Moulin Rouge nudges The Lion King aside to be the second highest grossing show this week. I have to admit that I didn't realize it was going to be SUCH a hit!

So strange to see only 20 shows on the board.

What week in recent history (past 20 years) has had the least amount of shows on Broadway?

Huge boost for Waitress!! I wonder if Colleen can extend? I know Todrick is going on tour after his stint here.

A Chorus Line revival played its final Broadway performance on August 17, 2008. The tour played its final performance on August 21, 2011. A new non-equity tour started in October 2012 played its final performance on March 23, 2013. Another non-equity tour launched on January 20, 2018. The tour ended its US run in Kansas City and then toured throughout Japan August & September 2018.

I'm very curious to see if Betrayal ends up recouping. The numbers aren't bad at all, and I would bet they are making more than their weekly nut. But it's unclear whether the margin is enough to recoup with such a short run.

On the surface, it seems like a fairly cheap play to run, but I imagine all 3 of the leads are pulling in a hefty salary, plus lodging, etc. Especially Hiddleston.

Congratulations to Waitress! It’s triumph this week will wear off soon, but it’s nice to see it’s new leads have been so popular.

As the Summer tourist season begins to wind down, we will enter the doldrums of autumn, but the focus will fortunately be on openings rather than closings. However, Tootsie is pretty much garaunteed to be gone by the end of the season...

I saw Betrayal Saturday and enjoyed it, but agree that Hiddleston's salary is likely the biggest expense. Calling the set and costumes minimalist is an understatement.

I'll go out on a limb and guess that the cost of transferring to another theatre would far outweigh the benefit gained in doing so.

Could someone who speaks about Tootsie in absolute terms please explain themselves? Or at least what they have said in light of:

1. The fact that the numbers are not that bad, and the show is likely not in the red.

2. The fact that we live in a capitalist economic system.

3. The fact that it is inconceivable that the Nederlanders want the theatre empty, have a new tenant on the horizon, or will not do anything in their power to keep the show running until they have something else ready to move in.

I really don't understand why we have to have this conversation virtually every week about some show.

Wow Waitress!! I’m so happy Colleen is such a draw. Congrats to her. They’ve had decent names in the lead but haven’t seen this big a jump.

Also wow to Moulin Rouge. Huge hit.

I wonder if Colleen could come back after she tours. I think her tour finishes the middle of November so she could come back for the holidays and help close out the show

I feel like quality is irrelevant, but it is true that Tootsie has the lowest attendance % and one of the lowest % of potential figures. It’s done pretty well to get this far (when the box office started to collapse, I made a lot of comparisons to Catch Me If You Can - another deliberately old-fashioned musical which won Best Actor but not Best Musical - but Tootsie will outlast it by a decent margin) but things will probably only get worse during the autumn season. There are a few other big musicals with shaky long-term prospects (Frozen, BeetleJuice and Mean Girls) but all of these are doing considerably better, and they have advantages which could help them stave off the worst of the autumn decline. Even if Santino returns to cause more trouble in Frozen II, it probably won’t provide Tootsie with the promotional push it needs, especially with his Tony Awards momentum an increasingly distant memory.,,

The '3 facts stated' are just that, someones stated opinions.

If they generate a conversation then that means someone has responded

Now if it annoys you that those Facts have had an ongoing life, then that can only mean that someone else has something to say.

I respect that you are peeved but you really are sounding like a cranky old teacher making lists 1/2/3/a/b/c--thank God you stopped at 3 otherwise this whole thread would be all about what annoys you.

"Noel [Coward] and I were in Paris once. Adjoining rooms, of course. One night, I felt mischievous, so I knocked on Noel's door, and he asked, 'Who is it?' I lowered my voice and said 'Hotel detective. Have you got a gentleman in your room?' He answered, 'Just a minute, I'll ask him.'" (Beatrice Lillie)

Tootsie has likely turned a profit each week since it opened and has already returned capital to investors.

They need to do almost double the business they are doing now in order to recoup.
