"They did average over 1,000 people per performance last week (8,345 total). But that was partially high due to opening night being nearly sold out."
I was there opening night with a friend. We were in the center rear mezz and had an entire row to ourselves, as did the two ladies in the row in front of us. I'd say the front and rear mezzanine combined was about 2/3 full, and that might be generous. It was definitely not even close to being sold out on opening night, which was kind of sad to witness, to be honest.

When sales are this bad, that would not help at all.
I just don’t think the masses want to pay to see it - at any price.
It’s an impossible situation when a show has houses that are so poorly filled with paying buyers, but can’t even break even without an almost-full house at an average price of $80.

Funny how it went from “We are absolutely not the movie” to “here’s some stuff from the movie”.

Jessica is really doing the most right now. This kind of makes me sad because this single song is better than the entire musical score.
too bad they couldn’t have gotten Otto Titsling into the show.

It feels exactly like something Big League would produce

The lead producer of this show is a tour booker who specializes in non-eq. So I think it's basically guaranteed to tour.

Ah, yes -- great strategy; remind people of what they're not getting in the production! Brilliant.

Given how badly everything else in BEACHES, A NEW MUSICAL is directed/designed, I'd actually love to see how Lonny & team would have messed up "Otto" if it had been added to the musical.
I've always felt Lonny was a competent-but-not-amazing director, but I certainly never expected him to stoop to this level!

That video feels like Jessica going rogue and giving fans what the creatives refuse to. It’s a clean middle finger to their preciousness about their material that isn’t landing. Good for her.

Can’t forget this gem from several weeks ago:

Markets have to want to book the show (i.e. believe they will make money off of a show) to book venues for a tour. A lead producer being a booker doesn't mean he has any sway with presenters.
The way this has crashed and burned, there is no guaranteed tour and it'll be lucky to get its license purchased.

I think this will be a hit on senior cruise ships and nowhere else.

Dinner theater.

I'm not sure i even see it doing well on cruise ships or dinner theaters because it's such a bummer of a story

Oh, those crowds love safe tear jerkers and the cast is small enough to make it feasible. I'm not saying it will be good, but it could find its niche.

Redwood announced it's closing 24 hours after the Tony noms last year, so I expect something similar here unless Jeff Bezos wants to swing by after the Met Gala to give them the billion in between his car seats.

The 24 hours is shy, we gotta give it some encouragement to come out.

Dumbfounded they haven't announced a closed date yet.
