My college is doing Be More Chill this fall. I just hope people behave professionally at auditions. That shouldn't be too much to ask.

More than likely this is a short run to consolidate the fanbase/boost the profile of the show and give people who wish to produce it at their high school/community theater group a frame of reference on how to do so."
If you read/watch pretty much any interview with the cast/creators, you'll learn that they're definitely making changes and improvements to the book/score. Nothing major, though I've heard rumblings of a new song. And Joe Iconis has explicitly stated that he would love for the show to go to Broadway. It's a commercial run--they want to make money off of it, not just advertise it for licensing.
They could keep the licensed script/score as is, or they could update it. There's precedent for both.
This show is so ridiculously terrible. Just flat out garbage with one of the worst fanbases that I have ever seen. Everything about it is just lame and immature from the score to the book, top to bottom. I'll definitely be staying away from this one like the fricking plague.

I was not aware of that! Now I'm intrigued. I'm going toward the end of previews so hopefully it will be close to frozen by then.

Very happy to hear they are making changes--the whole book felt like could use a few more revisions to the book especially the end. I'm looking forward to seeing it again, despite the flaws there is a lot of fun.
Getting worried. When they first became available, I snapped up a couple of tickets in Row A - based upon having enjoyed his songs when heard in a cabaret context, and knowing that it was "a hot new off-broadway show." I've listened to the score, and although I'm getting real tired of the social misfit in high school stories, it was OK. (I also make it a habit to listen to recordings no more than twice and to not follow too closely to all the lyrics, so I'm somewhat familiar with the songs, but am still surprised by aspects of the story and lyrics.)
However, I'm 62 and my husband is 69, and we've grown into our curmudgeonhood. I'm getting apprehensive. (Perhaps being in front, with much of the possible nonsense behind us will be a good thing).
On a related topic. As I mentioned above, I'm old. It's become increasingly tough to keep up with lingo and online terms... Could the enthusiastic fans be called "stans?"

Some of the Be More Chill fans can absolutely be considered stans.
We are going this Sunday evening, July 29. There are 5 of us but it is sounding like 2 of us don’t want to go, so I may have 2 extra tickets. I’m not sure yet. Please message me if you are interested in buying them at face value, if available. They are good seats. Cheers
Updated On: 7/23/18 at 03:31 AMI will be in NYC Aug 10-18, if anyone has a ticket or six, let me know :) they’re all sold out on the site and stubhub has nothing. A group of us will be in the city from Iowa and most of us are interested!
YouTube played a big part in growing the fan base.
The song "Micheal in the Bathroom" drew a lot of attention.
The show was recommended to the fans of "Heathers" and "Dear Evan Hansen."
Some have joked that musicals about "teenagers who hate themselves" attract and inspire like minded fans
("Mean Girls" has joined that list.)
Most interesting to me is the rise of fan animatics. Fans will illustrate storyboards to play along with the songs. One artist has created animated cartoons of three numbers that are of very high quality. I haven't seen many musicals inspire this type of creative project.
This one is a personal favorite;

Regarding the teen fans wanting LGBT content I'd be curious how they'd react to a new production of "Zanna, Don't!" They'd probably enjoy some of the songs but hate the cop out ending.
As mentioned elsewhere on the board a "Love, Simon" musical (or an adaptation of the lesser known "Were the World Mine" would please this audience to no end.

PM'd you!
This show has a crazy amount of "stans" and they are quite relentless. I can only imagine the stage door for this show will be a nightmare.
Also, the rehearsal clips looked abysmal. I know we can't judge too much from those, but I was shocked by how clunky it looked. And George Salazar is beyond overacting that Michael in the Bathroom.

I'm glad to see I'm not the only one who doesn't know much about the show and is a bit worried about the fans. My sister saw this show when it came to New Jersey last fall. She said she's never seen anything like it when it came to the fans. She said it was insane. And that was a show with a totally different cast! And that stage door was a mob.
She did really love the show though so we bought tickets for the off Broadway production for next week.
I'm excited to see what all the hype is about. Hope the two of us aren't the only ones who aren't teenagers there.

Just told her what I posted and she told me to add that she has seen Hamilton stage doors and dear Evan Hansen and newsies all on broadway and this was the craziest stage door of all.

The Hansen door was somewhat hellish on Ben's last night so... I'll take that as my cue to stick near security at all times. No matter what. Is it bad I'm almost expecting somebody to get injured because of this? Or mildly pained in one way or another by fans.

If Zanna Don't got a new production I'd be first in line, but I totally agree with you re: teen fans. I'm pretty far removed from teen fans but when I was in college that was my jam. I'm still a little obsessed with it (and Bat Boy, those are my two "obscure" musicals I'd love to see live).
I tried listening to the cast recording once, but only made it through a couple of tracks. It sounded like a project for an undergrad theatre major exam. I might try giving it a second chance, but not any time soon.

Admittedly I’ve only listened to a few, but I do think the lyrics of “The Smartphone Hour” are super clever and catchy.
I would think they would use a back exit to leave for this one because every time I've ushered there, the cast just exits the same lobby & stairs as the audience. There is no way to cordon off an area that allows them a way to leave down those stairs without them getting mobbed. I'll be ushering early September, hopefully the really crazy people will have gone by then.

The stans will find a way...

Honestly watch the stans do before spying and dooring to find these people. Have they not heard of fan mail? I remember at the meet and greet they had security, so maybe it could be like Hansen where Roland had straight up run back, switched costumes and ran out the front door into a car and drive as fast as possible since all the fans would be at the real door and not the front door. I'm not sure if that usually happened though, because that day was particularly crowded.

I’m seeing it late August, Row J. We bought tickets because I LOVE Joe Iconis’s writing. Personally, I’ve listened to some of the songs and I’m really not a big fan. Maybe when I see it my opinion will be different, but I really hope the stans don’t ruin it for me. I’m fine with people being fans, but when they’re crazy at shows and singing along loudly(which I could see happening during Michael in the Bathroom) that’s when I get a bit annoyed. Hopefully Stagedoor isn’t bad. (I know it’ll be bad but I stagedoored the last show of Les Mis so I’m prepared for a huge crowd)

Exactly how I felt - except I tried 3 or 4 times to get through it.
I LIKE Joe Iconis' music, I find it humorous and often with a heart. I love going to his cabarets. I oft reccommend some of his songs to my students looking for something different. However, after seeing a few of his musicals, I 'm not a fan of the wole package. It all comes off a bit "jr high" feeling to me.
I'm looking on Tumblr's tag (to get a sense of the audience) and well... The 2 things I see from people going to the show are gifts for the actors at the (non-existent) stagedoor, and call-out posts talking about how to behave. Maybe it'll be slightly calm? These gifts are massive though so... And as well as the door.
