at best, and desperate at worst) to see it performed live.
Well I didn't want to get into it, but he's a Satanist.
Every full moon he sacrifices 4 puppies to the Dark Lord and smears their blood on his paino.
This should help you understand the score for Wicked a little bit more.

"Expensive Headphones" and "Boyf" are two of the names the fandom has given their "ships," which is basically the fandom imagining two characters being in a romantic relationship. By saying that either of the ships are now "canon" means the book has been revised so that the two characters in question are explicitly in a relationship.
ETA: "Boyf" (the full version is "Boyf Riends" based on a joke from the show) is shipping Michael and Jeremy. "Expensive Headphones" appears to be shipping Michael and Rich.
The orchestra put is open, the stage is open and the staff are very strict about phones. Hella boots will be coming probably though. Have fun, management. (I'm not making one I saw a bunch of stuff on social media about it though.
UPDATE NEW SONG IS ACT ONE FINALE CALLED "LOSER GEEK WHATEVER". Shows about to start.

Barf! [that's short for "barf"] Starting to regret my ticket purchase...

Aww, I like Upgrade. Have fun to all who are there tonight!
I watched some of the animated youtube videos kids have made for this the other night, & this seems like a fun show. Wish I could see it, & I'm 45. Totally could see them changing the end so that Michael & Rich end up together. Only thing I could see potentially wrong is George Salazar is starting to look a bit long in the tooth to play a teenager. If something a silly as Avenue Q can have such a long life, I don't see why this wouldn't have potential.
Each post reinforces that this show is not for me. I need the urban dictionary just to understand these posts!
If we're not having fun, then why are we doing it?
These are DISCUSSION boards, not mutual admiration boards. Discussion only occurs when we are willing to hear what others are thinking, regardless of whether it is alignment to our own thoughts.

The show we saw at Sacred Heart U didn't have anything us old-folk might find hard to follow. I did think it needed a major revision though--like, just the book writer going through things one or two more time to clean things up. There are a lot of fun songs so I'm hoping to see a cleaner version in August.
Some things. Will's new song is good kinda but his vocals are weak at the beginning of he show. Also Michael is hella gay with a rainbow patch and has two mom's. Rich makes out with a male ensemble member I cannot identify during upgrade. Michael tried to kiss Jeremy in two player game after the favorite person scene. All in all caters to fandom A LOT. As for audience... Some people sang with the first song, squip's song, and upgrade. Girl in front of me with rainbow hair kept dancing and doing choreo. Not the best but they're doing the best they can. (Also she's like 18 so IDK why she's doing that??)
Same here, Gink. I don't want pandering to the fanbase. Confirming that Michael's gay is nothing, but going in for a lip lock with Jeremy during Two Player Game? Yeesh. I can't imagine how that's choreographed to make sense but I'm sure the Fandom will eat it up.
