Great to see MHE break the $900K level and pull ahead of both Cabaret and Harry Potter.
I’m getting a feeling that TasteOfHoney may know MrShowbiz90210 (or whatever)…
Hey, TasteOfHoney, do you have a friend that’s a producer for Boop!?

There is no Canadian lash out against America - I speak to all these tourists - the TV is not reality- 90% of normal people don’t care the least about what CNN tells you people care about - nobody is shaking in their boots over deportations and tariffs , Niobody but devoted political junkies care about any of the things the news is pumping into your psyche, normal people do not care , they want to have fun and do things and not worry about tariffs lol and ICE or whatever fear the TV and The NY Times is pumping out"
I had a pretty long response to this but I will just say...you are out of touch with reality. And interesting that you mentioned CNN and not another news source. (There are many)
And YES, there is a Canadian backlash against the US. (They are not coming here as much and try to buy American made liquor there. A lot of businesses have pulled it from their shelves.) And yes, people are shaking in their boots over tariffs. And yes, people are shaking in their boots over deportations. I see that first hand where I live. Spanish speaking people are not coming to shows that usually sell out here because they are afraid to leave their homes. And I speak to these people on a regular basis. So, I suspect that you don't believe actual citizens in Canada and Europe who say they don't want to vacation here. And NO, not just political junkies care about what we are seeing and reading in the news. And also experiencing. We are people who stay informed so that we can get through whatever we need to. And yes, we like to go out and have fun, but in keeping informed, we can do it responsibly. JMO
You just joined BWW today. That says a lot. Don't forget, a lot of people on these boards work in the theater community also. Myself included for 12 years in NY. We also see the demographics and the numbers. I suspect a lot of people, along with me, do not agree with you on this. JMO

Visitors from abroad can be down and you'd still see a lot of them in NYC. These aren't mutually exclusive.
And a quick Google search will reveal multiple credible sources sharing the year over year numbers are indeed down and/or are projected to be.

The biggest Canadian backlash against the US was electing Carney a week ago. It was vote against Trump. Voting liberals was impossible two months ago but here we are. It took a special kind of moron to piss off Canada.

There was a lot of not-great numbers in the grosses but there were some positives too.
- Just in Time. I guess Jonathan Groff is a genuine Broadway star. The average ticket price is as impressive as the sellouts since it opened. No wonder it extended.
- Buena Vista Social Club. Another strong week. The Tony nominations won’t hurt either, even though I doubt they mattered last week.
- Maybe Happy Ending. It continues the slow grind in the right direction, especially during a bad week. The nominations, and likely Best Musical win, should help it going forward.
I gather that this was one of those in-between weeks, with school in session, that hurt the tourist shows. It’s just a tough year for musicals, even the ones that have done well. Gypsy and Sunset Blvd. have hit a wall that seems typical for high-profile, prestige revivals after a few months. Aside from the successes I mentioned above, and to a lesser extent Death Becomes Her (not sure on running costs), the outlook for the other new musicals seems a bit grim - although Operation Mincemeat is still holding up OK.
I think I agree that the audience for the celebrity-driven plays won’t go to other shows. By and large, it will vanish, especially if it’s a weaker tourist year. That may affect some longer-running shows, or not.

I work at Disney World and our bookings for this summer are abysmal. It does seem like international travel has been very discouraged on top of Americans feeling the economic squeeze and uncertainty.
..
I also see airline sales that are advertising discounts for international flights to New York with winter/spring pricing during summer peak time right now. That can’t be a good thing! We shall see what happens though.
You just need to look at say the Hilton website, mid summer hotels in Manhattan under 200.00 per night. That’s unheard off. It’s going to be brutal.
Just going to Travelocity’s website and looking at hotels over the 4th of July weekend in Times Square, my jaw kind of dropped - i don’t know the last time I’ve ever seen rates that low. So if you’re planning on coming this summer try to snag some of those prices.

Lots of broad generalizations here. What do you know about “normal people”? What do you know about tariffs? I can’t tell if you are a troll, an idiot, or an idiot troll.

They have been on the board under several names. Must have had to wait to create the new name.

As someone that frequents Disney World, it's astounding the deals being offered for this summer. Part is due to the nonsense going on in our government but also part due to Universal's EPIC Adventure just opening, too. I wish I could swing down there with the discounted rooms being offered.
Per the Broadway League’s most recent demographic survey, 2/3s of Broadway attendees are tourists, mostly domestic, an overwhelming majority. Broadway cannot subsist on local attendees- we are simply not a large enough audience.

This is why I laugh when some people from the city on here make fun or try to be condescending about the Bridge & Tunnel folks. It's like we are from another country.

"NYC suburbs reflected 13% of admissions, the LOWEST number in three decades"
Well, you know, let's screw tri state area attendees with congestion pricing, we don't need them! And they won't feel it if they are already paying sky high ticket prices and dinner and tolls and parking!

I take the train in. I look for discounted tickets and have a cheap dinner. There are ways around things if one just looks for them.

Some people can do that and some people can't. You are part of the 13% for whom this works. There are tons of places without easy train access outside of Manhattan. At a certain point it's just not worth it or convenient for many people. The answer is not to make it more expensive and inconvenient for people outside of Manhattan to watch theater.

Exactly. You can always find a discount with a little planning/legwork and the right timing. With NJ Transit being just as expensive as driving in (even counting the CP toll), I always know what time I can get into the city and find free street parking a few blocks from the theatre. Plus, in having my car, I also have the flexibility to leave when I want to, as well as store my merch if I decide to go out after.
Its better than being beholden to NJ Transit delays, overcrowding, and crappy schedules.
But I digress…

It sounds like Metro North is a lot cheaper. I guess I'm fortunate enough that the last train out of Grand Central on Metro North is 1:50AM. I used to always drive into the city but haven't since Covid. I can honestly say I don't miss driving in to the city. It would be a shorter trip if I did but not worth the aggravation.
Just want to comment that the annual "Meet the Tony Nominees" press junket is today, so if the producers of BOOP and/or REAL WOMEN HAVE CURVES choose to go the LEMPICKA route and post a closing notice, they could wait to put out the press release until around 30-60 minutes to places for tonight's performances. (Jasmine and Justina are both nominated for their respective musicals, as Eden E and Amber I were for LEMPICKA.)

Came here to ask how much longer we think they're going to hold out before posting their notices...
