Blake doesn't like to be filmed either. There used to be a video on Youtube of a girl filming the cast (asking them a question) and he put his hands up, covered his face, told her that he didn't want to be on film because he wasn't comfortable with it but she. kept. on. filming. It was horrible. Updated On: 6/12/08 at 02:59 PM
At least those Anthony Rapp girls realize that what they were doing is stalking. That sad fangirl at the SA stage door doesn't realize there is anything odd about her behaviour.
Achangeinme -- you make a good point. She does NOT think there's anything odd about her behavior & I suspect it's because she gets a lot of positive reinforcement from her friends & fellow SA fans. There's a huge group of them who spend a lot of time & money on SA. For the most part, they are harmless, but that doesn't make it any less oppressive.
I'm sure this cast (esp. the younger members) enjoy the attention to a certain extent, but having to deal with it 8 shows per week must be wearing.
What really scared me about this video was some of the comments at the bottom of it. One person said that it was pointless to make a scrapbook because often at times the actors don't know what to do in those situations and sometimes after they have a laugh at the gift givers expense. Yet, once the girl read that she tried to justify it by saying that it was Blake's first day and thus that made it okay. Really, there is nothing about that video that made what she did okay.
If your surrounded by people who think and act the same way you do with regards to the same show. Of course your going to think that its okay. Even though it isn't. The person who posted thi s video isn't going to realize that what she did is freaky because everyone else around her is doing the same thing.
I remember shy over a year ago I used to really be into Rent. This was still the point where the rentehads were as rabid as they were now. I didn't like the way that they behaved and thought that it was wrong and rude for so many reasons. I felt a little like I was at a school cafateria. All the stalker Rentheads who felt like they knew the entire cast personally and gave them freaky gifts etc were at one table. While I decided to just calmly see the show literally talk to no one. Get some autographs and go home. And it felt like I was sort of sitting in the corner at my own table.
Even though there was a period of time where I was into Rent. I did everything that I could think of to not associate myself with the typical crazed Renthead. Only because that was not who I was and that is not at all who I wanted to be associated with.

atleast she wasn't like screaming at the top of her lungs...but i do feel bad for her. she definitely doesn't know what she was doing was out of wack at all.

I watched this the other day. While I understand the obsession the show evokes (I'm currently mired in it but limit myself to online stuff), the actions of the girl are a little creepy. It's nothing new, though. Has anyone ever seen the rabid fans hanging out at the studios where soap operas...excuse me...daytime dramas...are made? If an actor from a popular show is accessible, you will find fans there doing all manner of inappropriate things when the stars come out. Soap fans are the worst.
Stage door doesn't have a filter like fan mail offers, to weed out the cheesy/creepy gifts and cards. I guess if the actors were really worried or bothered, they could ask for more security, or slip out another way.
As a side note, has anyone seen Kyle Riabko's video plea to meet "his Princess" Amanda Bynes? LOL! See...fan obsession can swing both ways.
winston - I had a completely similar situation, not with rentheads but with the Josh Groban fans. I am a big Josh Groban fan and decided to go to a meet and greet organized by the Grobanites before his concert in LA a few years back. These people absolutely terrified me. They were so invasive and spoke of him as if they not only knew him, but were his best friends. There was also a girl who had a tattoo of Josh's face on her arm. I got the hell out of there because I did not want to be associated with people who confuse being a fan with stalking. Not my cup of tea.

Legally_popular, it was this random woman recording Jonathon Groff and two other SA girls walking down a block and crossing the street, and being really excited while doing it.
I understand what your saying about how a fan would react if they were at the studio of a soap rather then a Broadway show. You have to realize a couple of things. We are talking about two different animals altogether. A TV studio of any kind is going to have security of some sort. That isn't true of all Broadway theatres. The only time I have seen security at a theatre and there wasn't any major movie star in the show is when the cop is just happens to be on the street. They aren't there for any particular reason other then that the block that the theatre is on is a block that they are covering.
Also, Broadway theatres are a lot easier to find then a TV studio. For a show the name of the show is right on the building for all to see. A TV studio not so much. I think that for a show like spring awakening, even though the hype it gets is not deserving at all. You have to be very careful. Even going ga ga over a show on a message board is a bit much. Anything that the so called "guilty ones" do is stalkerish and crossing the line in many different ways. And, it is very sad that they can't realize that.

popular_elphie- Perhaps they were fans of him from Lost, or from his other works?
Not only was the "fan club" creepy, that girl was SO rude and demanding they say something for youtube and then talking over them. I love stage dooring Spring Awakening, but this is just so disgusting.
taylorphenomenon - I can't say for certain why this girl would go after Blake on his 1st day, but I've often seen people do it to get in on the ground floor, so to speak. If they can be the 1st to grab an actor's attention, then the actor will notice them when they return and maybe give them preferential treatment. I didn't say it wasn't sad....
Ok. I will be the first to say that I see nothing wrong with stage dooring a show you see more then once. And, if you do the actors are going to notice you. It's just how it is. But, to act in such a manor where you want to get noticed particularly in what will turn out to be a negative way is just sad.
I can assure you it is the calm people who stage door more then once who stand out in the actors mind. Not some fangirl who acts all hyper just because an actor is leaving a building. That is just a cause for you to get laughed at and rightly so.
StateOfJade, what do you mean by saying that I was the creepiest of them all. As I said, the only show I ever was into for a decent period of time that has a freaky fanbase just like Spring Awakening has was Rent. And, as I have said time and time again I did whatever the hell I could to distance myself from the crazy Rentheads.

I agree. I am 18 and I hate looking at the fangirl crowd and thinking that that is what teens are like at Broadway shows. Don't get me wrong. I am happy that theatre is being enjoyed by a much younger crowed then it used to be enjoyed by. But, can't they enjoy it without making asses out of themselves and freaking out actors in the process?
