Beaches reviews — Page 5

I’m sure (or at least I hope) they’ll paper the hell out of it but I can’t imagine looking out from the stage and seeing that.

They are papering, but it seems to be very under wraps as I don’t see it in the usual places. The producers are likely are extremely embarrassed as to how this is going and, given the ass-kicking they got in the reviews, aren’t likely willing to give out tickets to potentially allow more bad word of mouth

The only thing that causes people to avoid beaches like this is red tide.

This is the type of thing that casts grumble about when the goin' gets tough. A little thing that makes a big difference is making sure the house doesn't look embarassingly empty. It's a morale killer, especially for the final show of opening week.
Even if they triple their sales over the next 40 hours, that house will still look empty.
Meanwhile, the scroll of quotes on their website has two from Broadway.com, an outlet that doesn't write reviews and is owned by their own co-producer, John Gore.

they should just tell everyone in the mezz to move down to the orchestra. I can't imagine that they don't announce their closing on Monday.

is there anything coming in next season that is capable of filling the Majestic and having a decent run?

The Full Monty revival if they get a name?

Roundabout is producing and it will play the Haimes.
Purple Rain or Dreamgirls?

I just realized that this is the second collaboration between Mike Stoller and Iris Rainer Dart...
...the first was The People in the Picture.

Hmm. This one was pretty big, too. Donna Murphy was Tony nominated (only nomination the show received, though). It only ran from April to June 2011 as a limited engagement and closed on its scheduled date so it ran as intended at Studio 54. As they say in Guatemala: “que paso con BEACHES?”

Once again, the folks who "love theatre" have shown just how much they love it by celebrating and mocking the failure of a show, which leads to unemployed artists and tech. So much "love".

I didn't like Beaches. So I've got no skin in the game. But it's theatre. It is literally theatre. The definition of theatre does not change because you don't like a show.

This is a Broadway message board. You are in a particular thread for a show that is pure garbage. People are allowed to discuss it and what caused it to fail. In fact, many of us showed concern for the people involved in our reviews, including myself. Show business is brutal, and everyone knows it. I have seen NO ONE mock anyone who will be unemployed so you can stop your holier than thou bullsh*t.

What do you want people to do, roll around on the ground and cry? Every season has its flops, that's the nature of the business. It's the responsibility of producers to ensure that the shows they're bringing to Broadway don't immediately implode and put everyone working on them out of a job.

You can discuss a show being bad and its closure without it being gleeful, relentless and cruel.
And sweetie darling? You're one of the most repugnant and loathed people on this message board. Spare me the lesson in message board etiquette.
