All that said, I'm surprised that engagement is supposedly remaining "strictly limited," with a new Barrymore tenant to be announced as early as Friday...could it conceivably run it rep with the other "Wrong" play at NWS?

The scenery for Pan is significantly different (and larger) than the original PTGW, including a turntable. The show also requires fly space (there are legs and borders framing the smaller sets which fly out when the set changes to Neverland) which I don't believe NWS has.
"

Agree there's no way that they could run it on the same set as the original.

I wouldn't be surprised if they shuffle around some theatres to keep it running though.

Right now that Spanish illusionist El Mago Pop is scheduled to come into the Barrymore for a couple weeks at the end of August, but I see no reason they couldn't put him in the Longacre, Jones, or another likely to be vacated Shubert House. Same goes for Harmony, although that might be a bit tougher because El Mago Pop can slot in between other tenants while Harmony can't. Moving El Mago Pop still buys them some time for an extension.

We all know a Tony win for Best Musical will prolong the life of a show so that will help Kimberly Akimbo (assuming it wins) make it to January at least IMO

A big haul of Tony noms and/or a great Tonys performance along with the dawn of summer can help the box office temporarily so that's why I feel pretty reasonably sure that SLIH, NYNY and Shucked will all make it to the end of the summer.

But Dancin' and Bad Cinderella, that's where I think it's going south quickly. I predict by end of May for Cinderella and by end of June for Dancin.

Really? End of May for BC?

Yep. I stand by that prediction. No insider knowledge, just a guess, so we'll see...

I know that's what history tells us, but I don't think we can say it with authority in this situation. It's been open 6 months already. Strange Loop and Fun Home's Tony love was coinciding with the start of its run when it was also catching the theatre diehards (who have now seen Kimberly, possibly twice, and most likely not at full price). All that to say, I would be surprised if it makes it a year.

I saw KA in October and enjoyed it, although I did think it was slight and don't understand the over-the-moon praise for it (I didn't understand it for Band's Visit and Fun Home either, and I never had any interest in seeing A Strange Loop).

What I can't remember is if there are any musical numbers that are going to help KA on television.  If you think of all the other musicals likely to be performing on Tony night, every one of them has at least one number which is likely to knock it out of the park, unless they pick the wrong number (I am thinking of the recent Carousel revival, which IMO picked about the worst number they could have picked).

I wonder whether residual KA business (if it does win the Tony) will be helped that much, because I believe it will not shine the way other musicals have the potential to do in its 3 - 5 minutes in the spotlight.

Interesting there’s no talk on these boards regarding how Kimberly Akimbo would tour vs. other musicals this year and that being a factor talked about in previous years. Without Victoria, Kimberly will go to regional houses and I cannot see it touring well- even if Victoria did it, she’s not a household name. I think potentially there could be an upset in the best musical category that people should prepare for. I saw it, it’s a cute show, full stop.

I never thought KA had a lock on it, so if it doesn't win I wouldn't think of it as an upset.

I would be very surprised if KA didn't do a number with Bonnie to showcase her vocals. And then it will win.

Was Lea out a few days last week for Funny Girl? Only 83% capacity compared to the usual +90%

chrishuyen said: "Shucked's grosses are still looking pretty rough. Summer 1976 has a surprisingly high average ticket price considering their gross as well (is this a subscription thing?). A Beautiful Noise meanwhile has an okay capacity percentage but pretty good numbers so I guess it's mostly the people who aren't getting discount tickets that are going.

I really did not expect Prima Facie to do as well as it is, like yes it had the buzz from the Oliviers and everything, but so have other shows that have come over, and I didn't think Jodie Comer was a big enough name to garner this much interest.

I think there's a possibility of the Tonys helping Shucked, as it might add an air of "legitimacy" to the show, which people may not take as seriously. Performances on the telecast for Some Like It Hot and Dancin' would probably help, and if Kimberly takes home Best Musical as expected, it'll probably get a nice bump from that. I don't really think there's much that could help Cinderella at this point.
"

Expect it as everybody in NY is talking about Jodi Comer and wanting to see Prima Facie.

This has been my experience as well. Real word of mouth raves followed by "if you can get a ticket, I paid $300 for mine!"

People have raved about things like Kimberly Akimbo too so I just chalked that up as part of the theater insider bubble. Though at least it's not on the level of Sweeney so I still have hope of getting a reasonably priced ticker

I feel like Gentlemen's Guide is a fair comparison though. That opened in Nov 2013 and limped along before the Tony win propelled it to a much longer run.

Gents Guide felt like a much more populist show than Kimberly, imho. It was a crowd-pleasing British-style musical comedy that felt a little like a mashup of Monty Python, Noel Coward, music hall, Lerner & Loewe, and G&S. It also had a much better ad campaign.

(Side note, I remain shocked that it –– like Something Rotten –– has never played the West End)

Maybe... but if that was the case, wouldn't it have been doing better pre-Tonys? If you look back, those grosses were really bad at points - often worse that KA is now and in a larger theatre. It was a show that had dried up its theater loving audience and then found a second life after a big Tony win. It ended up running a year and a half past the Tonys. I'm not sure KA could go that far but I certainly think it could make it to January with a Best Musical win in its pocket

It won’t matter if Kim wins the Tony or not. The show isn’t making enough $$$. Plus, it got the kiss of death when the tour was announced.

I REALLY hope they pick This Time (The act 1 closer) because I think the skating on stage is probably their only big "whoah" moment from a technical perspective.

I think Better (Aunt Debra's intro song) has been considered their big showstopper, but I don't think they'd do something that barely features Kim and Seth.

Well I will give you this.  You're certainly consistent in your predictably negative posts about this show.

MANY show announce tours this time of year - it is indicative of nothing but a way to encourage support.  & Juliet just announced as well.

If we're not having fun, then why are we doing it? These are DISCUSSION boards, not mutual admiration boards. Discussion only occurs when we are willing to hear what others are thinking, regardless of whether it is alignment to our own thoughts.

Correct, but &Juliet more or less has a booking already with Charlotte NC in October 2024

I would think maybe they'll do the wish song - Kimberly's I want song - into Debra's. They don't really need to showcase anyone else.

What nonsense are you spouting off about? How is a tour announcement a "kiss of death"? And of course if will matter if it wins the Tony.

Also don't forget their disdain for Some Like it Hot as well.
