RIP Beaches, you sucked.

1. You can disparage the show. I didn't care for it either. It's how you engage in criticism that myself - and another in this thread - took issue with. When it's just fodder for relentless jokes, it seems gleeful. And I'm never gleeful that colleagues are out of work.

2. I'm not going to bother reading the private message you sent me. You can say whatever you want to right here in public.

3. Please, for all of us, grow up.

Why? She’s dead and so is the show

1.) Is there any real shot of this being preserved with a cast recording, not that it deserves to be, but from a posteriority standpoint, I’d think the producers would want to record it to strengthen its future licensing prospects for regional/community/high schools…

2.) Given the enormous flop this was on Broadway, and the insane amount of money investors lost, is the plan still to send this show out on a non-equity tour?

They could do what The Addams Family did - rework (again) for the non-equity tour, and use a soundboard of that cast for licensing rather than a proper recording.

I am big. It’s the REVIVALS that got small.

Goodbye BEACHES.

An album is essential for licensing. A cast album of this scale would probably be $300-500K, possibly more. Shady business but they could wait however many months to record it, then call it a studio album to pay everyone a bit less.

Being that one of the lead producers is a tour booker, I still do expect this to tour if they can scrape the cash together.

If this does tour, the best case scenario is that the producers can get it booked in a few houses where it can ride the coattails of the Tony-nominated titles and established hits in a season subscription. But it's certainly not something that is going to spur a lot of sales on its own and I doubt many touring houses are going to be clamoring for it. It'll be a "well, we have a slot and there's nothing else" option. Or, it'll end up in smaller arts centers that are less theatre-focused.

It’s safe to assume Vosk and Barrett won’t be part of this tour, whenever it actually kicks off. The show closed about 4 months earlier than scheduled so there’s a huge gap open on everyone’s planned itinerary. No one is logistically just going to sit around and wait until things start moving forward, whenever that may be.

Beaches can tour if things like Clue or The Bodyguard are touring.  There are a lot of tickets sold to season subscribers who buy a whole package.  Most people aren't reading up to see if something was a hit or not in New York.

I think something like Oh Mary! is more of an outlier, where in a few markets it was made an addition to the subscription package because those markets know that if it was included they'd be dealing with a lot of complaint emails & calls afterwards from more conservative audience members.  They probably learned their lesson from booking the recent Oklahoma! revival.

Those same audiences will probably eat up Beaches no matter how bad it might be.

The difference is that Clue and The Bodyguard did not have disastrous Broadway runs with bad reviews and bad word of mouth, nor did they start in a massive financial hole. Touring audiences aren’t rubes- they know what’s going on on Broadway. Beaches would likely have been in a much better place had it just simply toured.

Apparently America’s Sweetheart is off her Lexapro again. She spent her entire Memorial Day weekend flying all over these boards insulting and condescending to anyone and everyone in sight.

Yep. It must be exhausting being her.

it is more than safe to assume

that tour casting will never happen in a million years

it is doubtful that a tour even happens

but if it does expect it to be non-eq at worst

or equity tier 19 at best

the good news is they built a tour set already… and just put it on a broadway stage.
