iluvtheatertrash said: "Once again, the folks who "love theatre" have shown just how much they love it by celebrating and mocking the failure of a show, which leads to unemployed artists and tech. So much "love"."

Loving theatre does not mean loving every show. Just because some of us think that the show is a mediocre insult to the artform doesn’t mean we want everyone involved with this specific show to be destitute. They have been very lucky to be employed for 6-10 weeks so far (depending on when their contract began) and each day it continues running is a win for them.

Broadway is not a jobs program. When one show closes, another will open, and it will employ nearly the same number of people—not those exact same people, but different and equally deserving ones.

Are they posting the closing notice today?  Or are the producers going to try a keep this thing on life support?

A Chorus Line revival played its final Broadway performance on August 17, 2008. The tour played its final performance on August 21, 2011. A new non-equity tour started in October 2012 played its final performance on March 23, 2013. Another non-equity tour launched on January 20, 2018. The tour ended its US run in Kansas City and then toured throughout Japan August & September 2018.

They won't hold out until next Tuesday when nominations are announced?

It's hard to imagine the production receiving any nominations, except maybe for Vosk -- and even that is iffy at this point.

"You travel alone because other people are only there to remind you how much that hook hurts that we all bit down on. Wait for that one day we can bite free and get back out there in space where we belong, sail back over water, over skies, into space, the hook finally out of our mouths and we wander back out there in space spawning to other planets never to return hurrah to earth and we'll look back and can't even see these lives here anymore. Only the taste of blood to remind us we ever existed. The earth is small. We're gone. We're dead. We're safe." -John Guare, Landscape of the Body

Matthew Hardy on his YouTube channel "Bored and Confused" said he thinks the people behind the show just want it to go on tour to make money for them. Targeting fans of the films. I hate that. He was being very nice about the show but he really went in on it and {nicely} thrashed it.

But the musical isn't the movie. it would bomb on tour as well.

A tour is not free money. The odds are better on the road than on Broadway, but it’s still a fully separate capitalization. The Broadway entity will get a few percent, but if the Broadway production earns $0 then that’s a huge hole to fill one drip at a time. Same with licensing. The show might actually do okay with licensing, but only if they record a cast album.

The only thing they can be hopeful for is licensing for regional productions. The show has a small cast and would be relatively affordable to put on, but with no cast album it's going to be very tough.

Not necessarily. The mainstream masses are unfamiliar with Broadway though they have heard the titles, which are basically the huge selling points on touring shows. They are unaware of the gossip and a show’s history, etc. This tour will attract fans of the film, which is enormously loved. Of course, they’re in for a big surprise when none of the songs from the film (aside from THAT one) are in it, but then it’s too late. Same situation happened to those who saw the revival of FUNNY GIRL which had songs not in the film and of course, the omission of “My Man” was the biggest upset both on Broadway and on tour.

The amount of people online who needed it explained that My Man was added for the film and wasn't in the stage version was huge.

In one of her concerts just before she went into FG, Lea made the comment,  just before singing My Man, that because she would not be singing this every night on Broadway she would sing it for them then. Some people convinced themselves that because she said she wouldn't be singing it EVERY night she would be singing it some nights not others.  It had to be explained to them that Broadway shows don't work like that.

So yes, I think a lot of people will turn up expecting every song from the movie and for Bertie to be called Hillary and be disappointed.

The fact that this couldn’t sell tickets even before disastrous word of mouth and negative reviews suggests the title is not a sufficient draw alone.

yes you have a point. I was a teenager when the movie came out, it was a hit but that was a long time ago and I've not seen it in high rotation in streaming services in Australia,  not sure about the US, so you'd have to mostly see it as nostalgia for ( and i hate to put it like this)  women of a certain age.

This. One million times over.

I adore Beaches. I adore musical theatre. I adore Jessica Vosk.

Do I want to see a Beaches musical featuring Jessica Vosk? Nahhhh.

It just doesn't scream out for a musical adaption. When there are so many amazing movies that DO scream out for a musical adaption I'm not going to waste my time on ones that DON'T (I'm looking at you Karate Kid and Devil Wears Prada)

Its quite apparent now that they’re holding on until the Tony Award nominations are announced this coming Tuesday morning: May 5, 2026. Their last attempt at marketing the show on social media was a week ago (6 days ago, to be exact). They’re simply running on fumes right now.

They’ve made 4 instagram grid posts in the past 24 hours and I’m served with a “Vosk is mother” or “Beaches is girlhood” ad every time I open Facebook.

I don't know how there are not calls from inside demanding it close - I find it shocking that they are willing to wait it out to may 4. if they follow a two week notice from there it'll almost be the long weekend
