^I'd say that is perfectly fine but do let everyone know when they arrive this is what you are doing, and that only one of you is in the line when you are buying the tickets.
I think it's fine to switch around people in line as long as you're not adjusting the number of tickets being purchased. I often switch off with my bff of who can get in a rush early and who can meet up later but only when it's 2 per person tickets. We did catch me a few weeks ago and some girl asked us if we'd buy her a ticket since we were each only getting one, we were first and second in line. Obvi we said no and when we explained how immensely unfair that would be to everyone else in line she seemed to get it and walked away.
I can't believe people would do that! and think it's ok!!!??? My bff and I are doing SRO for BOM on saturday. we are getting there crazy early and you better believe I will be on the look out for cutters! unacceptable!!!!

I am planing to get there at 6 or 7 on a Saturday morning in August for the matinee, do you think that will secure a spot?
well no telling what it'll look like by then. on saturday we are planning on getting there at 8 and I'm hoping/assuming we'll be first or second in line. It sounds like this week the FIRST people in line are getting there at 8ish

Emily, are you the girl who went to get that huge GYPSY poster signed? If so I really love your vids as well. :)
Do you think the SRO seats will be easier to acquire July 4th weekend (in particular the Matinees)?

I will likely be much more difficult to get tickets on a holiday weekend.
Holiday weekends are tourist filled hell in this city. If anything it will be even more difficult.

But do they want to do SRO the hellish tourists? Especially with ADD laden kids.
I like the idea of the wristbands. They used to that for Chicago when I rushed the show in its early years. I got there at like 6am and like an hour before the box office opened they got our wristbands so we could line back up. It gave us an hour to grab breakfast or whatever and come back. And the listed us by number and number of tickets needed, so that no one could sneak a plus one in later.
My friend waited from 8 am-6 pm yesterday for SRO tickets and was 3rd in line.
Something's telling me Jersey Boy type of incidents will be occurring with SRO. Let's hope a few bad apples won't get it taken away from everyone!
I waited in the SRO line at 8 am yesterday and am glad I did because some screwy stuff with people joining their friends was happening a few people behind. Fortunately someone confronted them about it. Wristbands are completely necessary at this point.
I truely witnessed organized chaos yesterday at Book of Mormon. I was passing by the theatre at 4:30 and figured I'd try and watch and see if the cast came out after the matinee. I wasn't looking for autographs, photos or trying SRO or the lotto; I was just taking everything in. In front of the theatre was about 500 people trying for the lotto. at the same time the matinee crowd was letting out and people were heading to the stage door. this caused the SRO "line" to be moved into whatever lump in front of the outside box office.
Between people trying for the lotto & SRO to the crowd letting out and waiting at the stage door it literally looking like there was over 2,000 people outside. It was so bad numerous people had to spill out into the street. Not sure how security kept the SRO "line" in order but I'm sure the "line" didn't return to its original order. And do we have to bring up the Jersey Boys' SRO issue?? This might get as bad as that if the BOM people don't change the SRO policies. Wristbands - yes, or do what most shows do and sell SRO when the box office opens at 10am and have some kind of monitor there for anyone arriving early(like Jersey Boys eventually did). People shouldn't have to get up with the sun and wait 8-10 hours to stand for a 2 1/2 show, I don't care how good it is.

Why not just have the SRO spots as a second half of the lottery?

SRO on Tuesday must have been really crazy, because after waiting in the SRO line for both last Saturday's matinee and this past Wednesday's evening show, my experience vis a vis the policing of the line could not have been more different. When I went on Wednesday, there were at least two people from the theater around the line at all times making sure no last-minute friends joined, and while some people joined late to wait in line with friends, when it was time to actually buy the tickets they made sure that the only people who went up to the window were the ones who had been there the entire time. Hopefully this puts some people at ease about not needing to worry about getting there extremely early. Definitely make sure, though, that if you're planning on waiting with someone and hoping to get more than two tickets between the two of you, that you both get there at the same time lest you have to spend six hours waiting in separate parts of the line for your tickets.
Also, my experience with SRO for Wednesday--I'd planned to be in the line at around 1 or 2 (for the 7pm show), but was in the area at 12:30 and thought I'd pass by and check out the line. At that point, it was extremely long and while I assumed most people there were waiting for the matinee, someone from the theater told me that the line was for both and it was probably too long for me to get an evening spot. I tried anyways, and sure enough, most people either got a ticket for the matinee or cleared out when they couldn't. I probably ended up getting the 16th and 17th or so tickets out of the 28. So, don't get dissuaded by a long line on a day with a matinee.
I never would have thought that I'd brave this line twice (and in the same week) only to stand twice and see this show, but it was entirely worth it. Get there early, stick it out, and you won't regret it.

Also, I am so incredibly glad that they don't put the SRO spots in with the lottery mix. SRO is such a fantastic option, because it lets people who are really committed to seeing the show have a sure-fire way of getting in (provided they can wake up early enough). Lottery is such a crap-shoot, and for people who are only in town for a limited amount of time and can't show up every day to enter (I met someone the other day who entered 35 times and hasn't won yet) it is an accessible way to see an amazing show.
Plus, the view is fantastic and Wednesday at least was nowhere near as chaotic as people's descriptions of past experiences portray.

Ok, so if I wanna do SRO for next Weds. matinee, I should get there by around 7 am and won't be able to get the ticket til 1 p.m.?? I live in DC but am willing to do this...
While I agree that a system involving wristbands needs to be instituted to preserve the order of the line, they're not going to sell the SRO tickets when the box office opens.
By keeping it to where you can't buy them until close to curtain, they're doing the best thing they can to prevent what happened with JERSEY BOYS and their rush policy. The less time potential scalpers have to sell the tickets, the less likely they are to attempt to.
