I think Whitney might have had it locked up since, on paper, people weren’t sure what Mantello would do with SALESMAN - turns out he had a vision and BODIED it.
I’m more wringing my hands that Lear will win Direction of a Musical over Zhailon/Bill and my head will explode out of the Radio City balcony"
I think ragtime gets revival and Zhailon/bill get director. I’d be shocked if Lear gets director

They cancelled a performance because there were less than 40 people in the audience.

That some poor soul paid $305 to see Celebrity Autobiography makes me instantly sad. I hope they are okay, like, mentally.

Are these supposed people there in the room with you right now?

Although the Cats directors are my pick, both personally and in terms of prediction, both camps are totally worthy and I'll celebrate the win either way.

Which performance of Celebrity Autobiography was cancelled? How far in advance of showtime were people notified?

You and your mom don't count as a significant sample size for such a statement.

Credit to Just in Time and Jeremy Jordan. Those are very solid numbers, especially average ticket price.
I assumed Maybe Happy Ending would struggle in the wake of Darren Criss’ departure and with attention focused elsewhere. Too early to panic, but this is where reduced tourism may hurt.
All the Best Musical nominees need to win, even The Lost Boys given its higher costs.
The hit plays exist in their own world, and I guess Death of a Salesman will sell out the remainder of its run, probably at higher prices than we are seeing now once it wins awards.
Credit to the producers of Giant, and John Lithgow for presumably taking less money than he could have demanded. The play is showing a little softness at this point, but not much, and it doesn’t matter anyway because the production already recouped.
I asked this before, but does Best Revival of a Musical usually help at the box office? It did plenty for Sunset Blvd. although there wasn’t enough time to take advantage. Cats: The Jellice Ball can use all the help it can get, although I kind of suspect that any boost it gets will probably be short-lived. I liked the revival but it’s probably not for everyone.
What is the situation with Ragtime? It’s been a big success, but at a nonprofit, so I don’t quite understand if recouping is even a thing. How does that work?

Cats will get both. To have that version of CATS you need that direction - otherwise you don't have that production. That production is better than than the production of Ragtime - even if Ragtime is a better show. They both have great casts. The thing Ragtime does not have is good direction.

Just reading through a few threads. Who was Fred Mason in a previous life on here?
Posted: 6/3/26 at 9:19am
So the massive Lost Boys is making about the same as the reigning solo show with a new star. Isn't that in itself a comment on new musicals? Lost Boys is selling tickets, but apparently not enough at the box offices prices.

I said this in a previous thread but I'm going to say it again here (and I'm not anti-ANYTHING, just someone who loves good art and good directing...) I need Michael Arden to go back to step 1 and direct something like a bare three hander play. He needs to go back to the toolbox. Because his scenework is getting eaten up and washed away in these giant spectacles.

Arden made clear in his recent interview that he wants spectacle so I’m not sure that is likely unless producers stop hiring him or do so only on the condition that he spends a lot less. He’s got a long list of projects in the works.

Anyone who thinks the opera is doing well is delusional.

Absolutely. The MET is struggling big time. "Innocence" a great opera was giving away tickets for all of its performances as was "Frida and Diego." Surprisingly, Oneguin with Grigorian did not even sell out one performance. Next year, it will be even worse (showing Turandot, Boheme and Carmen, almost non stop). As it is happening with Broadway, the prices are way too expensive for regular people.

What spectacles? The lame flying in Lost Boys??

Not sure how the thread on the grosses got to this point, but while Arden deserves some credit for saving The Lost Boys from being a complete disaster... it is not possible for me to see him getting a third Tony in the same season he laid that giant Queen of Versailles egg.

He may not be winning for director, but it’s pretty likely he’ll be taking home one for Best Lighting Design as the credited co-designer.
