Not exactly 'bad' for the second week of January, when shows usually take a hit after the holiday travelers have gone.

BROADWAY IS BACK!! Its hard to imagine any show lost money last week, outside of the non-profits and maybe Take Me Out.
I am over the moon that Ohio State Murder's seemed to play to packed houses its final week on such short notice.
Kimberly Akimbo's word of mouth is clearly paying dividends and is truly turning into the little show that could.
Some Like It Hot also seems to be recovering nicely after a very slow start.
Considering many thought that both of these shows would have to dip into reserves to make it to awards season, I am amazed both are holding their own in the dead of January. I know this was also a "holiday" week, but still we have yet to see the massive fall off we typically see post December holidays .

I still can't believe how Lea Michele completely turned around the box office of 'Funny Girl'. If someone told me five months ago this would be in the 'Top Five' box office shows for mid-January, I would not have believed them. I would think her 'honeymoon' period would be over by now. (Credit to Tovah, too !)

It warms my heart to see 15 out of 29 Broadway shows trend upwards in total gross during a dead-of-winter week.
Granted, 6 of them closed on Sunday and it was a holiday weekend, but still encouraging.

A great week considering that we're definitely not in winter break season anymore.
Akimbo and Some Like it Hot both having their second best weeks is a fantastic sign for them. I always believed in Akimbo (and believe that David Stone plans for the show to be open on June 11th whether it's making money or not), but I really thought Some Like it Hot was in, well, hot water. Definitely seems like they're both in a much better spot now.
It also seems like there were a lot more New Yorkers and/or Bridge-and-tunnelers seeing shows this week. With the exception of Piano Lesson, where Sam Jackson wasn't in this week and it still turned in almost $900,000, all of the shows that saw a decrease in grosses from last week were touristy shows with most of them being long-runners. Also with the exception of Piano Lesson, every show from this season saw an increase in grosses from last week. That's pretty incredible.
Without the 6 closing shows (especially Music Man), we're about to see the topline numbers crash, but let's hope shows are able to keep powering through this winter!

I am very encouraged to see the grosses this week! In my many years of watching these numbers, it is surprising and heartening that so many shows had such a good week in the dead of winter/January! This does bode well for the future, I think/hope!

I'm surprised to see that Chicago only played 7 shows.

Pretty great week overall especially considering we are now at the start of the winter slump. Exciting to see both KA and SLIH climbing. Fingers crossed they can keep that momentum. I'll be curious to see the spike in numbers for Chicago next week now that Jinkx Monsoon has started.

Well, this is a welcome surprise. Any theories about why this week bucked the expected trajectory for second week of January grosses?

I tried to get tickets at the box office on Sunday for 4 different shows (all musicals), just a pair of sears together-NONE of then had 2 seats together, even at premium price. The city was packed this weekend.

A STRANGE LOOP having a sell-out final week AND breaking the Lyceum box office record on their last week of shows. 🥹💜

Staggering. That's a movie star. And hell, that's probably better than a movie of his would do now.

Before Music Man extended two weeks, Beetlejuice was supposed to close a week after them, thereby getting the last laugh.

This is awesome! Did MUSIC MAN recoup? I don't recall reading any announcement but I understand the producers don't need to make it public.

Happy to see the upward trajectory for Some Like It Hot & Kimberly Akimbo. They feel like they're headed in the right direction. I'll be curious to see how they hold up in the winter months. It's typically a tough time as we know but there's also so many shows closing which could help them.
Congrats to The Music Man on a great run. I was a little underwhelmed by the show but it was the big fat Broadway hit that was very desperately needed at the time it arrived.

Came here to ask this exact question. I have to assume that even with the massive budget & COVID related expenses, they at least broke even.

Since Covid, has any production reported recoupment?
It feels like producers aren't announcing it anymore. I think that's very classy, but as someone who loves to know financial information about Broadway...I'm tacky and want to know!

Am I the only one confused by all the Some Like It Hot praise? The show only made $60,000 more than last week and most of that $$$ probably went to the local 1 department heads!
