It puzzles me how obsessed and excited this board is for dozens of people to become unemployed. The show isn’t great. We all know this, but chill out. Go touch grass. Breathe outside the theater bubble. Would you want a bunch of people guessing when you’d be fired? Humanity much?

It's puzzling someone on this board doesn't want a new show to come in that will give others a chance to be employed, and for this group to be able to seek more secure employment. Humanity much?

Nice try, idiot. There’s no show lined up for the summer. Theater works on availability. And Beaches is limited, so it had the theater for a certain amount of weeks. Nice childish comeback, makes you look real stupid.

There's only one person in this post here using words like "idiot", "childish" and "stupid" .

How does that make you look?

People are snarky and rude on these threads all the time and you all expect folks to applaud at your cunning come backs. I don't care about how "I look." I made a statement about people's livelihoods and a joke was made in response. How does that make you all look? It's funny to make a mockery of actors and shows, but not fun to be called out. That's actually exactly what you all are doing to these people who give you something to talk about.

You want kindness, but you spew out pettiness. So I will meet you where you are. If you're being stupid on purpose then yes you are an idiot.

Incorrect. I live for thoughtful discourse and a lot of people on here enjoy saying sly comments for applause. I'm meeting people where they are. Don't blame me.

No one publicly moralizes in quite the same way as theater people. What is it about our industry that attracts such insufferable prigs?

We are not "excited" for the show to close. Jesus.

When it's obvious that a show isn't doing well, it's just a matter of time before it closes. Why the producers keep funnelling money into this to keep it open is dumbfounding. No Tony nominations, poor reviews and a bad word-of-mouth. There's no reason this should be staying open outside of giving the cast and crew a paycheck.

A Chorus Line revival played its final Broadway performance on August 17, 2008. The tour played its final performance on August 21, 2011. A new non-equity tour started in October 2012 played its final performance on March 23, 2013. Another non-equity tour launched on January 20, 2018. The tour ended its US run in Kansas City and then toured throughout Japan August & September 2018.

The industry is built on the idea of show turnover and it is understood that when a production cannot do sustainable business, it closes. This needs to stop being treated like a tragedy.

Agreed, but I still don't wish anyone to be out of business because of my dislike.

Yeah, we understand the way the business works. Many of us much better than you. People losing their jobs deserve empathy, not cruelty. You talk about these situations like the people involved are disposable. It shows how far you are from the reality they’re living, and the embarrassing lack of empathy and respect you have for the people who keep this business running.

while I'm certainly not celebrating anyone being out of a job, there is clearly no way to save this show. Most of us are simply curious why they are delaying the inevitable.  Actually, i'd much prefer they put this out of it's misery so that the very talented cast and crew can quickly move on to other projects that stand a better chance........ my ultimate hope is for Ms. Vosk to move over to the Lunt, and perhaps prevent Death Becomes Her from closing as well

Thank God someone with compassion speaks. I know ushers and front of house folks attached to these theaters. I agree shows need to be better. But the chomping at the bit in anticipation of closings is so very middle school.

I love how you lead with a gentle little disclaimer and then immediately say something ten times colder. If you’re going to contradict yourself that blatantly, at least have the self‑awareness to stand in it instead of pretending you’re being humane. The cherry on top is the ridiculous suggestion that Jessica could improve the DBH box office.

Vosk is heavily featured and pull quotes on the positive reviews critics gave her are all over press stuff for BEACHES and those haven’t made a single needle move on ticket sales. Sadly, this simply validates her name has zero power at the box office of any show. The show itself must bring in the audience. She’ll give the performance audiences want but her name isn’t recognizable to the average fair weather Broadway show attendee.

Is this really the hill you want to die on? Defending this God-awful trash fire of a show that never should have been produced on Broadway to begin with?

I think Kad is just taking the emotion out of it. It's a business, as you obviously know. I have seen no one, this entire time, gleefully excited that people are going to lose their jobs. Please point me to any poster doing that. And if you work in arts you know how unstable, fleeting, and tough it can be. But this show is closing and people are allowed to talk about a Broadway show on a Broadway message board whether it's thriving or dying.

I could say the same for Titanique but it got in because theaters were open. Beaches is not a great show, but am I rooting for it to close when there’s no other tenants to take its place before its limited run is due to end, no.

I’m not dying on a hill. I’m asking people to be mindful and not completely mean over people losing their health insurance and jobs when the show staying open hurts no one. Some of you enjoy being heartless because you don’t make a living from this. You only take pride in coming on here to trash. I know friends who do.
